Most of us experience “splitting energy” on a regular basis.  We are feeling good about something one moment and then in the next moment we think about that same thing in a negative way.  This is called splitting energy.  Today we talk about this and how to slow down this process.  It may never go away completely, but we can use our awareness to help bring our thoughts back to what feels best.  We really enjoyed recording this episode. This isn’t the first or last time we will talk about how our ability to be emotionally aware impacts our children’s ability to be aware of their own emotions.  Children that are able to do this have greater parent-reported cooperation, assertion, social competence, and better social behaviors. Social media is constantly evolving and we as a society are spending more and more time with social media. As the third podcast in a three part series we finish up with the relationship with our kids. Cultivating relationships starts with you!  One of the most important elements of this is groundedness, the ability to be in touch with your emotions.  Groundedness helps a person from getting lost in past stories, beliefs and experiences.  It allows someone to carry into the next experience from a place of awareness of the body, emotions, how we think and how we respond. We spend one third of our lives at work.  Because of this, it is important that we learn how to apply the tools that can allow us to be emotionally aware at work throughout the day. As we have mentioned in beginning episodes, practicing meditation is a way in which to become more mindful.  Mindfulness allows us to pay attention, in the present moment in a more objective manner.  It is key to decreasing rumination about work (i.e,. worry about the past or future) and to productivity because we are better able to pay attention to our work tasks.  Mindfulness is also a resource for better management of screen fatigue, considering we all spend too much time in front of a screen.
