We're now on YouTube! Go and watch clips from this episode on the Styled By Society YouTube channel. This week we shared our experiences in the music industry, spoke about manifesting our wildest dreams, the toxic side of social media and what it really means for if we have a Plan B.
I had the most amazing discussion with Molly, the brains behind Rebel Riot Records and the unique disco/funk sounds of her own music...Le Freekz! She gave me so much advice about being in a band, collaborating, confidence and how music has become more organic since lockdown.
This week we spoke all about the sometimes unfair and unjust scrutiny of women in the music industry, from Dua Lipa to Billie Eilish. We also discussed our take on Carbi and Megan Thee Stallion's WAP song and video, and why we think it rubs people the wrong way.
In this weeks episode I sit down with Oriana Jade (host of Who You Know) and Naomi Gilles who both work within talent and music at MTV, London. We talk about about the realities of working within the music industry, working with artists and working on the annual MTV EMAs show. We also discuss cancel culture, sharing our different opinions on the for, against and on the fence point of view. As well as how cancel culture is impacting the music industry.
This week I sat down with Sascha Driver, the digital content creator for Hits Radio, to discuss gender and race diversity within the music industry. We spoke about controversies surrounding award shows and the word 'urban', and the lack of female music producers, artists and executives. We also explained why it is essential for creative industries, especially the music industry, to be diverse and inclusive to collaborate and make art that crosses boundaries.
This is a part two of the gurls talk podcast episode. We will be talking all about how to be confident, how to start your own business using social media and how to find your passion in life. We even got to hear about Emilie's scary/kind of funny catcalling experience in London. Download or stream to hear more!
Four university friends debate the definition of feminism, plus discuss female empowerment, how to feel more confident and how to manage your relationship with social media. We also break down some psychological concepts and discuss times when we've experienced the 'Queen Bee Syndrome' and the 'Power Dead-Even Rule'. Listen to part two for more!
In this weeks episode I spoke to Armand Tshela who, in 2019, started a new clothing brand called Winners Circle. He spoke honestly about the ups and downs of the brands growth, and the important lessons he has learnt about design and down periods along the way. We also discussed the importance of a diverse fashion industry, and why people should follow the art (as opposed to the culture) of fashion.
In this weeks episode I had an enlightening conversation with Sophie Anderson. Sophie merges her passion for the topic of body image, and fashion, to spread messages of body acceptance across her social media platforms. We opened up about our own raw experiences, and got curious on topics including diet and fitness culture, why we fixate on body image, and we also offered some advice on what to do when you're having a 'fat day'.
In the first ever episode of the SBS podcast, I will be interviewing Rosie Crawford, a YouTube sensation in the world of 'Studytube'. We'll be discussing the positives and negatives of being a Youtuber, as well as spilling the tea on how YouTube can sometimes be a toxic platform.
