In this episode, I briefly wrap up my recent February Arctic Fox workshop at the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve in the far north of Iceland and give my thoughts on cold weather gloves for Nature photographers. As a specialist Polar photographer and over the years of trying many different pairs, I have some experience with what works and what doesn't when it comes to shooting in cold climates. If you shoot a Canon EOS R3 or 1 1DXMK3 with the touch-sensitive AF button in cold weather, you are going to want to listen to this podcast.66 North Base Layer Gloves for Photographers  - Works with Canon EOS R3 and Canon EOS 1DX MK3 I.R Back Button FocusHeat 3 Company Gloves - These are ok ; but question mark on the long term durability of the stitching in the liners in my experience. In this episode, I discuss the IT infrastructure and the backup strategies I employ in my photography. Increasingly, I am asked to help specify IT hardware and advise on hardware and backup. Much depends on your individual needs and budget, but this episode should help shed some light on my thoughts and processes regarding this complex issue.BenQ SW272U 4K Adobe RGB Photographic MonitorOWC Thunderblade External SSD Storage SolutionSupport the showWild Nature Photo TravelPhotography Workshops and Expeditions around the Worldwww.wildnaturephototravel.comSupport the Show and fellow Nature Photographer: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/JoshuaHolko/membershipFind us on Social MediaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Joshuaholko/Twitter: https://twitter.com/HolkoJoshuaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshuaholko/Need to Contact us? info@jholko.com

In my Wild Nature Photography Podcast's latest season (season 4) for 2024, I wrap up my just completed January Pallas Cat expedition to Mongolia's eastern Steppe region in Winter. I will have a full written trip report on this expedition in the next few days, along with some photographs, but I wanted to get my initial thoughts down in a podcast while they are still fresh in my mind (2023 Trip Report). I will be returning again to the far east of Mongolia to lead a workshop to photograph these amazing cats in January of 2025. The expedition will run from January 4th to January 10th 2025, and is for those photographers looking to get out into the wilderness to photograph these incredible felines. Drop me an email if you would like more information.Support the showWild Nature Photo TravelPhotography Workshops and Expeditions around the Worldwww.wildnaturephototravel.comSupport the Show and fellow Nature Photographer: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/JoshuaHolko/membershipFind us on Social MediaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Joshuaholko/Twitter: https://twitter.com/HolkoJoshuaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshuaholko/Need to Contact us? info@jholko.com
In this podcast episode, I wrap up my 2023 Antarctica expedition with some initial thoughts on this incredible trip (full trip report coming soon), give my thoughts on a short scouting trip to Easter Island, and review the 2023 Podcast year. Although I did not squeeze in as many Podcasts as I would have liked in 2023, I managed to get a new episode out almost every two weeks with an average of 2.08 (much better than I first thought). The podcast was downloaded across a total of 67 countries over the course of the year, with the USA topping the charts for the most downloads. The most downloaded episode was the Ethical Use of Drones in Wildlife Photography, which was published on the 11th of July, 2023. Of course, I will be endeavouring to improve on those statistics in 2024 with more episodes with even higher quality content. In this episode, I also cover the recently published January 2024 edition of the UK's EOS magazine, which featured my photography on the front cover, as well as an extended feature on my Polar photography. Also recently published was a second feature on my photography in Food and Travel magazine.Support the showWild Nature Photo TravelPhotography Workshops and Expeditions around the Worldwww.wildnaturephototravel.comSupport the Show and fellow Nature Photographer: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/JoshuaHolko/membershipFind us on Social MediaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Joshuaholko/Twitter: https://twitter.com/HolkoJoshuaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshuaholko/Need to Contact us? info@jholko.com
I have just published episode #85 of my Wild Nature Photography Podcast. In this episode, I discuss what equipment I am taking with me to Antarctica next week, as well as my packing strategy and decision not to purchase Canon's new RF10-20mm Lens. This will probably be the last podcast before I depart for Antarctica next week - although I will do my best to get in my review of either Volume 8 of Bird Photographer of the Year or Vincent Munier's new retrospective 'Munier'.Support the showWild Nature Photo TravelPhotography Workshops and Expeditions around the Worldwww.wildnaturephototravel.comSupport the Show and fellow Nature Photographer: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/JoshuaHolko/membershipFind us on Social MediaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Joshuaholko/Twitter: https://twitter.com/HolkoJoshuaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshuaholko/Need to Contact us? info@jholko.com

