As we are confronted with the reality of God's judgment, it is a huge blessing to see that it is not God's final word. He is jealous for his glory and that means that those who are far away are brought near. We his children who scorned him will be redeemed. As Ezekiel enters the valley of dry bones, the contrast is stark with the beautiful image of life and rejuvenation that he has just seen. God tells Ezekiel that he is going to take away his wife, and he commands him not to weep and wail as he mourns but to keep silent. Many would love to come to God for his benefits, but only on their own terms. And this is the desire to have your cake and eat it too. But coming God refuses this option. Ezekiel is using every literary device in the book to try and communicate the atrocities that the people have committed against God.
