Chris Lester/Hiring Expert - Are folks giving up their jobs for post pandemic adventures? Talent expert, Chris Lester joins me in the second half to discuss,  and help folks looking for virtual and mountain area employment and to help employers looking to hire. Plus, what's happening with the eviction moratorium, that was just struck down by a Federal Judge? WWNC570am or link to listen anywhere at 10am est www.realestatenewsradio.comNorth Carolina is also under its own eviction moratorium through June 30. Gov. Roy Cooper mandated the moratorium through an executive order. Pisgah Legal Services managing attorney Robin Merrell said Cooper's order will remain in effect even if it's invalidated by a federal court judge without jurisdiction over North Carolina. She explained that the federal judge who overturned the CDC moratorium Wednesday is a D.C.-circuit judge, therefore that decision has no bearing on North Carolina's moratorium."I think both landlords and tenants need to understand that. It does not mean that the landlord can run to the courthouse tomorrow and file against the tenants who have been unable to pay due to the pandemic," Merrell said.Rowena keeps it light and fun while she shares various questions that come in from potential buyers moving to the mountains, and folks thinking of selling their home, as well as bonus podcasts on The Real Estate News Radio Show with Rowena Patton. A boutique hotel with a twistWant to stay overnight in a former jail cell? A decaying county jail has been transformed into a boutique hotel just north of Asheville in Madison County. The Old Marshall Jail Hotel is now open for bookings. The transformation of the building is incredible, and the team behind its transformation have done more than preserve an old building - they're saving the rich community stories and history connected to the jail. It's a really cool project. The Grove Arcade is hot right nowHuli Sue's BBQ and Grill coming to the Grove Arcade, and I've just talked to the restaurant owners. They moved from Hawaii to Asheville. They've got extensive restaurant experience, and they've got an answer for the staffing crisis now affecting restaurants. I'll fill out the picture of what's ahead.Huli Sue's is just the latest addition to the Grove Arcade, which is filling up with some great new additions, including: Asheville Proper, a new steakhouse that opened last year; Summit Coffee Shop, which just opened last month; Wellbred Bakery is opening up there soon; last fall, Bebette's opened a coffee shop there as well; and Nani's Rotisserie Chicken just opened earlier this year. How about some public art updates for Asheville?More public art coming to River Arts DistrictThree new pieces of public art are planned in the River Arts District. One is considered an "iconic gateway" piece, one is a mural project and the third is described as a "playful art-themed piece" that is interactive.Meantime, a work by artist DeWayne Barton is scheduled to be installed in the River Arts District this week, along the new greenway there. The piece is made of stand-alone letters cut out of metal that will be attached to the greenway fence, and will spell out the quote: "All feet stand under the stars." The quote is from a poem by Barton. Will joins Ro today on his debut radio experience.Rowena keeps it light and fun while she shares various questions that come in from potential buyers moving to the mountains, and folks thinking of selling their home, as well as bonus podcasts on The Real Estate News Radio Show with Rowena Patton. See our listingsSee our Buyers  (do you have a home that meets their needs?) at www.AllstarBuyers.comHuge gratitude to my guest, Stephen Hendersonhttps://brothersandsisterslikethese.com/How Brothers Like These came to be:In spring of 2014, Joseph Bathanti, a Creative Writing Professor at Appalachian State University and then North Carolina Poet Laureate, and Dr. Bruce Kelly, a primary care physician at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, began conversations about launching a creative program for Vietnam Veterans in Kelly’s care who were struggling with PTSD. Kelly had been pioneering Medical Humanities at the VA, as well as a community-based Arts in Medicine program – programs that transformed what healing looks like for wounded veterans. Bathanti, in his two-year signature project as poet laureate, had worked with returning combat veterans and their families to harvest their war-time stories through various strands of creative writing. After months of strategizing and wrangling with red tape, Bathanti and Kelly began meeting with cohorts of Vietnam Veterans in Classroom B, an out of the way room in the basement of the Asheville VA, where they gathered weekly to write. In January of 2016 –through the generosity of the NC Arts Council, the NC Humanities Council, the cooperation of Appalachian State University, and Kelly’s unflagging determination – Bathanti assumed the role of Charles George VA Medical Center Writer-in-Residence.Brothers Like These, a staged reading of those Vietnam Veterans reading the work they produced in classroom B, premiered on August 31, 2016 at the Asheville Community Theater, and was later reprised at Appalachian State University on April 19, 2017. It’s been performed in Franklin, NC, Old Fort, NC, at the Vietnam Veterans of America annual mid-Atlantic Convention in Durham, NC, and was excerpted at the Carolina Mountains Literary Festival in Burnsville, NC in September of 2019 and at the North Carolina Writers Network Annual Conference in Asheville, also in 2019.Brothers Like These weaves the remarkable voices of unimaginably brave soldiers who gave their all during the Vietnam War. These are stories and poems, large and small, funny and heartbreaking — not just invaluable to succeeding generations of soldiers, but to every citizen of our country, and beyond. In April of 2017, the book, Brothers Like These, was published by St. Andrews University Press, and remains the Press’s best-seller.—Joseph Bathanti    Professor of English at Appalachian State UniversityNC Poet Laureate (2012-2014)

Tina chats with Rowena Patton, AllstarPowerhouse Real EstateRELEASED yesterday FRIDAY - Fly Without Fear - elimination of some testing and quarantine restrictions(CNN)The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday released a highly anticipated update to travel guidance for people who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19, eliminating some testing and quarantine recommendations.Fully vaccinated people can travel at low risk to themselves, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said Friday, but travel still isn't recommended at this time because of rising numbers of coronavirus cases. The agency said that as long as coronavirus precautions are taken, including mask wearing, fully vaccinated people can travel within the United States without getting tested for Covid-19 before or self-quarantining after.  *   Safety measures which have been put in place to protect our staff and Veterans. Everything from our screening process to the required wearing of masks, physical distancing, testing protocol prior to procedures, etc.  *   Appointments – We offer multiple ways for our Veterans to get their appointments. We offer phone and video appointments as well as many face-to-face appointments. Our telehealth work has been extremely successful in the mental health arena. It has also opened doors for our facility to reach out and help our Veterans in rural areas.  *   Trust/Satisfaction -- The Veterans enrolled in our health care system are very happy with the care they receive here. We have a 93 percent Veteran trust score, while the national average sits comfortably in the 80s. We want Veterans to enroll with us. We offer the best health care in the country, and we want our Veterans to know we are taking every precaution to ensure their safety while providing them with the best care available. Choose VA!  *   The way ahead – our facility has been diligently looking at the best ways to reopen face to face services, while continuing to employ some of the methods adopted due to the pandemic. Telehealth for instance is probably going to continue for the foreseeable future.  *   Our Vaccine success. We have been able to vaccinate 25 percent of our Veterans, which exceeds the national average of 1 in 5 adults. We have put together the most efficient and effective Vaccine Clinic in our parking lot. This is a great time to enroll in our health care system!Rowena keeps it light and fun while she shares various questions that come in from potential buyers moving to the mountains, and folks thinking of selling their home, as well as bonus podcasts on The Real Estate News Radio Show with Rowena Patton.
