Yes, Dad died.  Yes, it was tough living with him and Mom while I watched him fight for his life for his wife.  And yes, it was a blessing to be here.I did do some podcasts until October, however, it was tough.  Dad told me in June he was dying.  Amazing man!!  Renaissance man.  Great in art, science, English, and sports.  Wrote poems, sand base baritone skied, and played tennis like a pro and any other sport he was so good at even without coaching.  And a wonderful leader.... and most of all husband and father.Even if he left on December 23rd, I have felt more pain from stress, yet no visit from "bulimia".  Not even once did I even consider it.  So for anyone who thinks it's a disease like alcohol or cigarettes?  Not at all.  I eat food now as enjoyment and blessing as I did at Dad's Celebration of Life, without having to overeat and run to some toilet somewhere and throw up my pain.  My pain is in my heart and surrounded by my feeling of his presence in my Mom.  After all, they say when you get married you become one.  Only when Mom goes will Dad go.Thank you for being a listener.  I look forward to my new guests.  We will be resuming first week of February with Kari Anderson, My Eating Doctor.   Looking so forward to that. Anissa said she began taking yoga lessons.  She had no intention of teaching.  Anissa lived in a large active Military community.  She decided to support the community and realized she had to start by helping herself.Trauma was not a stranger in Anissa's life.  She says she knows it intimately.  Among the traumas, she is a bereaved mother and a two-time rape survivor.  She says today her mat is her best friend, her confidant.  Anissa's healing programs deal with working PTSD out of the body.  She says you have to treat the whole person.   She explains that this kind of yoga therapy is not for anyone.  There are different types of yoga.  There are therapeutic yogas, and these are specialized.  Anissa's is specific to PTSD.  People with PTSD either live in the future or in the past.  The goal is to have them live in the present. To the eating disorder, Anissa says it is abuse and addictive behaviour, and typically they arise from trauma, be it several small traumas, or large ones. You can find out more about Anissa and her programs by going to on your phone.  It is an app.Anissa's biography:My life has been intertwined with PTSD/Trauma and the military. Not only am I the daughter of a Vietnam Veteran, I was also married to an active duty member (and Iraq/Afghanistan Veteran) for over 20 years. For 3 years, I volunteered at the Warrior Transition Battalion at Fort Riley, Kansas providing yoga therapy, meditation, and other holistic treatments to the soldiers, family members, and staff. After seeing others struggle, and having my own personal struggles with trauma/PTSD, I was inspired to create the Trauma Healing Yoga Therapy Program. As a Yoga Therapist and founder of the Trauma Healing Yoga Therapy Program, I guide others in the use of effective, science-based yoga therapy and other holistic techniques for the management/healing of symptoms relating to PTSD and trauma for people who want to control their PTSD - not allow it to control them.Recently, I have focused my efforts on working with women who have been sexually traumatized to help them heal their PTSD (and other trauma-related issues) with yoga therapy. As a 2x rape survivor, I intimately understand the needs these women face and help them navigate their healing journeys. I earned my 200 RYT, 500 RYT and was awarded my Certification in Yoga Therapy from the International Association of Yoga Therapy. Additionally, I have completed a 120 Hour YogaFit Warriors training and the MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) online course through the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Currently a student with the Phoenix Rising School of Yoga Therapy, I'm learning another approach to utilizing yoga to help release trauma from the body. I work with people with all types of physical conditions, however, I specialize in working with those suffering from PTSD, TBI’s, and all trauma-related issues and have been for over the past 5 years. Support the show
Beautiful episode with Alison who shares about her eating disorder and her journey to recovery.  What an amazing story about using holistic practices to heal.  As I often say, this podcast is about finding the RIGHT solution for YOU.   Alison's story is one that speaks to using our life experiences to heal and recover.   Alison speaks to the combination of how this holistic yoga, meditation, walking, art and group, nutrition therapy... and more.  It was accessing yourself from so many angles.  I love that.Alison wrote an article about addiction recovery and wrote about being a "recovered addict" and was called on that by someone.  The person's vision was "once an addict always an addict", and Alison disagrees.  I agree with Alison.  Recovery is achievable when it comes to eating disorders.I truly am always grateful for my guests who share their stories about their own journeys, and I do hope that my listeners feel the same."Allow this eating disorder to release its grip on us..."  What powerful words.  And OH MY GOSH being weighed at a young age and being tall?  I could relate so much!  Stories Alison shared that were so parallel. Please visit Alison at www.embodymylife.comAlison always has various programs, retreats, and offerings running so she is just putting her website there for simplicity! She does have a FREE Guided Meditation on her website if you sign up for her email list. the show
