Description

A coming of age screwball comedy for people of all ages. Seasons 1-5 are short self-contained scenes in the life of an elderly woman, random conversations (vignettes) with people of all ages—entertaining and a wee bit provocative. Seasons 6 and 7 take place in a parallel Superhero territory, whereby Helen, in her late-70s, discovers she has been chosen to 'save the planet' - if she only knew what her superpower is. Written, performed and produced by Aussie-born, Liverpool-based actress, singer-songwriter and performance poet Flloyd Kennedy, with occasional guest performers. I use Buzzsprout and it makes hosting this podcast a smooth and enjoyable process. ★★★★★ "This is delightful storytelling from Flloyd Kennedy. Gentle but deceptively sharp; underestimate the characters populating this podcast at your own peril. The writing, performance and music are all a joy." The podcast is still on hiatus, working on the script for Season/Series 8. I was in London for the Podcast Show London 2023, and  met up with actor Christopher McDougall for lunch. The traffic sirened around us, and the cafe door squeaked endlessly, yet we managed to record a snippet of conversation to share with you. Still working on the script for Season 8. Here's a song written in the form of riddle, quite popular in the folk tradition.  This one was inspired by a song-writing workshop challenge.  Thanks for listening, stay safe.Support the show You can leave a comment or review at www.amIoldyet.com/reviews, and donate towards our production costs at amIoldyet.com/support. @AmIOldYet2 The music featured in Seasons 6 and 7 is from "In The Labyrinth" by John T LaBarbera, available on Bandcamp. https://www.buzzsprout.com/?referrer_id=1708289 Thanks for listening. Something different while we wait for Season 8 to land. Yet another one of my songs. This one was written for a musical that never eventuated, about an ageing actress trying to restart her career. Here she prepares for an audition, and expresses the thoughts any one who has been involved in a 'cattle call' audition will appreciate. Helen's fans will be pleased to hear that Episode 1 of Season 8 has been scripted! Please help to spread the word, share links to the podcast on social media. Bonus ep. To My Mother

Bonus ep. To My Mother

This song was originally written for a play-with-music, "Blame it on Your Mother", back in the early 2000s. I thought, at the time, that I was fictionalising my own experience to gift to a character who had more sense than me. But time passed, and as it happened, this is exactly how my relationship with my mother panned out! So yes—another autobiographical song.I perform it unaccompanied because I don't have a white grand piano and a fantastic accompanist to work with.  And my ukulele just doesn't cut the mustard for this particular song.Support the show You can leave a comment or review at www.amIoldyet.com/reviews, and donate towards our production costs at amIoldyet.com/support. @AmIOldYet2 The music featured in Seasons 6 and 7 is from "In The Labyrinth" by John T LaBarbera, available on Bandcamp. https://www.buzzsprout.com/?referrer_id=1708289 Thanks for listening. Bonus Episode, an autobiographical song, all about me! Plus a heads up about the new, spinoff podcast I'm working on in which I'll be talking to some of my friends and colleagues about their life experience, creative process and attitudes to ageing. Back in the mists of time, I wrote a stage play called "Blame it on Your Mother", which consisted of a series of monologues, duologues and songs on the theme of mother/daughter relationships.  Here is the voice of the 6 year old, telling it how it is. At last, the big finale. Helen finds herself the centre of attention, so she has to take advantage of the situation and see if she can get some real changes happening. The Greek Gods are there to make sure she's safe, Team Helen also in support. Pity it's all a fiction, that's all I can say. This is the end of Season 7.  I'm about to launch into the world of Podcast Interviews, but it will take a few weeks to organise. I'll let you know when it's ready. At last, the big day has arrived, and Helen in a bit of a flap, getting ready to attend the 2023 UK Philanthropist of the Year Awards ceremony. She's wearing the fabulous one-off designer ball gown provided by the goddess Artemis, and Hermes is 'getting a lift'. What could possibly go wrong?
