Anselm of Canterbury (c.1033-1109)
Anselm was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1093. He wrote extensively, systematic works, prayers and meditations and letters. …… “I do not seek to understand that I may believe, but I believe that I may understand: for this I also believe, that unless I believe I will not understand”……
When I read the Prayer of St Anselm I had to make it into a song, the words are simple yet profound…
Thanks to Deb for singing this so beautifully.
Maybe your mountain top is to close your eyes and rest in His presence.
Maybe your mountain top evades you when the weather of life closes in around you.
Be encouraged, go step by step. Even if you do not get far up the mountain, let it be an intentional choice to get on the mountain.
From Song of Songs 8:6-7
Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm;
for love is strong as death, passion fierce as the grave.
Its flashes are flashes of fire, a raging flame.
Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it.
If one offered for love all the wealth of one’s house, it would be utterly scorned
One thing I ask of the Lord………..
………. cries my heart – this is what I seek, to dwell in the house of the Lord all my days, to gaze only upon the beauty of the LORD and to ever live in his presence. Psalm 27:4-5
His presence is in the quietness of a sanctuary set aside to worship him…
and in the beauty of the sky …..
The freshness of the breeze…
The streams of sunlight dancing on the water…
The clearness of a star filled night sky…
The crashing of the waves on the shore…
The dawn breaking….
The sun setting…
......light from above draws your eyes to the sky.....
.....The pace has slowed.....colours are brighter....scents are stronger....the air is pure.....just to be....stillness...solitude...life's beautiful rhythm...
.....when your heart just longs to hear the voice of the one who loves you....
....... a day when the depth of sadness takes you by surprise......
...early in February a little Star dropped out of heaven.......it took over 24 hours......this is what it sounded like....
condensed into 14 minutes........
......take some time out to be thankful.....for this new day.......for who you have in your life......for what is happening in your life..........for the beauty of creation......for love, laughter and the joy of living.....and that there is always more......life
.......a warm gentle breeze, beautiful blue sky, a lazy, hazy Autumn day......
........a life remembered
As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field;
for the wind passes over it, and it is gone..... Ps 103:15-16a
