1/200 hosts Greens candidate Louise Hutt to discuss the challenges and issues in the Hamilton West electorate. The electorate has many of the same concerns as the rest of Aotearoa during this Cost of Living Crisis, and there’s plenty of opportunity for progressive policy. We talk Te Huia trains, environmental policy, infrastructure and candidate safety.https://www.greens.org.nz/volunteerThis episode’s co-hostsKyle, Simone, PmaxTimestamps0:00 Opening / Introductions2:37 Campaigning 4:01 NZ First 8:33 Hamilton14:36 Profile and Safety23:30 Why Doesn’t Safety Get Airtime28:43 Hamilton West34:08 PC136:49 Public Transport45:00 Broader Appetite for the Greens51:00 Making Public Works Public56:59 Best Interactions59:53 ClosingIntro/Outro by Jiahu SymbolsSupport us here: https://www.patreon.com/1of200
We host Mahdis Azarmandi and David Small to discuss the lack of foreign policy discussion during an election where the global political environment should be at the forefront of our minds. From the macro state of geopolitics, to the ways in which our parliamentary parties are being pulled into, or are complicit in, a western chauvinist consensus that may leave us dangerously vulnerable. This episode’s co-hostsKyle, PhilipTimestamps0:00 Opening / Introductions6:40 New Zealand’s Juncture Internationally 11:10 Imperialism15:29 How Do We Engage?21:20 Defense Spending29:30 Sanctions36:22 The “Good Guys” 44:23 Palestine55:35 Pushbacks1:04:15 How Are You Going to Make This Happen1:09:55 Continuities of Parties 1:20:27 Inconsistencies 1:31:32 ClosingsIntro/Outro by Jiahu SymbolsSupport us here: https://www.patreon.com/1of200
Tony Greenstein, author of Zionism During the Holocaust, discusses the history of Zionism and anti-Zionism. Zionism before World War II was a minority position among Jews mostly associated with elite and right-wing politics. Political Zionism was a Christian invention first and has always had a strong affinity with antisemitism, to the extent that many Jewish Zionists have expressed support for antisemitism. Many were themselves profoundly antisemitic. Tony describes the price he has paid for being a premature anti-Zionist and for failing to compromise his principles. He has been expelled from UK’s Labour and Green Parties. He was also charged under the UK’s terrorism act and faced 14 years in prison. Rather than leaving the matter to his barrister, Tony gave his own speech to summarise his defence – a speech that has since been published around the world.Tony’s work can be found at tonygreenstein.com and his speech here: https://www.themeetingplacewymington.co.uk/tony-greensteins-closing-speechThis episode’s co-hostsKieranTimestamps0:00 Opening / Introductions0:51 History of Anti-Zionism8:18 Zionism and the Far Right20:40 Labor Zionism vs Revisionist Zionism26:48 Liberalism33:00 Pushback40:40 Terrorism Laws43:18 Arrest and Trial53:37 Andy Burnham58:35 ClosingIntro/Outro by Jiahu SymbolsSupport us here: https://www.patreon.com/1of200
