Seasonal travel destinations are considered seasonal for a reason. Historically, an overwhelming majority of the area's tourists and part-time residents visit during a particular season. A Colorado ski town's prime season might be Winter. A popular beach town might boom during Summer. Often the popular season revolves around weather. And sometimes the off-season means that most, if not all, of the town's businesses are closed. The shoulder seasons occur between the off-season and the prime season. These in-between seasons occur in late Spring and early Fall in Northern Michigan (the top of the mitten... just south of the Upper Peninsula). So what is it like visiting a traditionally seasonal destination during a shoulder season? Were we crazy to visit Northern Michigan in early May?? A lot of RVers (ourselves included) are attracted to RVing, at least in part, because they want to visit the US National Parks. Over the past several years, we've visited several major National Parks as well as US National Monuments, National Wildlife Refuges, National Seashores, National Recreation Areas and National Historic Sites. Sometimes we've camped inside the national park and other times we've stayed at an RV park or campground outside of the national park. In this episode, we discuss what you should consider before showing up to RV camp in a US National Park, the benefits of camping inside the park and the benefits of staying outside of the park (yes, there are pluses and minuses to each). We also share some tips and resources that we use to help us make the decision on whether or not to RV camp inside a national park and how we choose a campsite that will fit our Class A motorhome and our needs. If you'd like to watch some of our National Park experiences (including our campsites), check out our National Parks Video Playlist! (We've embedded 3 of these videos in this episode's show notes... we camped inside Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area and Dinosaur National Monument and outside of Rocky Mountain National Park.) RVing With Pets

RVing With Pets

2023-04-1536:53

One of the things we love most about RVing is that we can bring our pets along for the fun. We love having our dog (Star) and our cat (Astro) with us as we travel. But as much as we love them, traveling with pets brings along a unique set of challenges. We've been RVing with our fur babies (both cats and dogs) for more than 10 years now. We've learned a lot along the way. So this episode is all about RVing with pets: pet health and safety, getting pets used to traveling, and where we keep the litter box! Expect the Unexpected

Expect the Unexpected

2023-03-0429:02

In the last episode, we talked about how we plan our RV travels. But no matter how much you plan and how perfect the trip looks on paper, sometimes things can and do go wrong. So today we're talking about something that RVing has taught us: Over the years, we've learned to expect the unexpected! Like we mention this week, we've experienced the trifecta of issues that most RVers fear the most... As a homeschool mom, our favorite year of homeschooling was the year we spent studying Texas history and traveling to several museums and historically significant sites in Texas. I so enjoyed your story of the history of the state park system of Texas. One of my favorite things about so many of our state parks is the CCC structures and seeing the unique architecture and building materials so I have really enjoyed your video reviews of these State parks!!
