THE SNAPPENING RETURNETH Hey everyone, we are back! Sorry it's been a while. Greg and Thom have both been traveling, and while we did take microphones with us and really wanted to record on the road, we just didn't get there. Super stoked to be back into it and record weekly again. In episode 154 we start off with a good old rant. We've noticed that some photographers keep their books closed for a certain future period, and then make a big fanfare about opening them up. In this episode we get down the nitty gritty on why people do this. We also talk about clients who THINK they want non-posed photos.... but is this actually what they want? The answers to these questions and many more lie in today's episode, come check it out! - - - - - - - - -Your hosts:Greg is based in Northland, New ZealandThom is based in NSW, Australia- - - - - - - - -Sponsors: Studio Ninja - SNAPPENING50 - 50% off first year Queensberry - SNAPPENING19 - 40% off Workspace Pixellu - SNAPPENING15 - 15% off all products Make it Snappen!
Hey there, AI-SnappersLook, our industry is changing fast, largely due to developments in AI. Computers can now edit for us, and even cull for us! But is this a good thing? Is it ethical to have an AI system edit our photos? Is the quality the same? Listen in to hear our take on things. In this episode full of ranty goodness we also discuss Greg's coming storm-chasing adventure, heavy metal festivals, and how long after a wedding you should be delivering your photos.
Hey heeeey kids!!! Episode 152 is live and oooh it's a good ranty one! We speak about pricing - where is the balance between too many bookings at a low price and too few at a high price? We chat about a great way to send photos straight to the Photos app for easy social media uploading. Then we get to the meat of the bone about Content Creators... are they they annoying and intrusive or the next big opportunity?- - - - - - - - - Your hosts: Greg is based in Northland, New Zealand Thom is based in NSW, Australia - - - - - - - - -Sponsors: Studio Ninja - SNAPPENING50 - 50% off first year Queensberry - SNAPPENING19 - 40% off Workspace Pixellu - SNAPPENING15 - 15% off all products Make it Snappen!
Ok listen... the cat's out of the bag - Thom can't stand film photos at a wedding. He lies down on the velvet chaise lounge and vents his frustrations - to a very receptive Greg who basically feels the same way. Also - the Canon R3... we tried one and have in depth comparison to Sony. Then, thanks to Myckenzie Russell we have myriad questions to answer from her awesome Facebook post! Oh hey and Paul Walker - hope you're feeling ok after the 'lovely' feedback on your questions about your website 😅Sponsors: Studio Ninja - SNAPPENING50 - 50% off first year Queensberry - SNAPPENING19 - 40% off Workspace Pixellu - SNAPPENING15 - 15% off all products Make it Snappen!
Wassssuppp!?!?!? Episode 150 is live - Thom and Greg talk gear today, as Greg is only a couple of months away from his next storm chasing trip. Thom has been scheming hard about having a single camera body at weddings - he's been eyeing up the Canon R3... We also touch on attracting your perfect clients and also helping clients have amazing weddings, without dictating or smothering them.- - - - - - - - - Your hosts: Greg is based in Northland, New Zealand Thom is based in NSW, Australia - - - - - - - - -Sponsors: Studio Ninja - SNAPPENING50 - 50% off first year Queensberry - SNAPPENING19 - 40% off Workspace Pixellu - SNAPPENING15 - 15% off all products Make it Snappen!
Hey Snap family! Listen, we all get hungry. Especially after standing and shooting for 6 hours. So it's supremely disappointing to find out our meal has been forgotten, or to receive a meal that isn't really filling. In Episode 149 we discuss our methods to make sure this never happens again! Thom also has a new Apple Studio Display, and some new lights. Hey snappers - where did the last eight weeks go? Well we’re recording today and we start off by getting into how terrible the weather has been in Auckland. What do you do when it’s a rainy day? Then we chat about what it’s like to take inspiration from other people's photography, or whether you’re better off to stick to your own style. And yeah the elephant in the room is how we kinda love blurry black-and-white photos now... after savagely mocking them a few episodes ago. Then lastly we appreciate how good auto focus is on modern cameras and then there’s a little extra to about whether signwriting on a vehicle is actually any good?Sponsors: Studio Ninja - SNAPPENING50 - 50% off first year Queensberry - SNAPPENING19 - 40% off Workspace Pixellu - SNAPPENING15 - 15% off all products Make it Snappen!
Hello, citizens of the Snap realmWe hope you enjoy our new looser format of recording! We basically just hit record and talk about whatever wedding-related thing comes to us - we love it. In this episode, we canvas a whole heap of topics including but not limited to the following: - How getting the bridesmaids on your side can really help your day go well- Music for your wind-down drive home - Being nice to makeup artists - Driving really far for weddings (and how this gets tiring) And a heap of other stuff! We also use Shutter Tool to check our Sony shutter counts live on air (it's riveting) - - - - - - - - - Your hosts:Greg is based in Northland, New ZealandThom is based in NSW, Australia- - - - - - - - -Sponsors: Studio Ninja - SNAPPENING50 - 50% off first year Queensberry - SNAPPENING19 - 40% off Workspace Pixellu - SNAPPENING15 - 15% off all products Make it Snappen!
