In the first of two House of the Dragon Season 2 wrap-up episodes, LittleWolfBIrd is able to (finally!) sit down and chat with the delightful Felix of House O'Kelly. Felix is a sharp minded fan from London and ever understanding about #DaeronWatch and #Timeline and #TravelTimes because of his fascinations with Family Trees, especially that of the Estermonts. Together, LittleWolfBird and Felix talk about the general changes and consequences of the season as a whole, the magic and Gothic nature of Harrenhal, the specifics of the Finale, and The Now-Imfamous NotABlog Post from George.

At long last, you High Heretics have put together their thoughts and feelings about the finale of House of the Dragon Season 2. But they are not alone. Joining them for the first time as a guest and potentially not the last because she might become the third member of the Silent Sisters, is Dr. Kavita Mudon Finn. A third member!? Yes! Blue_Lemons and LittleWolfBird have decided that adding a third person to the writing team - a Ghostwriter if you will - will probably help ease along the hardest part of podcasting. That is, scripting. But not to keep them fully in the shadows, our Ghostwriter will co-host whenever they want to. And so we're trialing Dr. Kavita and she us. So far it's off to a good start, learning new words like "Plantagenot" or how to defend fanfiction by invoking the Doctrine of Varient Texts.
We three Heretics dive into Alicent's arc this season and how her actions in the finale make sense. Dr. Kavita poses an addendum to the Maester's Conspiracy Theory and asks the big questions about the King's Guard while LittleWolfBird gets hung up on on travel times again. We dive into Helaena and her prophecies once again and whether or not Daemon recognized her as his niece...and that's about as in depth into Daemon's vision as we get. Rhaenyra's rise as a messaionic figure has been a long time coming and the events of this season continue to cement in her mind that she is making the right decisions, thus propelling her to do more and go bigger. What ever could that lead to?! And, as we seem to be want to do this season, we dive again into a discussion about Class Warfare and the dynamics between characters that will inevitibly lead to literal class war.

This time on the Silent Sisters', covering the penultimate episode of the season "The Red Sowing", LIttleWolfBird and Blue_Lemons are joined by returning guest and lovable devil's advocate, Pat Sponaugle, and first timer and drink-mixer extraordinair, Sean Pink! In a shocking and unplanned start to the episode, Pat and Sean stage a coup, take over the show, and drive your High Heretics headfirst into a Criston Cole discussion. We learn that it's all Otto's fault, oh and did you know he was a feminist? Alicent takes a much needed vacation to the Kingswood with one of the last remaining King's Guar knights and we all want to join her. Aemond dismisses Aegon's bff's, sending them to the wall while Larys and Jasper consult each other on whether to give the Prince Consort some perhaps dubiously sourced and potentially unreliable information. Sean blows our minds about Larys encouraging Maester Orwyle in gaming the system plus, perhaps Targaryan's have magical healing powers, question mark? LittleWolfBird once again goes on to question Addam's parantage based on Corlys' behavior this episode however, she concedes that it doesn't have to be Laenor and everyone agrees: this dragon claiming plan wasn't well ... well planned. Pat teaches us how claiming a dragon is not unlike coming upon a bear in the woods and Sean declares that Targaryan's have steaks in their pockets. And LWB concludes the episode with a lesson on the timeline...again.

With a last minute guest change, Steven Stark once again but probably not for the last time, joins The Silent Sisters' Blue_Lemons and LittleWolfBird to break down House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 6 "Smallfolk." We go for the most part scene by scene, diving into topics such as how much lions eat and therefore how much dragons eat, the final nail in Alicent's coffin of lost power, Aemond's full debut as Regent, Aegon's terror, Daemon finally Asking Alys, at last some great PR on the Blacks' part thanks to Mysaria, Sandor and Sansa (although not at the same time, sad face), Schrödinger's Nettles, and of course Daeron and this fucked up timeline!
Oh, and go see Steven if you think this episode was filler. Spoiler: it wasn't.

