In Episode 6, Part 2 of our discussion with Natasha Jager of the Alcohol and Drug Foundation, we look more closely at party drugs and prescription drugs.
Natasha Jager of the Australian Drug Foundation join’s Siobhan and Kevin in conversation about the safety management issues related to alcohol and drugs. We’ll be discussing the legal, business and union perspectives on drug and alcohol testing, and also take a look at what could be the “sleeper issue” – the links between alcohol and drug use and workplace psychological/mental illness issues.
In Episode 5, Siobhan and Kevin talk about National Safety Month and also discuss some of the hot-button safety issues raised at conferences they have both attended recently as part of ‘Safety Conference Season’.
Episode four discusses “disruption” (Kevin hates this word) and asks if we can continue to keep people safe at workplaces that are no longer full of “employees” but rather, they are comprised of “workers”,some of whom are employees and many of whom are contractors, labour hire,air-taskers and many variations on a theme. Some of these workers will rarely if ever, come to a central workplace – and if your workplace does not look like Orwellian vision, then your business is, or will, soon be competing with a business that does and decisions will be made consciously or by default .The issue cannot be avoided. Can our laws cope?  What should safety leaders do?
Episode 3 features a discussion about a major buzzword in WHS — safety culture.
Episode Two features a stark comparison of legal and non-legal views about responsibility for safety and exposes the limitations of both approaches. The discussiondemonstrates the very different mechanics of the safety consultant’s mind andthe lawyer’s mind and considers what this means for compliance.
Episode one includes a discussion about workplace psychological health and responses to it, including Resilience training and potential offered by using the National Standard of Canada’s “Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace Standard”.
