In S4 E7, you'll hear from Phylicia Masonheimer. Have you ever wondered where your beliefs about faith, God, pornography, etc. really came from? Oftentimes it comes from our own understanding of the Bible, but even more than that it comes from what we've been taught or what we've done. In this interview, Phylicia discusses her new book, Every Woman a Theologian, as it relates to the sexually addicted woman and answers the question of why it is important for Christian women to understand their personal theology perspective.Phylicia Masonheimer is a blogger, author, speaker and podcast host teaching Christians how to know what they believe and live it boldly. Her heart is to teach women the history and depth of the Christian faith; the "why" behind the Bible. Her social media and blog cover topics ranging from sexuality to motherhood to Bible study and faith in seasons of grief and loss.Phylicia graduated from Liberty University with a B.S. in Religion. While there, she met her husband, Josh, and together they have three children. After living in Virginia and Pennsylvania, they returned to Phylicia's hometown in northern Michigan, where they live on a small farm in the country. Resources Referenced in this Episode: Phylicia's book - Every Woman a Theologian Phylicia's website and bookstore Phylicia's on InstagramSchedule a free consultation at Living on PurposeAttend unlimited recovery meetings with SheRecovery membership Support SheRecovery on PayPal, Venmo, or Buy Us a Coffee.Support the showThank you for listening to the SheRecovery Podcast, a resource of SheRecovery.com. In S3E5 of the SheRecovery Podcast, you'll hear from Crystal Renaud Day along with her mom and special guest Gina Renaud as they walk through 90 Days to Wholeness™ recovery devotional in our Whole New Year series. In this week's episode, Crystal and Gina continue their discussion on the second step in the devotional confession by  introducing a form of confession you may not be familiar with:  Affirmation.Affirmation is defined as:the action or process of affirming something or being affirmed. It’s a declaration, statement or assurance that something is true.emotional support or encouragement. Affirmations should be positive and true, but many of us have only heard negative things declared about us from parents, boyfriends, classmates, etc. like, “you are ugly,” “you will never amount to anything,” or “you’re not good enough.” A number of us have made own own negative statements about ourselves when we mess up or make a mistake. After a while we start to believe them, and our soul becomes damaged. Many women have unknowingly turned to pornography, masturbation and other sexual behaviors as a means of soothing or covering up their hurts.Scripture says there is life and death in the power of words. Listen as Crystal and Gina share steps to break the hold of negative words and beliefs and how to heal the damage they have caused. Resources Referenced:90 Days to Wholeness™ coloring devotional workbook on Amazon90 Days to Wholeness™ for FREE on YouVersionEnroll in SheRecovery Virtual MeetingsLifeRecovery Bible SheRecovery Facebook GroupSchedule Free Consultation (Counseling)Thank you for listening to the SheRecovery Podcast - a resource of SheRecovery.com. In S3E4 of the SheRecovery Podcast, you'll hear from Crystal Renaud Day along with her mom and special guest Gina Renaud as they walk through 90 Days to Wholeness™ recovery devotional in our Whole New Year series.  In this week’s episode, Crystal and Gina begin their discussion on the second recovery step outlined in the devotional: Confession. The biblical definition of confession is the acknowledging or confessing of sins before God. The first step in confession is realizing what sin is, how you may have inadvertently got there, and how to get right with God. One of the ways to recognize sin is that as you continue doing wrong things, they escalate to uncontrollable urges or impulses and unhealthy practices. What we do is planting seeds and nurturing them by continuing these behaviors. You don’t realize what’s been planted in your soul until you start producing fruit. By now you are seeing the negative results, feeling dirty, sad, shameful, secretive maybe even experiencing sickness in your mind and body. 1 Corinthians 6:18So, now comes the Good News about Confession. Acknowledging and confessing our sins (our wrong doings) to God opens the door to the process of cleansing. A release from the baggage weighing you down. Proverbs 28:13Every human whether committing sexual sins or not needs to confess their sins. Everyone accepting God will start a sanctification process, a new way of life. Yours may look different initially because of the nature of your sins, but take heart. Once you confess your personal sins to God and ask forgiveness for them, you are restored to perfect fellowship and communion with Him.1 Thessalonians 4:3 1 John 1:9Be specific in your confession, but don’t beat yourself up. Acknowledge what you’ve done. God knows and He is ready to receive you. Confess to others (like your SheRecovery meeting). Hearing yourself own up to moral failure to other safe people is a good foundation to keep you from making excuses about why you have sinned. James 5:16As long as you are alive on this earth, you will have sin. If you should slip up, stop and confess your sin to God. Do not allow the enemy to lie to you and cause shame. God does not shame, He merely reveals, so you can confess and start over. He will strengthen you.Resources Referenced:90 Days to Wholeness™ coloring devotional workbook on Amazon90 Days to Wholeness™ for FREE on YouVersionEnroll in SheRecovery Virtual MeetingsLifeRecovery Bible SheRecovery Facebook GroupSupport the showThank you for listening to the SheRecovery Podcast, a resource of SheRecovery.com. In S3E2 of the SheRecovery Podcast, you'll hear from Crystal Renaud Day along with her mom and special guest Gina Renaud as they walk through 90 Days to Wholeness™ recovery devotional in our Whole New Year series. In this episode, they continue their 3-part discussion on the topic of Surrender.Last week they discussed Surrender as a need to stop trying to be the boss because we do not have the power to change on our own. We acknowledged our need for spiritual assistance. This week, they discuss Surrender as term used in warfare or battle. You are probably unaware, but war was declared on us while we were in our mother’s womb. The devil (enemy) has hated us from the very beginning because he hates God and we are image-bearers of God! Now that you are making a decision to leave your harmful ways behind, you may have noticed a fight has begun.Hopefully, you have begun to turn to God as you are learning to surrender to the most benevolent, but powerful Being ever. At times you are still going to encounter the devil, and old habits will try to entice you again. You will need to fill up your spirit with the word of God to gain victory. By surrendering to God, He gives you power, armor, and weapons which are supernatural to fight and win.  