I have just published episode #83 of my Wild Nature Photography Podcast. In this long overdue episode (apologies for the significant delay), I give my thoughts on two new Canon Lenses, the RF 10-20mm and the yet-to-be-officially-announced 200-800mm telephoto lens (look for the official announcement of this lens in the next few days). I also briefly discuss the new HDR feature in the latest version of Adobe Lightroom and the excellent new Point Colour / HSL local adjustment capability that is now available inside the individual masking tools in Lightroom. I also give my initial impressions of the 8th edition of the Bird Photographer of the Year annual book (includes three of my commended photographs) and Scott Portelli's new Antarctica book (reviews of both will be coming in future podcast episodes). Additionally, I provide details of my upcoming webinar for BenQ on post-production. This webinar will be held on the 8th of November and is free (you just need to register). I also discuss the main topic of this episode: what happens when serendipity meets technology and my experience photographing the European Pygmy Owl in near total darkness in northern Finland with the Canon EOS R3 and Canon RF600mm f4L IS USM lens. By way of preview, the European Pygmy Owl will be the November photograph of the month for 2023.Adobe Lightroom HDR Feature Explanatory NoteBird Photographer of the YearBenQ Webinar on Post ProductionEuropean Pygmy Owl PhotographSupport the showWild Nature Photo TravelPhotography Workshops and Expeditions around the Worldwww.wildnaturephototravel.comSupport the Show and fellow Nature Photographer: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/JoshuaHolko/membershipFind us on Social MediaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Joshuaholko/Twitter: https://twitter.com/HolkoJoshuaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshuaholko/Need to Contact us? info@jholko.com

In this episode, I provide an update on the two wildlife workshops I am leading in North Finland for Wolves, Bears, Golden Eagles and other wildlife. I have just published episode #81 of my Wild Nature Photography Podcast. In this episode, I discuss my packing strategy for Finland, Greenland and Iceland workshops that kick off next month in September 2023. Some challenges come with packing for both a dedicated wildlife trip (Finland), a mixed wildlife and landscape trip (Greenland) and a dedicated landscape extension trip (Iceland). As a result, the lenses for these trips comprise almost exclusively of zooms. The Highlands of Iceland Workshop 2025 with Daniel BergmannCanberra Photo Connect Presentation Support the showWild Nature Photo TravelPhotography Workshops and Expeditions around the Worldwww.wildnaturephototravel.comSupport the Show and fellow Nature Photographer: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/JoshuaHolko/membershipFind us on Social MediaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Joshuaholko/Twitter: https://twitter.com/HolkoJoshuaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshuaholko/Need to Contact us? info@jholko.com

In this podcast episode, I compare and review two very different solutions by two competing companies to protect expensive telephoto lenses when out in the field - Lens Coat and AlphaGVRD. Lens Coat offers its traditional neoprene cover solution, and AlphaGVRD provides a more contemporary 3M Wrap. Which is best and why? Listen in for my thoughts and impressions on fitment, durability, ease of use, investment price and ultimately, my thoughts and impressions on which is best and why.Lens Coat Neoprene Lens Protection AlphaGVRD 3M Wrap Lens ProtectionFinland Wild Wolves of the Taiga Forest Workshop DetailsSupport the showWild Nature Photo TravelPhotography Workshops and Expeditions around the Worldwww.wildnaturephototravel.comSupport the Show and fellow Nature Photographer: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/JoshuaHolko/membershipFind us on Social MediaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Joshuaholko/Twitter: https://twitter.com/HolkoJoshuaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshuaholko/Need to Contact us? info@jholko.com
In this episode, I discuss my thoughts and impressions of the scouting trip I just completed to Barrow, Alaska and photography of the birds that inhabit the extensive Arctic Tundra in this region. The purpose of this scouting trip was to explore the potential for a future workshop in this far-flung region of Alaska, both from a photographic and infrastructure perspective. I will have a full written trip report with photographs in the next few weeks on my return to Australia. In the meantime, this podcast covers my initial thoughts and impressions on this ten-day experience.Support the showWild Nature Photo TravelPhotography Workshops and Expeditions around the Worldwww.wildnaturephototravel.comSupport the Show and fellow Nature Photographer: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/JoshuaHolko/membershipFind us on Social MediaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Joshuaholko/Twitter: https://twitter.com/HolkoJoshuaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshuaholko/Need to Contact us? info@jholko.com
