On this episode of Watched It in the '80s, I'm joined by Alex of the Field 2 Screen and What Is From podcasts. We stepped up to the plate and took on "Major League" from 1989 which was written and directed by David S. Ward and featured Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen, Corbin Bernsen, and a very young Rene Russo. This movie is an all-time favorite of mine and I'm so glad Alex picked it. The timing is perfect to cover one of the best Baseball Movies of the '80s with the push for the playoffs heating up. It's a feel good movie about a team of "has-been's and never will be's " who pull together and overcome the odds to push to the top and try to win a Pennant for the city of Cleveland. Join Jerry and I as we quest to the mining colony on Jupiter's moon of Io where things are not running as smooth as Sean Connery (Marshall O'Neil) would like. "Outland" was released  in May 1981 and was written and directed by Peter Hyams. Outland received an Oscar nomination for best sound and while not being known as a great Sci-Fi Drama, it has built a big cult following over the decades. If you're like me, and love Sean Connery in roles where he is a good cop in a bad place, then you'll love Outland!Don't forget to rate and review the podcast if you haven't. Hello! In episode 26 of the podcast, We cover "Top Gun" from 1986. That's right, with Top Gun Maverick finally being released in theatres, I felt the need for more speed and went back to the original starring Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, and more. Directed by Tony Scott, Top Gun was the highest grossing film of 1986.Rima from the Strange Indeed podcast and others on the Podcastica network joins ne for the first time on Watched It in the '80s. She is a child of the '80s like me and this movie is one of her favorites. On this episode, Jayme returns for the third installment of the Friday the 13th franchise. Yes Jason is back and looking for more young people to kill in bizarre and entertaining ways. And in true '80s fashion, Friday the 13th part III was released in 3D! Director Steve Minor returns to bring us the continuing, and at the time, what was thought to be the concluding story. If you are curious how and when Jason Vorhees came about wearing his iconic hockey mask, then this movie is a must watch. Here are the links that Jayme mentioned for the panel she attended with Minor and several Jason actors. https://fb.watch/d2HwsHEvDf/https://vmtiktok.com/TTPdmnexyb/Don't forget to rate and review the podcast if you haven't. In episode 24, Jerry and I dive into the deep waters of the classic war drama "Das Boot" or "The Boat".  It was released in the US February 10 1981 and starred Jurgen Prochnow as a veteran German U Boat Captain and Herbert Gronemeyer as a visiting Naval War Correspondent trying to document the true heroic tale of  the U Boat crew, but quickly gets more of a story then he planned. It was also directed by Wolfgang Peterson and was based on the novel written by Lother Buchheim.Don't forget to rate and review the podcast if you haven't. For this episode, Ash Williams is back again at the creepy cabin. Or maybe it's his first time there?  That's right...we are talking Evil Dead 2, not really the sequel to the horror classic "The Evil Dead".  Jayme is also back to help me breakdown Sam Raimi's more comedic attempt at the horror genre. And of course Bruce Campbell is back with a new girlfriend and some other poor souls, to try to make it until dawn or finally beat the evil that lurks in the woods. Whichever comes first. If you miss it on the podcast, Jayme and I will be talking about "Army of Darkness" on the Adrenaline Cinema podcast sometime soon. Don't forget to rate and review the podcast if you haven't. Welcome to the "Double Deuce". Episode double deuce that is. In this one, my friend Tom and I talk about that guilty pleasure/cult classic/really good/really bad movie "Road House". It was released May 19 1989 and featured Patrick Swayze, Ben Gazzara, Sam Elliot and Kelly Lynch. It was directed by Rowdy Herrington and written by R. Lance Hill and Hilary Henkin. As usual, when covering R rated films, sometimes our language drifts that way especially in quotes. So like I don't recommend Road House for 17 and under, I don't recommend this episode of our podcast for young ears. But adults and fans of the movie, hope you enjoy us talking about it. On episode 21 I bring in to cohost one of my favorite podcasters and maybe even my inspiration to get into podcasting, Jason Cabassi of the Podcastica Network.  We revisit the John Hughes classic from 1986 Ferris Bueller's Day Off starring Matthew Broderick.Jason has been podcasting for almost 12 years, but has never discussed his thoughts on this, one of his favorite '80s movies. So it's a joy and an honor to have him with me to do talk about it.Unfortunately, due to technical issues, my audio is terrible....but it's Jason's thoughts that count. He saved the day and it sounds like I'm the guest but whatever. We still had a great time and our discussions were fun.!Don't forget to rate and review the podcast if you haven't. On this special episode, Amelie is back with me as we continue exploring the Dune universe. Writer and Director Denis Villenueve's vision of  Frank Herbert's Dune was released in October 2021 and featured an amazing cast ( Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Furgeson, Oscar Isaac just to name a few )and the music score of Hans Zimmer.  We use a top 5 format in this episode and covered  pretty much every element of the film in doing so.I mentioned an interview with Denis Villenueve so here is the link:https://youtu.be/Wx0SALW3qF8Don't forget to rate and review the podcast if you haven't. Episode 19 of Watched It in the '80s podcast is the epic "Dune" from 1984 starring Kyle MacLachlan and based on the Frank Herbert novel. The amazing story about this movie is writer and director David Lynch disowned all edited versions of the film. Although being a box-office office flop, it has quite a cult following and I appreciate it for how close it was to the novel which I enjoyed very much.New co-host, Amelie, and I had a wonderful time discussing this artistic, sci-fi, fantasy film of the '80s.Don't forget to rate and review the podcast if you haven't. Hello all! This week, Andy and I break down one of the best Science Fiction films of all time. Blade Runner from 1982 starring Harrison Ford and was directed by an up and coming Ridley Scott. This was the first time seeing this movie for both of us although Andy had some knowledge from reading the book it was based on "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?"I really enjoyed this movie and had a lot of fun talking about it with Andy.Just a note on audio....I recorded listener feedback without Andy at a later time so that's why it sounds a little offAlso neglected to mention that the Run For Your Lives Podcast is releasing their podcast on "Jurassic World" so please if you are a fan check that out. Happy Holidays listeners! This episode is my first Christmas themed podcast. Co host Eric and I spread holiday cheer discussing the 1984 dark comedy "Gremlins" written by Chris Columbus, directed by Joe Dante, and was a Stephen Spielberg production. It starred Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates and introduced the world to that little, cute, furry creature "Gizmo". As long as you follow the rules, everything will be fine. But break the rules and your town will be terrorized by little monsters who smoke, drink, and destroy everything. Don't forget to rate and review the podcast if you haven't.
