Description

All In All Out focuses on promoting 1) greater communication and collaboration in the field of reentry/reform/decarceration efforts in Wisconsin and 2) showcasing the successes, humanity, and agency of people with criminal records. All In All Out is produced in partnership with The Community (thecommunitynow.us), the Wisconsin Decarceration Platform (wisdp.org), and the Milwaukee School of Engineering. We are part of a small community of podcast/radio shows in Wisconsin working to correct the narrative about the justice system and how we can better bring about a justice system more worthy of that name.

What started out as an exploration of the possibilities of traveling while on paper (extended supervision) ultimately turned into a legitimate research project ending with Adam Procell and Shannon Ross traveling to the only non-profit prison in the world located in Belize.

Dr. Darren Wheelock is, among other things, a criminal justice professor at Marquette University who has studied recidivism for a number of years. We spoke about the way this widely accepted barometer of success or failure in criminal justice programs and funding is misleading to say the least. Not only is it defined differently in states across the county but many of the ways it is defined overstate the issue or understate it considerably. We also touch on the new Education Preparedness Program at Marquette blending incarcerated and non-incarcerated college students. - To contact and for more info on The Community: https://sociatap.com/Thecommunity/- For resources and events in reentry/reform/decarceration work in Wisconsin visit the Wisconsin Decarceration Platform

Dialo Orr has been incarcerated for 25 years on a 100+ year sentence. His journey from angry and lost, to sick and tired, to mighty healer is just one example of the grace and human beauty we neglect and disincentivize in jails in prisons. Chuck is also a prime example of the adage that those closest to the problem are closest to the solution.- To contact and for more info on The Community: https://sociatap.com/Thecommunity/- For resources and events in reentry/reform/decarceration work in Wisconsin visit the Wisconsin Decarceration Platform
As an experienced civil rights lawyer and long-time humanizer, Janos Marton is an influential and respected leader in safety and justice work nationally. His commentary on the discussion between reform and abolition is an excellent way to better understand the complexity of the issue. But don’t let it be the whole story for you. For answers on abolitionism we either didn’t cover or didn’t have answers for, explore Mariame Kaba and Ruth Wilson Gilmore (among others). - To contact and for more info on The Community: https://sociatap.com/Thecommunity/- For resources and events in reentry/reform/decarceration work in Wisconsin visit the Wisconsin Decarceration Platform
David Carlson fought in the military, spent time in prison, and has significant experience as a humanizer in the reentry/reform/decarceration work with the ACLU in Eau Claire. His background and experience led to some powerful commentary during our conversation about collaborating across state, his disappointment working with the police to address the system, and his new venture We Adapt, which treats people through exercise and the outdoors. David is a fantastic example of how those who have experienced incarceration are leaders in work to promote more comprehensive and sustainable safety and justice in society.- To contact and for more info on The Community: https://sociatap.com/Thecommunity/- For resources and events in reentry/reform/decarceration work in Wisconsin visit the Wisconsin Decarceration Platform
