Conversations about diversity, equity and inclusion seem to be a more frequent and familiar part of both our business and general culture. But how are actual changes and improvements in individual and group behavior going to be made? My special guest, Christina Blacken has made a career for herself of looking at this very important question and chose a tool to do her work that is called Narrative Intelligence. In the episode, Christina teaches us all about Narrative Intelligence, her own childhood and childhood surroundings which sharpened her knowledge for story, and how stories influence people's thoughts and behavior. You will gain insight on how Christina expertly trains other people to be more aware of the stories that have influenced them, the cultures and policies they operate in, and to be more conscious about how they use their own personal influence.Christina Blacken is a public speaker, performer, and founder of The New Quo. The New Quo is a leadership development and equity consultancy, helping leaders create equitable practices, habits, and goals through their narrative intelligence. She helps leaders identify the psychological impact of historical, cultural, and personal narratives on beliefs, bias, and behaviors to improve their bias recognition, as well as providing them with leadership tools to create more inclusive and equitable communication, goal setting, decision making, and relationship building skills. Timestamps:• [6:50] “So many of the things I've created in my life have always started from a pain point or a block or a barrier…”• [8:32] Christina shares how and why she discovered that story was a big part of how people were ingesting different cultures and identities that they maybe never interacted with before.• [11:12] Christina shares an example of “wholesale buying” of stories that influence and impact… “When there's discussions around beauty and professionalism, that straight hair is the norm. And if you don't have straight hair, you're not professional, you're not as attractive. • [16:03] Christina explains narrative intelligence as “the ability to recognize the patterns, and the narrative tropes that are internalized within you when it comes to societal or cultural stories, and how those then affect your behavior, your thinking, your biases, and shifting them appropriately if they're in the way of your full potential because there are stories we can ingest…”For more information on the Make Time for Success podcast, visit: https://www.maketimeforsuccesspodcast.comConnect with Us!Dr. Christine Li -Website: https://www.procrastinationcoach.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/procrastinationcoachInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/procrastinationcoach/To work with Dr. Li on a weekly basis in her coaching and accountability program, please register for The Success Lab here: https://www.procrastinationcoach.com/labChristina Blacken -Website: https://www.thenewquo.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/christinablacken/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/christinablackenthe white paper! https://bitly.com/newquopaper

In this episode, I am sharing six great tricks that you can rely on to develop a smoother way of working and to keep overwhelm at bay. Are you striving for success, but not getting the results you've been hoping for? My special guest, Kerri Altom, has developed a great strategy and technique for getting to the root of what might be getting in your way. In this episode, you're going to hear how Kerri's work with leaders of all different varieties helped her realize that too often leaders skip the critical step of getting clear on their values, priorities and purpose. Our conversation covers the questions we need to ask ourselves to get really clear about what is important to us and what defines our sense of integrity. By the end of the episode, you will understand why integrity is something that can really anchor your work and lead you straight to the results that you want.Kerri Altom is an award winning writer, educator and entrepreneur.  As an integrity instigator, Kerri shows you how to define your values and align your life.  With her signature framework, The RISE Way, she is transforming struggling entrepreneurs into impact-making profit-taking leaders of a brighter world. Kerri is also a business coach, leadership consultant and the founder and CEO of RISE Media GroupTimestamps: • [4:47] “After decades of doing that kind of work and working with a range of different kinds of leaders, I came to see these common patterns and these common struggles…” • [8:07] “Somebody who has identified who they are, what they believe in what their core values are. And they can convey that in a way that people can relate to. It builds trust, and it builds a sense of authority.” • [12:48] Kerri speaks of doing values exercises and visioning to go deeper into explaining who you are and what you believe in.  • [19:52] Kerri gives us a great gardening analogy about perfectionism and the fear based stories we tell ourselves, then shares how to really get to the root of the problem… not just plucking at the surface level. For more information on the Make Time for Success podcast, visit: https://www.maketimeforsuccesspodcast.comConnect with Us!Dr. Christine Li - Website: https://www.procrastinationcoach.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/procrastinationcoachInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/procrastinationcoach/To work with Dr. Li on a weekly basis in her coaching and accountability program, please register for The Success Lab here: https://www.procrastinationcoach.com/labKerri Altom - Website: https://www.theriseway.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kerri.altom.35LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kerri-altom-47563712a/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kerri_altom/Download the exercise that will help you identify one of the stories that isn't serving you and go through the process of identifying the alternative value that you want to be aligned with and rewrite that story: https://www.theriseway.com/opt-in

In this episode, I was a guest on The Purpose Filter podcast and interviewed by Dr. Kathy Zhang who asked me the most wonderfully deep and meaningful questions about procrastination. She even wove in a discussion about how she herself is a procrastinator. You probably think you've heard it all when it comes to procrastination, but Dr. Zhang and I took that conversation so much deeper. We not only unpack why people push off projects until the very end, but also explore the mindset, unconscious habits, identity and behaviors of a chronic procrastinator. We discussed the primary reasons why people procrastinate and how procrastination manifests as a consequence of mental clutter, fog or underlying anxiety.  And I share how a strong sense of self can help "S.M.A.C.K." the procrastination habits that are keeping us from living our best lives. If you've ever pushed something off to the last minute or thought "hmm, I can finish that tomorrow", then you've landed on the right episode!Dr. Luyi Kathy Zhang, is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at New York University, and the host of the Purpose Filter Podcast, where she shares stories and insights in inspiring interviews to help people transform their lives from the inside out. Her mission is to bring the clarity, purpose and meaning that comes with confronting our mortality to those fortunate enough not to have to…because everyone deserves to live the life they want, with the time they have left.Timestamps:• [3:50] I explain how I became a Procrastination Coach…• [5:57] Dr. Zhang wants to know the deeper meaning of procrastination… beyond putting something off or delaying it. • [14:38] I explain the S.M.A.C.K. technique which helped me set the stage for my own better functioning as a procrastinator…• [23:11] Dr. Zhang says “I see it in myself, putting things off because I want it to be as perfect as possible because I don't want others to judge me, or feel ashamed of my performance.”For more information on the Make Time for Success podcast, visit:https://www.maketimeforsuccesspodcast.comConnect with Us!Dr. Christine Li -Website: https://www.procrastinationcoach.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/procrastinationcoachInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/procrastinationcoach/Dr.  Kathy Zhang - Website: http://purposefilter.com/The Purpose Filter Podcast Episode: New Year, Purposeful YOU Part 2: Conquer Procrastination, Create Better Habits and Regain Control Over Your Precious Time with Dr. Christine Li: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/new-year-purposeful-you-part-2-conquer-procrastination/id1579203704?i=1000547670652Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/purposefilter/