Scripture HelpsPowerEphesians 6:10Nehemiah 8:10Psalm 144:1EnemiesEphesians 6:11-12  Armor Ephesians 6:13-17Weapons2 Corinthians 10:4-5Ephesians 6:18  Next StepsSurrender to God, resist the devil and he must flee.Get an easy to read or understand version of the Bible such as the New Living TranslationRead the Bible and personalize it. In S2E9 of the SheRecovery Podcast, you’ll hear from Noelle & Ryan Wilking. In this interview, Noelle shares her story of addiction recovery. While in recovery, Noelle met the man who would become her husband, Ryan, who was also struggling with pornography. Together, they learned to navigate their own recovery journeys while pursuing a pure relationship from dating to marriage (no easy task!). While not a perfect one, they want their story to be a testimony to others.  At the age of 16, in the middle of some of Noelle’s darkest moments, the Lord pressed it on her heart that she would not only find freedom, but that God would use her to help other women find victory from their sexual addictions. Her passion is to boldly proclaim the truth about God‘s beautiful design for sex and sexuality to His body and specifically help women walk into sexual wholeness. Around a year into recovery, Noelle met her husband Ryan. The Lord radically restored their sexual innocence while they were dating and believe the Lord will use testimonies to minister to others. For the last two years Noelle has led a support group at her church for women who struggle with pornography and sexual addiction at River of Life in Grand Junction, CO. In S2E8 of the SheRecovery Podcast, you’ll hear from Cassidy Brown. In this week's episode, we discuss a popular topic in recovery and in faith—how to accept God as a father when our own don't measure up or were absent all together.  Cassidy shares her story of freedom from a nearly decade long pornography addiction and in large part how her recovery required healing her view of God as a loving Father. Cassidy is currently studying at Southeastern University to get her ministerial leadership degree with a focus in pastoral care & counseling. She has gained a following on her social media channels from sharing the testimony God gave her, which includes overcoming a decade long pornography addiction. While spending time with her family and on campus are her favorite things, she also enjoys traveling & running her ministry, all one ministry. In S2E7 of the SheRecovery Podcast, you’ll hear Part 2 of a two-part interview with Dena Bennett. Dena came out of a hedonistic and atheistic lifestyle when she met Jesus in 2006. In this interview, Dena discusses what the long road of recovery from pornography addiction looked like after she found salvation (because like most, there wasn't instant freedom!). Dena also discusses the impact her recovery and desire for purity has had on dating and marriage. Before Jesus, Dena's life primarily revolved around sexual relationships, pornography, and masturbation. But by God's grace, with the help of her church, and over the course of many years, Dena experienced deep healing and transformation with regard to her sexual struggles, now walking in sexual sobriety for 8 years. In 2016 she had the great privilege of working with her church to help start a ministry for women who struggle with sexual sin. One of her many joys of being in this ministry has been to help develop a small group curriculum titled, Set Free: Equipping Women in the Quest for Sexual Integrity, recently published on Amazon. Dena currently lives in Des Moines, IA, with her husband Jacob and their dog Nuggets.Resources Referenced: Set Free: Equipping Women in the Quest for Sexual Integrity by Dena Bennett along with members of Walnut Creek ChurchDirty Girls Come Clean by Crystal Renaud DayThank you for listening to the SheRecovery Podcast - a resource of SheRecovery.com. In this interview, Dena talks about her journey of radical transformation—breaking free from pornography and other unwanted sexual behavior through a life surrendered to Christ. Before Jesus, Dena's life primarily revolved around sexual relationships, pornography, and masturbation. ***Episode Disclaimer*** We don’t shy away from difficult conversations at the SheRecovery Podcast, but this week is a bit different. This week, we are talking about grief. No one is immune from the impact of grief, whether it is the loss of a loved one, the loss of a relationship, or even having to grieve the loss of a dream or an expectation in life that hasn’t been fulfilled. We all grieve in one way or another, and for some of you right now, you’re in the middle of your grief. Our guest speaker for this episode Melissa Moore is no stranger to grief but she’s also a sister in recovery from pornography addiction. We give this disclaimer because it is easy to want to shy away from conversations like this because it is easier to just talk about the porn and those tangible issues. It is harder to talk about conditions of the heart—yet it is the conditions of the heart that more often than not keep us going back to porn, sex, what have you. So please engage in this conversation and if you need to talk with someone, you can always schedule a free phone consultation at livingonpurposekc.com to speak with one of our staff counselors.  In S2E5 of the SheRecovery Podcast, you'll hear from Melissa Moore. In this interview, Melissa opens up about her experience with grief as the result of three miscarriages and the loss of her mother to suicide—while also carrying the burden of a pornography addiction. Melissa candidly explains how a long term relationship with pornography and masturbation (even while married) became coping skills for her pain and grief. But not all is hopeless. Listen as Melissa shares how she went from just coping to finding real healing emotionally and spiritually.  Melissa is a Christian writer, women's speaker, and the host of the Faith Hope Love Show—where women grow together in their faith, increase in hope, and learn how to better love God and love other people. She is actively involved as the Assistant Coordinator of the Gateway MOPS/MOMSnext program, supports women grieving miscarriages at her local church, and teaches at various women’s events in the Central Valley of California. She has a BA in Psychology and Biblical Studies from Azusa Pacific University and a Graduate Diploma in Pastoral Care to Women from Western Seminary.
