Today we are joined by Brittney Woolley, is the development department at NAMT (National Alliance for Musical Theatre). Brittney teaches us what the college BFA programs don't, and takes us through her career in fundraising for theatre's and arts organizations and how theatre's are funded. We learn about individual giving, and how donor relationships with theaters are so important. And we learn all about GRANTS, and how they are kind of like scholarships for artists. Whether you want to write a corporate grant, or go through the grant writing process for funds from the NEA (National Endowment for the Arts), Brittney can help you find where to start!!!! The Broadway industry has been plagued with its own problems when it comes to people in power abusing that power. As I pledged to not make this podcast a “toxic positivity” we are talking about Broadway and film/tv producer Scott Rudin and his well known history of abuse to his employees. After the recent article from The Hollywood Reporter, it looks like people are finally paying attention. Karen Olivo has departed her show, Actors’ Equity Association finally releases a statement. We’ll have to see what happens next. Also, real life twins reuniting after over 30 years of being separated. Neither even knew they had a twin. Lastly, Matt and I chat talk about all the positive things going on in our worlds like recovering from side effects from the second Pfizer vaccine! Shelly Rodriguez is a professional theatre lighting designer turned TV set decorator, while also juggling her endless hobbies. During this chat we explore what sparks that desire to master as many artistic pursuits as possible, where she fell in love with storytelling, and how one can become a more well rounded artist. Especially during 2020, many artists have had to pivot their career pursuits. Well Shelly is here to tell you that, that is great! You are not identified by the one job you did for awhile. You didn't waste that time. It made you into the better person, and artist you are today!!!!  Also, Matt and I talk about bio printing ceramic ink bones! Science is cool!