The Silent Sisters are finally old enough in episodes to rent a car! Happy 25th Episode to us!
We celebrated by bringing on one of our newer fandom friends to guest host with us, and boy did Ser Baelor Swyft aka TheRealEthanJoseph deliver! In this fun episode covering HotD S2E5 "Regent", LIttleWolfBird, Blue_Lemons, and Ethan dive into three major topics of this episode.
1. How this show is covering the different ways to fight a war: contrasting Daemon and Willem vs. Rhaenyra and Mysaria and the Dance commanders vs. the WOTFK commanders (yes, and we learn how to say WOTFK), and the how the use, or lack there of, of dragons changes everything...or does it?
2. Would we really be the Silent Sisters if we didn't talk about Helaena at all?
3. We discuss the loss of power for Rhaenyra, Jace, and Alicent.
Plus, for funsies, we talk about Aegon, Criston Cole, and just how messed up this show timeline is. And we wrap up the show by talking about this fun article Ethan introduced to us from The Ringer by Jodi Walker.

If last week we had a whole new podcast, this week we have gone through a transformation and turned The Silent Sisters' into a D&D podcast!
Just kidding! Though it almost did.
Absent LittleWolfBird - who took a mental health day - Blue_Lemons and returning guest DM Steven Stark of Here Be Dragons! dive into House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4 "The Red Dragon and the Gold" to discuss Dungeons & Dragons, power dynamics, and effective rulers; determining that good rulers must be decisive and be open to questioning.
We've come to the conclusion - yet again - that Alicent (and Viserys!) are (were) shit parents and that Rhaenys is a boss ass bitch who should have been the Queen. Daemon be tripping, the writers make us feel for Aegon when we don't necessarily want to, Ser Willem Blackwood is awesome, Rhaenyra probably should have told someone where she was going last episode - just like Cole should have told someone about his ambush plan this episode (though we understand the need for secrecy at times), Alys Rivers ('nuff said), and we really want to know what Lord Larys Strong's motivations are because Power For Power's Sake in a character is, however realistic in our world, not very exciting in literature.

It's (not) a new podcast! Therefore, a great big welcome back to our dearest friend of the podcast, Lo the Lynx, who is also joined by our newest friend, Virginie! Be sure to check out their podcast, Ragman's Harbour. (Get it? Silent Sisters? Ragman's Harbour? We think we're funny.)
In this episode, we take a look at Rhaenyra and Alicent's last-ditch effort to broker a peace deal through the lens of gender studies. Is the show being a little too simplistic and gender essentialist when it comes to who wants war and who wants peace? Our guests break it down for us. Then we deep dive into a very haunted Daemon's weirwood dream, where dreams, magic, and reality seem to blur together. And what's eating Daemon and Ser Criston Cole? Could it be actual guilt for respectively earning their lady love's displeasure? Things aren't going so well in the Green's camp, with Aegon ascending his drinking buddies to the King's Guard, Larys Strong ingratiating himself to the king, and Aemond losing his one safe space to be vulnerable. Finally, we turn our attention to Baela, Helaena, and Rhaena. One experiences the thrill of helping the war effort on dragonback, the other processes the death of her child, and the last is entrusted with safeguarding the youngest of Rhaenyra's children.

The episode of the numbers 2.
Picking up where they left off in the last recording, and after seeing this episode's runtime and understanding why this is a two-parter, Akash and LittleWolfBird delve deeper into the propoganda of House of the Dragon S2E2 and tie ideas back to other well known media including Lord of the Rings 3 - The Return of the King, and the original A Song of Ice and Fire books, as well as the other show Game of Thrones. We agree that if Rhaenyra had sent out a PR campaign against Aemmond after Luke's death, that Otto and the Green's slander would not be as successful; really if she had just hired Mysaria sooner... Whatever last bits of reservations we had in idtentifying Helaena as autistic have been put to bed and, yes we do talk about the Roman Empire and compare Helaena to Octavia. Akash goes on further about the Roman Empire to discuss the the rise of Nationalism and the End of Empires, Machiavelli, and how the Dance of the Dragons is really the beginning of the Decay of Targaryan dynasty.
Oh, and we're all just Bakers.

