It’s a quiet spring night in 1990, and three men fox hunting in a secluded area of rural South Georgia stand patiently by their truck. Pulled off the side of a dirt road, they wait silently for the sound of their dogs barking to alert them to game nearby. What they hear instead is a vehicle racing down the road towards them. As the vehicle speeds by, the men hear a woman scream. As this general area is known as a sort of “lover’s lane”, they think nothing much of it. Probably teenagers out having a good time. Not until the next morning when news broke that 18-year-old Rhonda Sue Coleman had gone missing the night before, did the pieces fit together a little more clearly. The scream they heard was not that of a young girl having a good time. It was almost certainly a terrified plea, one last desperate attempt to get someone’s attention. It was a cry for help. Once called “the miracle on the beach,” Synanon began in the 1960s as an experimental rehab facility in Santa Monica, California with a radical claim: It could cure heroin addiction. Before long, it would make an even bolder claim: It could cure any of your problems. All you had to do was move in. What started in a house on the beach, soon spread to compounds across the country. The man who made the miracle happen, Charles E. Dederich, aka “Chuck,” would be the one to destroy it all, along with the lives of many of his followers and millions of dollars in assets. The Sunshine Place tells the mind-blowing, true-story of Synanon - one of America’s most cutting edge social experiments, turned into one of its most dangerous and violent cults - as it’s never been told before: by the people who lived it. Executive Produced by Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey, and Emily Barclay Ford for Team Downey and C13Originals, together with Josh McLaughlin for Wink Pictures and written, produced, and directed by Peabody-nominated C13Originals, a Cadence13 Studio.  Learn more about your ad choices. I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but has anyone looked into her dad? He showed up at the scene and the ex-boyfriend made the comments about her not wearing her bikini around her dad. Seems like it's worth looking into.

Feels like Markey did it! Why else would he have lied about knowing her at all? Why would he have "freaked out" and failed the first poly?
