In this episode I spent some time right up front giving you a few updates about Lutheran Answers and the future of the podcast and website. Afterwards I answered questions that people have submitted! Is the COVID-19 Vaccine the Mark of the Beast? Do Lutherans have Monasteries or Convents? Is COVID-19 a judgement from God?This is a shorter episode because it's just me. But stay tuned for next week! I have a great interview scheduled. In this episode of Lutheran Answers, I had the pleasure of sitting down and having a very thoughtful and encouraging conversation with Mr. Zack Houghton. Zack, who goes by @ZDHoughton on Twitter, graduated from a Reformed Baptist Seminary with a Master's Degree in Pastoral Leadership and was a Baptist minister for some time before being convinced of the Lutheran Confessions. Today you can hear us discuss Baptist theology, Mr. Houghton's personal journey, and the comfort that the confessional Lutheran view of Christian theology truly brings. And, keep your ear open to the beginning! You'll hear pretty early on (about the 7 minute mark) a cut in the audio. That's because a storm blew over my town briefly and knocked my power out! I was actually off the call immediately after asking Zack a question. Thanks to Riverside.FM we didn't lose any audio, despite my entire computer shutting off! That's because Riverside uploads each participant's audio and video individually. This allows for higher quality audio and video and avoids interruptions - even if the host drops off the call like I did!If you would like to check out Riverside.FM, please do so using my affiliate link. Pastor Joe is on vacation and I was asked to give the message today in his place. We're using the Historic One Year which gives us the following texts:Matthew 7:15-23A Tree and Its Fruit“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.I Never Knew You“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’Jeremiah 23:16-29Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, filling you with vain hopes. They speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord. They say continually to those who despise the word of the Lord, ‘It shall be well with you’; and to everyone who stubbornly follows his own heart, they say, ‘No disaster shall come upon you.’”For who among them has stood in the council of the Lord    to see and to hear his word,    or who has paid attention to his word and listened?Behold, the storm of the Lord!    Wrath has gone forth,a whirling tempest;    it will burst upon the head of the wicked. The anger of the Lord will not turn back    until he has executed and accomplished    the intents of his heart. In the latter days you will understand it clearly.“I did not send the prophets,    yet they ran;I did not speak to them,    yet they prophesied. But if they had stood in my council,    then they would have proclaimed my words to my people, and they would have turned them from their evil way,    and from the evil of their deeds.“Am I a God at hand, declares the Lord, and not a God far away? Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord. I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in my name, saying, ‘I have dreamed, I have dreamed!’ How long shall there be lies in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies, and who prophesy the deceit of their own heart, who think to make my people forget my name by their dreams that they tell one another, even as their fathers forgot my name for Baal? Let the prophet who has a dream tell the dream, but let him who has my word speak my word faithfully. What has straw in common with wheat? declares the Lord. Is not my word like fire, declares the Lord, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?Acts 20:27-38Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=KLHPX6MLDJFQE)
This was my very first interview on my old Podcast Forged in Babylon. I was blessed to reach out to Reverend Jonathan Fisk and actually hear back from him! We set up a time and date and I interviewed him about self-improvement in Christianity. We talk about what it's like to be Christian in this world, being the best we can be, and what the Bible says about true Wisdom.  It was a wonderful time and I truly enjoyed getting to interact with Rev. Fisk. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed recording it!Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=KLHPX6MLDJFQE)
In this episode I am joined by Jesse Westwood, who spent several years at the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry (BSSM). Jesse recounts his time there, the kinds of things he saw, and the odd practices that people engaged in, and what brought him out of it all. We discuss the comforts of confessional Lutheranism and our shared perspective of what it is like to leave Charismatic American Christianity and go towards a classic and historic approach to Christianity.Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=KLHPX6MLDJFQE)
In this fresh tasty episode I spent an hour speaking with Roman Catholic @Literally_Chad about Tim Sledge's (@Goodbye_Jesus) book "Four Disturbing Questions with One Simple Answer" - a book that supposedly no Christian can get through without doubting their faith.Unsurprisingly we both made it through. I hope you enjoy this episode!Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=KLHPX6MLDJFQE)
I was asked to speak at my church this Sunday because Pastor Joe was going out of town. The lectionary reading for the day was Luke 5:1-11Jesus Calls the First Disciples5 On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. 3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. 4 And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” 6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. 7 They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. 8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” 9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, 10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” 11 And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=KLHPX6MLDJFQE)

Buzzers: River House

I'm reuploading another archive episode of Buzzers! This time I go through a sermon from a local church called The River House! It's awful. If you don't know how the game works, we listen to a sermon or prophecy or otherwise supposedly Christian piece of audio and stop it every so often to interject jokes, quips, or obnoxious sound effects. These things denote that what you've just heard is actually heresy, and not Christianity.Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=KLHPX6MLDJFQE)
Welcome back to everyone's favorite game show: Buzzers! Where we play obnoxious sound effects whenever a pastor, preacher, or teacher says something blatantly heretical. Today we revisit Pastor Stacey Long at The River House Church in Fayetteville, NC, and his sermon on why women should wear head coverings. Wait, no, I'm sorry. His sermon is actually on why those passages of the Bible don't count, can be safely ignored, and why women can be pastors.Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=KLHPX6MLDJFQE)

Buzzers: Kay Nash

I've dug into my old audio archives and to bring back the show Buzzers! In this (re-aired) episode I take on a "prophecy" from the YouTube channel of Kay Nash, making sure to hit her with that sweet, sweet buzzer sound every time she says something incorrect. It's a lot of fun and I thought you guys would enjoy it!Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=KLHPX6MLDJFQE)