An exciting TV episode deserves an exciting analysis, and, with enormous help from returning guest Akash, The Silent Sisters certainly deliver in this two-part episode covering House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 2 "Rhaenyra the Cruel". We explore the episode through an in-depth summary that led to many unplanned discussions before looking at Alicent and Otto's relationship, the Hightower family emotions (or lack there of), and the perception of power.

Let's be clear: We do not condone murder in general, but especially child murder. But spectacles? well. . .
In this episode we look at and probably over analyze the first episode of House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 1 "A Song for a Son". Joining us in the first of this eight week endeavor is our friend Zach of the North. We discuss sex, murder, grief and preemptive villianification, and the Small Folk, with fun asides thrown in there to keep things lively. We establish the rule of thumb to help you remember which King's Guard Twin is which and who they support. Ser Erik "With An E" supports RhaenEEra while Ser Arik "With an A" supports AAAAAAAlicent. And thought we already knew it, we emphasize again that Daemon is not a great guy.
Also, Fuck the Patriarchy.

Looking forwards into 2024, we the Silent Sisters decided to look back at the year of 2023 for us. In this episode, we use the discussion of topics like technology, fanfiction, books, movies, TV shows, and more, to warm up for future episodes coming down the pipeline. At the same time, we took the opportunity to explore new soft- and hardware for recording. As a result, the audio quality is not up to our usual standards but we learned a lot and are ready to move forward.

Happy holidays, dear novices! The Sisters are taking some much needed chilltime for a very indulgent episode of one of our favorite ASOIAF topics: how amazing is Sansa Stark!?! Join us as we break down Sansa VI, AGOT, and her rising from the ashes of her father's execution and the completion of her book one arc. Of course, we couldn't forget about Sandor Clegane and the formation of an unlikely allyship in the face of abuse. His advice as a fellow survivor of IPV is important, but its listening to her own inner voice is a true moment of personal triumph over the king and his lackeys. And just one person showing they care in our darkest moments sometimes is all it takes to keep us from going over the edge.

It's been 85 days since we at the Silent Sisters began their spontaneous coverage of House of the Dragon. In those 12 weeks, we have released 12 episodes and woo! it has been a feat. But our coverage doesn't end there. This week we are joined by fandom creative and staple of the cosplay community, Meghan of Birdie Dee Costumes! In this all-encompasing Season 1 wrap-up episode, we talk about each end of the spectrum in a variety of categories such as but not limited to Characters and Moments. We also dove into, not for the first time and not for the last time either, sexual violence in the House of the Dragon and how Season One has held up to Producer and Writer Sara Hess' claim that they do not show sexual violence. However, considering who our guest is, how could we not talk about the costumes for House of the Dragon!? We dive in to themes, the best dresses, and even the controversies surrounding these stunning garmets. Links to referenced in the show: Harper's Bazaar Interview with Jany Temime. Links to photos for comparisons only. We are not endorsing any business. Alicent's Green Dress vs Bernadette Banner's Dress. Banner's video making the dress. Rhaenyra's Hunting Coat vs The Armstreet "Red Riding Hood" Coat. Daemon's Tunic vs This Popular LARP Tunic (Please, DO NOT BUY from this link. How did we get to the end so fast? "The Black Queen" has finally arrived, and to help us ring in the season finale, we have our dear friend, Steven Stark, founder of the Here Be Dragons youtube channel and slack community. Join us as we discuss the audience as Mushroom, the fool court chronicler of Fire & Blood, and House Velaryon as the "swing house" and deciding factor in the black's response to Aegon's ascension. One thing is for sure, Princess Rhaenys was the key player in so many instances that we dubbed her "The Queenmaker" this episode. Rhaenyra has been crowned, men have sworn fealty to her, but that doesn't make the patriarchy magically disappear in her camp. It's a rough first 24 hours on the job for Rhaenyra, starting with grief over the deaths of her father and daughter, but also a tug-o-war for power with her Queen Consort. Clearly, Daemon had expectations of being the real shot caller behind the throne, which unfortunately leads to domestic violence. Finally, we get into the climactic horror of Arrax vs Vhaegar, how it happened, the theme of revenge and instant regret. Yep, Aemond really shit the bed this time, because he just unleashed The Black Queen. All this and more with Steven Stark as we unpack the harrowing finale to an amazing season of top tier television!

