On this episode, we talked with, Isabella Nuño, the co-president of Latinos Unidos and To Write Love on Her Arms at Lake Forest College. Listen in as we talk about goals that Isabella has for these groups, a conversation on machismo in latinx culture and it’s impact, media representation surrounding machismo, as well as discussing mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
On this episode, we talked with our close community partner, Chenel VandenBerk, a sexual assault nurse examiner here in Lake County. We work very closely with Chenel to support survivors throughout their medical exams, although this has been virtual lately due to the pandemic. We recognize that the LGBTQIA community is more vulnerable to sexual violence and we also strive to celebrate the diversity of sexuality and gender in our community. We are so excited to be joined today by two community partners who work to provide support and services for the LGBTQIA community, Megan Sayre from Sayre Counseling and Rev. Nicole Farley, PFLAG Grayslake/Round Lake Chapter.
