Description

Classic Guitar airs every fourth Friday of the month at 8pm and is presented by Alan Dixon and Paul Zdrenka (both graduates in classical guitar). The programme showcases the best of classical guitar music by world-renowned artists.

Paul graduated from Massey University, now part of the New Zealand School of Music, and Alan spent time in the UK studying with William Lloyd Webber at the London College of Music.

Alan and Paul have had diverse careers that include playing big band jazz, as wedding musicians, as school teachers, sound recording and now radio broadcasting. Alan is a now a full time guitar teacher in Christchurch, and Paul is the Technical Coordinator at Plains FM.

The programme is brought to you by the Christchurch Guitar Society which has been around now for more than 40 years and must be one of Christchurch’s best kept secrets! The society promotes and encourages all forms of acoustic guitar playing, and has in the past held its own summer schools here in Christchurch.

The society also host concerts for visiting guitarists such as The NZ Guitar Quartet, Gunter Herbig, John Couch and Matt Withers, as well as their own annual Society concert each May.