While LittleWolfBird lurks in the background, Blue Lemons holds down the fort as she, Lo the Lynx, and Akash discuss the Larys and Alicent foot scene from a sexual assault, disability, and shame persepective; Mysaria running for president in 2024, the return of the Shadow on the Wall, and her accent; and Alicent's pawn to player jouney via specific scenes including those with Rhaenys and Otto.

As our title suggests, we the Silent Sisters and their guest, artist Fox and Brambles, focus on four main parties: Rhaenys, the queen who never was, Alicent, the queen of Westeros, Viserys, the king of Westeros, and Daemon, the former and temporary king of the narrow sea. Beware, it is a heavy episode where we discuss losing loved ones in light of losing Viserys and we also examine Alicent's reactions to Prince Aegon raping a serving girl.

Well, we went from a family reunion for a funeral, to grand theft dragon (or not?), to a pint-size street fight where knife beats rock. Joining us to help us sort out this royal shitstorm is a good friend and fabulous fan fiction writer, Kitfics! This episode was largely about how many of the child characters are left alone to grieve the loss of a parent, some are only allowed to do so in silence. Likewise, we see the troubling behaviors and personalities developing between young Aegon and Aemond. Bad blood has already infected the next generation, which culminates in escalating violence until Aemond is permanently injured. All of what we see going on with the children makes sense when we parse out the parenting styles. Unfortunately, Alicent and Rhaenyra seem to be repeating lessons they learned in childhood from their fathers with their own children. We also examine Laenor's worsening melancholy and the need for Rhaenyra and Laenor to break the polycule to keep their vows to support each other. In a fun and wildly speculative segment, Blue goes full tinfoil hat about Alicent, which is precisely what happens when you let three fan fic writers run amok on a podcast.

As promised, we are back with a second helping of everyone's favorite fandom commentator, essayist, and dad expert, Patrick Sponaugle! Episode 6 was just so HUGE (Ryan Condal called it a second pilot) we had to break the discussion into 2 parts. This time we're back to finish off by focusing on the parents. The Dad Duo of Laenor and Harwin scored major points with the three of us. We talk about Laena and Daemon's marriage, what her fate says about their relationship and Daemon's parenting style. Alicent, feeling alone and at a disadvantage, resorts to some low blows against Rhaenyra and Laenor. As appalling as that was, it was also exciting to see two powerful women debating policy and "peace" in the highest halls of power in Westeros. A detail noticed in this episode led to much speculation on its possible ripple effects for the main cast: the promotion of Orwyle to Grand Maester. We revisit an earlier discussion of a House Strong theory that was shared by Micah of Clark in podcast episode 7, and Larys Strong's shocking reveal left us terrified for Alicent -- and scrubbing our minds with bleach! For a much needed palate cleanser, we had to do some gushing over our newest ship, the S.S. Rhaewin! (which has nothing to do with Sansan at all).

In an extraordinary first, the recording time of our coverage of House of the Dragon Episode 6 "The Princess and the Queen" ran so long, the only thing we could do was bring you a two-parter! And why was it busting at the seams with content discussion? This week's special guest Pat Sponaugle, everyone's favorite fandom dad, essayist, and commentator, made it wayyyyyyyyyyy too easy to get carried away! Big questions were asked and answered, even ones holding over from episode 5. Did Criston Cole murder Joffrey impulsively on perhaps a misunderstanding of Joffrey's intentions? Or was it far more calculated and intentially cruel than we initially realized? The ten year time jump is disected and critisized many times. Was it too much time to skip? Was it the right time to do the skip? Was there too much or not enough in this episode? No matter what, it is agreed apon that the cast, the crew, and the creators did a phenomenal job. Even after discussing ALL EIGHT children introduced this episode, there was still so much left that we wanted to talk about, so Pat graciously agreed to return to give us one more hour of hilarity and witty analysis. That will be coming up soon in part two. Bonus cameo appearance by Lisa Sponaugle and Chi-Chi the pug!