Very interesting conversation with Spencer.  Who knew that Social Assistance was available to people with eating disorders?  I know I am in Canada, however, I think the conversation about mental health and how Bulimia falls under this category, is really important for my listeners to know, globally. You can find Spencer at site includes the book overview, where to purchase, and links to both interviews and Spencer's social media links.More about Spencer:Spencer Bishins has a master’s degree from the London School of Economics, and a law degree from Florida State University. Unpack and heal your trauma with Greg.  He helps people feel the pain to be able to metabolize it.  Can we create our own trauma?  Why do we hide our trauma?  Greg speaks to relationships with others being so important.  Greg works with people to connect to their inate wisdom.  These notes will never be able to clearly define Greg's own wisdom and the wonderful responses to the questions I ask him.  Listen from start to finish to hear those in-depth answers to questions I asked that were not so simple to find an answer to.Being able to feel some really hard things needs to be done slowly, and that is a part of healing. You can reach Greg at or at https://www.prismamethod.comMore about PRISMA:The PRISMA Course is the owner's manual and roadmap for mental, emotional, and spiritual health. An online community offers travel companions, guided meditations are the built-in GPS and a self-care energy medicine foundation training is the vehicle needed for a lifetime of healing. This is an arc of transformation to heal the anxiety and depression rooted in trauma. More about Greg:Greg is most compelled by the intersection of all things leadership, healing, purpose, and performance. He loves to discuss the bridge between entrepreneurship and spirituality and how leadership can be used as a healing force for good. Greg is also interested in exploring the state of mental health in America and why we have a sick-care, not a healthcare system that’s in crisis. And he brings a unique take on how to effectively heal the trauma that underlies anxiety, depression, and chronic pain without chasing or suppressing symptoms.Greg can geek out on neuroscience, energy medicine, and mindfulness making it practical, relevant, accessible, and fun. :)Support the show

Josie Warren and I discussed her work, and why she became a Chronic Illness Expert.  Part of that was overcoming her own struggle with bulimia, which she is now recovered 7 years from.  Josie says she thought she would be a lifetime bulimic and is happy to have learned that she could indeed overcome it.  Josie started her bulimia at about 12 in 7th grade, and in high school, it became more regular, three to seven times a day, daily for well over a decade.Josie came from a family of bulimics and eating disorders.  There was a time that she would have said it was because of her family and she was fated to be bulimic.  She changed her mindset saying she was the one who chose bulimia.  Bulimia is not visible.  It is a secret to the one who is bulimic.  "I could hide it behind a closed door," says Josie.  We chatted about how we thought other people thought about us was really about how we really felt about ourselves.  What inspired Josie to seek recovery?  Her deteriorating health condition was the reason.  The avenues of therapy were not working.  Someone suggested connecting with A New Life Center in Colorado.  She went in for her auto-immune issues and chronic illnesses.  She was accepted into their program and found out that chronic stress was the reason for her illnesses.  This led to dealing with those suppressed stresses, and with that, a magical thing happened and her bulimia also was cured.  Josie speaks to the sympathetic, flight or fight stage of stress, and entering into the para-sympathetic nervous system, where the body regains homeostasis.Wonderful information.  A must listen to.To connect with Josie, please visit link takes you to her website and a contact form. From here, you can connect and see how Josie might best help .youHer website will also give more information about my program and unique perspective on wellness. Support the show
Leah is brave in sharing her story, as were my previous guests.  In this case, I found it interesting that, as Leah said, not many women start later in life to have an eating disorder.  Although it is becoming more common, it is still outside of the norm. Most women who struggle with later issues with eating disorders did start in their earlier years.  This is true.  So that Leah shared as a person who started later in life, and that her story coincides with the Pandemic and too with anxiety, is very interesting. As noted in this podcast episode, Leah felt it was a long time.  It took her a year to reach out.  And it took her another year to find the proper support.  In my mind, I wish all those who suffered for 10, 20, and 30 years had that same feeling of it being a long time.  And for finding support sooner.I have to reiterate that I give accolades to Leah for opening up.  It's not easy.  And yet it's so important to my listeners to know they are not alone. Here is the link to the article Leah referenced:How “Playing the Tape Forward” Helped Me Stay SoberWhy this visualization technique is one of the most powerful recovery tools that I know.By Benya ClarkDo you have a story?  Please contact me if you are ready to share it.New Release Kindle or Signed Copy! This was a very inspiring Podcast, where Shani shares her journey through recovery.  I loved that she focussed on what it is truly about.  Emotions.  At times it starts off differently, however, it always transitions into that emotional realm. The question to ask, as Shani so clearly states, is the "Why".  Used in business, and why you want to succeed, rarely is it used for this.  Thank you, Shani, for speaking about this.Wonderfully honest and open, and I love that Shani shared her story for anyone out there struggling to listen to.Bulimia can be beaten, and without ever wanting to go back.  This is the truth. You can find her at and on FB War With Myself No More.More about Shani-Lee:Shani-Lee grew up in Newcastle, England with childhood secrets that manifested into a battle with Bulimia. She emigrated to Arizona, where she started to unpeel the complex layers of emotions that her secrets had inflicted. Turning her own journey of self-help into a path to help others, is how War with Myself was born. What is she doing now? Shani-Lee is getting ready to launch a series of in-person & online workshops to help those that will benefit from peer mentorship.  Each workshop will encompass and encourage the principles of EDIT.a method that helps you to understand your Eating Disorder Voice, exploring why it’s there in the first place and how it serves a purpose.  It transitions into Intuitive Therapy which encourages you to open up and heal from within and gain new skills to aid in your recovery. Mindful movement, journaling, group work, meditation, affirmations, sponsorship, acts of kindness, and more…   Support the show

