Every high performing athlete has a coach. No matter how talented we might be, there is always a benefit to receiving impartial, independent, outside, perspective on how to improve our performance. It’s been said that if you don’t have a coach…get one! That said, it takes a great deal of work and dedication to even begin to hone one’s skills, learn their craft, improve their performance. A great deal of that work has to be done by the individual. Antonia Bowring is a very highly credentialed executive coach. She works with founders, C-Suite executives, and leadership teams. During her career, she’s come to believe that there is a definite need for guidance for people not quite ready to engage a professional coach, for any number of reasons. Seeing that need, she’s authored a book to help fill that need. Coach Yourself!: Increase Awareness, Change Behavior, and Thrive provides keen insight and advice for anyone seeking to improve their performance, whether they currently have a coach or not. Throughout our lives, we are exposed to countless outside influences. Family - in particular our parents. Geography and local culture. Economics and financial status. How we incorporate these experiences into our lives…how we choose to react, behave, engage with others…is up to us. Michael “Tate” Barkley allowed those factors - in particular, his relationship with his father - to lead him down a path of self-destruction, shame, guilt, and regret. But with time, comes experience, perspective, self-reflection, and the opportunity to change and evolve to a greater version of ourselves. Listen as Tate addresses the impact of his life’s challenges, his decisions, and their impact, and how he ultimately was able to overcome them and flourish. As much as we plan, prepare, and work, life will bring unexpected challenges. The question becomes: “What am I willing to do to adjust and adapt?” For Dr. Stephen Stowers, the first insurmountable challenge came when his patient-focused, empathetic approach to his practice was crushed when the “corporate” bottom-line-focus became paramount. Profit became the primary and driving factor with hospitals and big pharma, Dr. Stowers closed his practice and moved to New Zealand, where he learned even more about a patient-first approach to health care. Then, life presented yet another challenge, the good doctor became the patient. Listen as, now retired, Dr. Stowers shares his insights regarding putting patients first, the healthcare industry, and overcoming personal challenges and be sure to grab a copy of his book Box of Birds (link below) Connect with Bill: bill@brandingpillars.com www.brandingpillars.com www.brandingforresults.com IG - @wcellis Facebook - @CoachBillEllis LinkedIn - linkedin.com/in/wcellis Book: Women Who Won Links for This Episode: CONTACT INFO: Email: stephenstowers@me.com SOCIAL MEDIA: Website: https://www.kiwicardiology.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/stephen.stowers1/ BOOK: Box of Birds - https://amzn.to/3R51zxR WEBSITE: The Good Advice Company SOCIAL MEDIA INFO: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/elizabethrosenberg/ Twitter: goodadviceco Quick Episode Summary: Special guest Dr. Stephen Stowers shares about his experience in life and medicine At the age of 68, Stephen developed Parkinson’s disease Stephen shares stories of his childhood and his grandfather Stephen talks about how his grandfather inspired him to get into medicine Stephen opens up on being doubted and having to work hard to achieve his dreams Stephen breaks down the years of schooling that it takes to become a cardiologist How to get placed into a practice after finishing medical school Stephen talks about the spiritual aspect of medicine and how it gets lost today Stephen shares about his time living in New Zealand How the medical field has become a profit driven corporation New Zealand was focused on preventive health care and not profit driven Stephen talks about his book, “Box of Birds” and what inspired the title New Zealand’s emphasis on preventive care produces better outcomes Stephen shares his answer to “what’s the point?”
