People are going to have opinions about us.About who we are.About what we're doing.About what they think and feel about that. And in our career or business, this can become a distraction.Certainly we need to present ourselves to our stakeholders and communities in a way that isn't off-putting or offensive. In a way that is sensitive to others. But if we're not careful, we can become too fixated on what other people think about us.And when we do that, it holds us back.It keeps us from putting ourselves out there. It keep us from speaking up in the meeting. It keep us from saying what we really think or from doing what we really want to do.And here's the real truth of it. When we modify our behavior to try to influence how or what people think of us, it never works.People are going to have their opinions no matter what.So my advice is to shift your focus from other people's opinions to yourself. On what you think. On what you want to do.And go do that.Let other people think what they will.Let them be wrong (or right) about you.And let it not matter which way it goes. That's what we're talking on the podcast. Give the episode a listen. Sometimes people don't make sense. They can commit to something and then not follow through. They can say they want one thing and then do something completely opposite.I think we're all guilty of this at times. It's about our human brain and the reality of what happens if it goes unmanaged.Sometimes we'll do things that don't make sense.Which means the other people in that scenario are left trying to figure it out.And it can be confounding. This is something that can happen in any part of our life.In the business we run.In our corporate life.Or in our relationships. So on today's episode, we're talking about what to do if you find yourself in a place where other people aren't following through in some way with something you agreed to do.And how to avoid getting stuck in an unhelpful dynamic where you're trying to control or negotiate or influence the other person into "seeing the light" or changing their behavior.Because that never works. We all know this intellectually, but I know from very painful, personal experience that it's very easy to forget. So today I'm sharing six steps to follow when you find yourself in a situation like that so you can get unstuck and moving forward again. This will help with any situations in your career or your life.Give the episode a listen. I recently lost both of my parents within a matter of months. This happened after nearly a year where I (and my siblings) provided long-term care to my parents.Which required me to be halfway across the country one week of each month.Which started just after I began a new job. In a new Industry. In a hybrid work situation, requiring me to be in the office 3 days a week.Which  was happening while I was also trying to grow a business. It was a lot.We can all find ourselves in times like this. Where it's like one thing happens, then another, then another.Until it all feels like too much.So today, I'm sharing the six things I did to manage through that crisis with my parents. It will work no matter what you're dealing with.A job loss.An illness.A death. These are six powerful ways to take back control over the emotions that pile up during times like this. So you can show up in those times in the way you want to.And do that in the healthiest, most powerful and productive way you can.Give it a listen. And then share it with a friend who might be struggling.   If you're looking to move your career or life forward, join us in Next Level, my monthly membership where we deal with mindset mastery and action planning. There are five types of Imposter Syndrome. This is important to know because the first part of changing your Impostor ways is recognizing when it's happening. So today we're building off last week's episode and we're exploring the different ways it can show up.You might experience it one way. Or (like me) you might experience many (or even all).Bottom line, you need to know the way it shows up for you so you can recognize it and shift it.And lastly we discuss the six-part Impostor Cycle. Because that's what it is. A recurring pattern of thinking, feeling and acting that starts with a trigger (typically something new that raises your profile a bit). This is important work. And while my coaching practice and the CBT-based method I teach are the ultimate long-term fix for this recurring cycle, in this episode I share some very helpful 'short term fixes' that you can put into practice today.Give the episode a listen. And then (please) share it with a friend you think might be experiencing this.Impostor Syndrome will steal your joy and suck all the life out of your self-belief and your relationships. It's my mission to help alleviate this faulty thinking pattern from the planet.Give it a listen. And join us next week for the webinar, where we'll go a little deeper.   If you're looking to move your career or life forward, join us in Next Level, my monthly membership where we deal with mindset mastery and action planning. According to statistics more than 80% of us experience Impostor Syndrome. And for women that number is upwards of 90%.It disproportionately affects high achievers. Given the fact that it's something most of us will contend with to some extent, I wanted to explore it.So, on today's episode we're discussing what Impostor Syndrome is, where it comes from, how it shows up and how it impacts us.I know from personal experience the very real effect it can have on our life, our achievements and our wellbeing as I struggled with it for most of my career. And it wasn't until the past five years that I really learned how to quiet the voice of that inner critic. So join me on today's episode to learn a bit more about it and what you can do about it.Give the episode a listen. When we're just starting our career, we can look at the leaders around us and fantasize about what it will be like when we have what they have. The big title. The big salary. The big team.We think it's going to be amazing. We think our career (and our life) will have all this meaning because we'll have accomplished what we set out to do.But the truth is by the time most of us get there, the reality of living that achievement is quite different from the fantasy. And while we might have many of the trapping of success, we can find ourselves living a life without much meaning. When this happens it's important to understand *why* we feel this way. What is getting in the way of feeling proud, fulfilled and amazing. So on today's episode, we're talking about four of the ways our perspective about things gets in the way of feeling great about our career or life. And most importantly, what you can do about it.Give it a listen. Today is Super Bowl Sunday in the U.S. and in honor of my Chiefs being in the Super Bowl (woo hoo!), I wanted to share a concept that I borrowed from the NFL. This is the way I think of my own career and the way I advise my clients, friends and team members to do.  It's about thinking of yourself as a Free Agent. In the NFL that means being free to solicit offers from or sign with other NFL teams. And the reason thinking that way benefits you in your own career is a Free Agent has some very special ways of being:- They go all in to have their best year ever (so they can command the highest price in the open market)- They keep themselves in peak condition (the analogy for you is keeping your skills sharp)- They're always exploring the possibilities in the marketBasically, they're taking 100% control of their career. They know they're the agent, the manager and the marquee talent and they own the responsibility for managing all of that. It's an interesting way to stay inspired and motivated no matter what is happening in your career right now. Give the episode a listen and then share it with a friend. And GO CHIEFS! If you're looking to move your career or life forward, join us in Next Level, my monthly membership where we deal with mindset mastery and action planning. In life, it's a fundamental human need to feel like you belong. To feel a part of the group. That's true in our personal and our work life.In our career, we get much of our work identity from what we do for a living. The company we work at. The team we're a part of.  But there can be a downside to tribalism at work. And it happens when we use it to separate or exclude people from the group. When we refuse to collaborate or work with others. When we adopt an us vs. them philosophy. When we have a circle the wagons and shoot out mentality. When we use our work tribes to tear down others, that's when organizational politics and gamesmanship gets in the way of corporate productivity and the wellbeing of the employees who work there. On today's episode, we explore how the underbelly of tribalism can show up, how it hurts companies  and what you can do to make a positive difference.      Give the episode a listen. That can happen at anytime but which happen for many of us at midlife. And we talk about five steps you can take to proactively navigate that change to keep you moving forward with possibility instead of staying stuck in fear or uncertainty. Give it a listen.