"A Surprisingly Simple Method for Getting Out of Your Own Way" is the tag line for the Taming Your Gremlin book by Rick Carson.  It was in 2013, 2 years recovered from the "act" of bulimia that I was introduced to his book through a coaching program I was taking through Handwriting University called the PRISM Life Redesign Program designed by Bart Baggett, the Founder.  He explained to me his mother convinced him this book would be valuable.  I agree.  As a recovered bulimic after 30 years, (now going on 12 years recovered) Rick's book was what I needed to address the "final" steps towards recovery and the steps towards self-awareness, moving forward, and "noticing".When I contacted Rick to ask him to be on my Podcast (I do have two so we did manage to share Rick's message to both), he agreed, feeling that Bleep Bulimia listeners would find value in his message, and I was so thrilled. (Super EXCITED would be a better way of expressing my feelings)  However, I also believe that there are many Coaches and guests who have been on the LIFT Your Story podcast who would benefit from listening to this.  Hence, my co-host Roy was invited to represent that Podcast.  Thank you, Roy.I hope you really get something out of this because for years I have reread and reviewed my copy of the book and now I am reading A Master Class In Gremlin Taming.  I am halfway through it, and Rick has advised me that the really exciting part is in the last half - Now I am even more anxious to get through it!Truly an honor to have Rick Carson on our podcast.   In my journey in life, he is one of the top legends.  I can't put him above God.  Sorry, Rick. :)I can say I wish I had been introduced to this book earlier in my life, and maybe I would not have gone 30 years struggling with bulimia.  On the other hand, I am grateful I did at all!   Be it during your recovery, or even post-recovery, it's a gem to have.  In fact, it's a gem to have at any time for anyone!Rick does give us some information at the end of this podcast regarding his 2023 program.  You can also create a group and he will work the program out for your group.  You can reach him at or take a visit to his "simple" website  #tamingyourgremlin #RickCarson #bulimiarecovery #bleepbulimia #midlifebulimiawareness #notice #greatmessage Support the show

This is all you need to thrive in all aspects of life and leave a healthy legacy to future generations so that our children can live and love as their true selves. If you are determined and ambitious, don’t give much ear to the status quo, are action-oriented, open-minded, and driven by a strong personal desire to accomplish meaningful goals, then you are ready to fully take the lead of your life. Why do we need absolute awareness? We all inherit our family’s emotional baggage. This can be contaminated by destructive family convictions and tendencies, past traumas, and inner conflicts. This toxic inheritance affects the natural development of our potential and our psychological, emotional, and physical functioning, compromising the quality of our lives. Therefore instead of creating our own reality we repeat our family’s painful (hi)story. We can change the course of our (hi)story and become the authentic leaders of our experience.Allowing a true awareness of our being, 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘥𝘶, we can reshape our lives, healing what needs to be healed and letting go of what doesn’t serve us anymore. When her daughter was growing up, Cynthia realized she was not ready for parenting and how to deal with it.  She was coaching at the time and decided to research this topic.  There was nothing that she truly answered the question she was looking for.   It was what inspired her to research it further and to write her book Ally Parenting.Cynthia explains that everything she is talking about in regards to communication blocks is applicable to all relationships, be it children, spouses, or friends. The important thing is how you respond to make them either open to you or move away from you.   So how do parents overcome the communication block?  First, you have to listen to what they are saying.   It's important to respond in a way they feel heard.  Cynthia provides an example that is "placating".  That is when you want them to feel better and take away their "something" is usually our first impulse.  The child interprets it differently. This is a communication block.   Cynthia provides a few more valuable examples worth listening to!In Cynthia's book, she has a chart with a list of ten potential communication blocks, and the underlying message that the other person can perceive it as.This episode is a must listen to for anyone. The book as well.  In this Podcast, I felt this to be invaluable for parents dealing with children with bulimia, as I have coached in the past, and midlife bulimics to learn themselves how to communicate with others. Here are some important links to how to reach Cynthia and her free gift:"Enjoy my gift of - 8 Dos and Don’ts of Parenting" - link: about Cyntia:Family Happiness Expert and Parenting Coach Cynthia Klein’s passion is to create world peace by first creating peace within each family.