After a huge hiatus we're back at the microphones for some more Snappening goodness. Greg is lamenting over his first negative review, Thom is trying to not be so busy and we're both wondering if it's time to go to electric vehicles? - - - - - - - - - Your hosts: Greg is based in Northland, New Zealand Thom is based in NSW, Australia - - - - - - - - -Sponsors: Studio Ninja - SNAPPENING50 - 50% off first year Queensberry - SNAPPENING19 - 40% off Workspace Pixellu - SNAPPENING15 - 15% off all products Make it Snappen!
We're back! It's been so long and we launch straight into the supernatural, cars and Greg has a Lightroom hack. But most importantly, Thom has some real world feedback on how putting his prices on his website has changed his lead numbers and conversion rate!- - - - - - - - -Your hosts: Greg is based in Northland, New Zealand Thom is based in NSW, Australia - - - - - - - - -Sponsors: Studio Ninja - SNAPPENING50 - 50% off first year Queensberry - SNAPPENING19 - 40% off Workspace Pixellu - SNAPPENING15 - 15% off all products Make it Snappen!
G'day Snappers! So this week we chat about an age-old question that has been on photographers' minds for many years. Should we put our prices up on our websites for everyone to see? Or should we ask that potential couples contact us to receive this pricing?- - - - - - - - -Your hosts: Greg is based in Northland, New Zealand Thom is based in NSW, Australia - - - - - - - - -Sponsors: Studio Ninja - SNAPPENING50 - 50% off first year Queensberry - SNAPPENING19 - 40% off Workspace Pixellu - SNAPPENING15 - 15% off all products Make it Snappen!

Hey snappers - we managed to squeeze in an episode before Thom hits the road on his 6 month trip - but we promise we'll be recording as he goes as well. Today we chat about culling... it's the never ending saga of how to do it faster and easier and there are some compelling AI solutions that might be worth looking at. Also, Greg has a new business called Mountain Edits - www.mountainedits.com - which specialises in event and wedding photography editing.
Hey Snappers! It's mid autumn here down under - perfect photographer weather. In episode 140 things get a little heavy; unfortunately Greg recently had a groomsman get a little too touchy feely with him (similar to what happened to Thom last year), making things pretty uncomfortable. In episode 140 we unpack this situation and try to figure out how we could better deal with this if it ever happens again.
Ok listen. Every wedding photographer has a different style. Our industry would be super boring if we all shot in the same way. BUT there are some trends that we at The Snappening just don't like, and one of them is that of intentionally blurry photos. What's up with that?!
G'day Snap-pirates! Episode 138 is busting with beautiful banter. Greg couldn't shoot enough portraits at the wedding, but saved the day by offering the couple a post-wedding shoot. Thom realises some of his wedding terminology wasn't as inclusive as he thought. We chat about best dual-camera harness on the market. And finally, do you want to sell more prints from your galleries? We give you our top tips!
Hey snappers! Well if you know Greg and Thom then you know we love new Mac stuff. Greg in particular is at froth level midnight over the new Mac Studio announcement. We go over the news as well as cover a couple of other things: 1) managing group photos at weddings and 2) a great place to buy memory cards - www.flashtrend.co.nz- - - - - - - - -Your hosts:Greg is based in Northland, New ZealandThom is based in NSW, Australia- - - - - - - - -Sponsors: Studio Ninja - SNAPPENING50 - 50% off first year Queensberry - SNAPPENING19 - 40% off Workspace Pixellu - SNAPPENING15 - 15% off all products Make it Snappen!
SORRY we have been so quiet, snappers! Both Greg and Thom are under the pump right now, with wedding season in full swing. All of 2021's covid postponements seem to have fallen in Feb and March so we're super busy shooting and editing! Greg even did 4 weddings in one day.... Today we chat about the number of hours that makes a perfect amount of coverage. Thom reckons it's 8, while historically Greg has always shot for 10. In episode 136 we discuss how we spend this time on the wedding day - how long we're with each partner during prep, what time we finish. We also talk about ceremony times. SPOILER: if you're shooting weddings, you NEED to tell your couples what time to set their ceremony for - it's in your best interests!
Love this podcast. Hosts are genuinely likable and I've related to so many of the off tangent stories. Small insights into the photography world without being too heavy on anything technical, recommended for professionals in the business and newcomers too. Cheers. Matthew Bright Photography
