Emotional Intelligence skills form the foundation for effective response to setbacks and disappointments. Everyone has unmet expectations, disappointments or challenging problems. The way these are handled, coped with and responded to sets the tone for overall success.Resiliency is about making positive, constructive choices. It looks forward from setbacks and disappointments with optimism, hope and renewed tenacity. Without resilience, too many experiences focus on the past with regret and sorrow.
Most people have distinctive personality traits – which is their way of dealing with the world(both inwardly and outwardly). The reality is we need to deal with all differing personality types(just as others need to deal with our personality foibles!). Understanding what causes people tobehave the way they do and having strategies to better influence these people will definitelyhelp make your life easier and more successful.
For most organizations, human resources account for 40-60% of expenses. Aside from the platitudes and self-serving statements about investing in people, the reality is that success depends on getting the highest possible return on this expense. Frequently, optimizing productivity through people is overlooked.
Typically, there is an assertion that professionalism and emotions are separate and inconsistent. For many, there is deep training that feelings don’t belong in the workplace. Cold, calculating reason is what professionalism is about…. Or is it?
Professional athletes recognize the value of coaching. More and more, people are turning to executive and life coaches to facilitate the achievement they desire. Targeted results with quality guided development lead to dramatic results.
Health care takes the relationship between the patient and caregiver seriously. The connection is critical to generating positive outcomes. When care providers attempt to treat illnesses instead of people, they’ve missed their calling. Health care is about treating people (patients). Inherently, this is about communication, compassion, kindness and relationships. Patients look to people they know, like and trust.
The family is the primary unit for developing self-esteem, confidence and healthy emotional perspectives. Children learn by their interactions with parents, observing social interaction of adults, communication and significantly, listening. Feelings are understood at early ages in a general, superficial sense. Good family structures consistently display and reinforce positive interactions. They also focus on the child’s development with positive expressions and sounds.
Change is the one constant in life. Individuals, teams, and organizations experience continuous transformation. Both internal and external environments are continuously in flux. While shifts are inevitable, progress and improvement are optional. Learning, preparation, and management allow for successful development and growth. Feelings and relationships are the catalysts for effectiveness.Transition impacts a wide array of emotions. These are both conscious and subconscious, but all have real impact. Positive emotions facilitate development and progress while the negatives hinder and impede. Obstacles and setbacks make adjustments more stressful and challenging.
Vacations, tourism, amusement parks.guests dream and plan for those fabulous adventures. The best in the hospitality field understand that their guests (not clients or customers) are looking for a quality experience. They want to feel important, valued and special. While it may be just another 'day at the office' for the workers, for the guests, this is the day they've waited for with eager anticipation.
Organizations are recognizing the dramatic costs of bullying as well as the negative impact on the workforce. Increasingly, inappropriate behavior is capturing the attention of the media and the general public. Curtailing this behavior is not only good business, it is the right thing to do.
“Don’t take this personally, it’s just business.” “Leave your personal problems at home.” “We need a higher level of professionalism.” Heard these where you work? There’s an air in many organizations that the workplace has no room for emotions; things should be professional and not personal. It promotes a cold, sterile environment where peak performance is entirely mechanical. Unfortunately, that’s neither where most people work nor where they want to work. It describes a dis-engaged, compartmentalized environment with no feeling. A workplace that does not take feelings into account is ineffective and uninviting.
Listening sets the tone for relationships and emotional connection. It allows empathy and creates interpersonal bonds. Successful people don’t master speaking but rather listening.True listening is more than an auditory process. It takes in all senses especially those involving hearing and observation. As a communication process, it commands about 45% of an executive’s time. Information is key to performance. Listening is the way that information is gathered.People speak at about 125-250 words per minute. Hearing is faster at about 350 to 500 words per minute but processing and analyzing what has been taken in is faster still at 800 to 3000 words per minute. While more than 35% of businesses think listening is a top skill for success, less than 2% of people have had formal education with listening.
Negative thinking provides limitations and constraints. Inner obstacles are far more dominant than real barriers and may be more difficult to deal with. Worry, anxiety and fear limit and inhibit effective performance. Control self-talk and mental images to control the future and set the tone for success (or failure).
Core values, standards, and, ultimately, the impetus for heartfelt leadership lies in self-awareness and the cultivation of a heart that lends itself to the values of servant leadership.
Effective leadership is slowing slipping away into quicksand. The mindset required to lead others extends beyond the typical growth mindset but into a HEARTFELT mindset that requires an awareness of self. A heartfelt mindset stems from emotional intelligence and is the secret weapon for empathy, teamwork, synergy, persuasion, influence, change, agility, coaching, training, creativity, relationships, and so much more. A fixed mindset has the preconceived notion that potential is determined at birth; however, a growth mindset believes potential is unknown. Since neither focus on emotional intelligence (as a whole), the best mindset for leaders is heartfelt. This mindset comprehends that true potential can only result from service and adding value to others. Everything starts in our minds; therefore, it is safe to say that leaders must have the most effective mindset to lead others.“Everything rises and falls on leadership” ~ Dr. John C. Maxwell
Dr. Tracie Hines Lashley introduces herself. She also explains what it means to have a heartfelt mindset when leading others. There will be some information on emotional intelligence. This is a very interesting view of leadership. This episode provides a deep discussion of leading from your heart. We will discuss areas to THRIVE from the heart also.
