Infected Rain INFECTED RAIN experienced their most successful years yet in 2022 and 2023, commencing with the release of their fifth full-length album, Ecdysis. The album garnered prime media acclaim, hundreds of thousands of streams and views, and debuted in the Top 20 on the US Current Hard Music charts - all accented by worldwide performances at major festivals and with the likes of Butcher Babies, Wednesday 13 and more. On February 9, 2024, the band will climb even higher with their multifaceted sixth album, TIME. Described by the multinational band as “an homage to every fleeting second, every heartbeat, and every breath that has led us to this moment,” TIME was once again produced, mixed and mastered by Valentin Voluta, and combines the deft talents of returning members Vidick (guitars, cover artist), Eugene Voluta (drums) and famed frontwoman Lena Scissorhands (vocals), plus introduces new member Alice Lane (bass) to the fold. INFECTED RAIN exercise their trademarks with TIME, tastefully accenting the introspective musical journey with effectively-placed progressive, electronic and even nu-metal features amid ethereal passages. First track “BECAUSE I LET YOU” bursts in with undeniable energy, boasting aggressive lyrics and Lena Scissorhands’ swift, menacing delivery. Previously released first single “DYING LIGHT” marches with subterranean heaviness and rhythmic grooves beneath eerie vocals and keys, and even snaps into an EDM passage, showcasing the dynamic delivery of the band in 2024. “NEVER TO RETURN” flirts with trip-hop elements and far eastern instrumentation before the melodic ode to self-empowerment “LIGHTHOUSE” crashes in to juxtapose soft verses and intense auditory shifts. Album standout and djent driven “VIVARIUM” warns of society’s fickle freedoms as Lena Scissorhands delivers some of the album’s most hair-raising screams amid a haunting, ominous atmosphere, while fast-paced burners like “THE ANSWER IS YOU” and “ENMITY” flash between various EDM, synthwave and even drum and bass brushed transits amid bludgeoning rhythms. Intense “GAME OF BLAME” explores themes of hypocrisy and emotional pain delved out by those we love while boasting one of the album’s most searing breakdowns, while tracks like “PANDEMONIUM” and “UNPREDICTABLE” detail the uncontrollable energy of the future and past, respectively - boasting lofty, angelic verses with hard-hitting guitars and punching drums. Italian/English-language journey “PAURA” closes out the album with a path to self-discovery - beckoning the listener to understand that we limit ourselves with our own fears, and must harness the pain to overcome. TIME ends in a state of calm with ambient finisher “A SECOND OR A THOUSAND YEARS” - drawing the curtains closed on yet another fantastic, experimental expedition by rising stars INFECTED RAIN. https://www.infectedrain.com https://label.napalmrecords.com/infectedrain https://infectedrain.bandcamp.com _ Date: 7 March 2024 Voices: Lena | Arthur  Notes: recorded on a tour bus; before the gig at Gasometer Cover Photo: Interceptor Beyond _ Interceptor Beyond Podcast Website: https://www.interceptorbeyond.com  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/interceptorbeyond Hashtags: #interceptorbeyond #interceptorbeyondpodcast #infectedrain
Brume (pronounced ‘Broom’) are living proof that California is not all sunshine and easy living. The San Francisco-based quartet organically blends doom metal, goth, and indie rock into a sometimes monolithic, sometimes delicate blend of heaviness that resides firmly on the darker side. After a decade of sultry sounds and hair-raising crescendos, Brume push sonic experimentation and delightful genre-bending even further on their third full-length album “Marten”. The expansion into a four-piece with the addition of Jackie Perez Gratz on cello and vocals has opened a cosmos of new possibilities that the Californians determinedly explore. Weaving soaring melodies over melancholic doom pop generates songs that are equally intimate and haunting yet also massive and crushing. Brume originally formed as a trio in 2014 when guitarist Jamie McCathie from Bristol, England began making music with bass player and vocalist Susie McMullan from Baton Rouge, Louisiana after discovering a shared passion for both trip-hop and sludge. The addition of Jordan Perkins-Lewis on drums completed the line-up with his rich and experimental style of drumming, and set the stage for the band’s recordings. The trio quickly gained momentum with their doom metal albums “Rooster” (2017) and “Rabbits” (2019), the former being named “Album of the Year” by The Ripple Effect and the latter earning the top spot on Wonderbox Metal’s “Best of 2019” list. Brume also left their mark onstage, appearing at Desertfest London in 2017 and Desertfest New York and SXSW in 2019, along with many more shows on both sides of the Atlantic. On third album “Marten”, Brume perfectly balance the melancholic power of the cello with forceful vocals and dueling guitar conversations. The complex mood swings that seamlessly move from sensuous and restrained to soaring and explosive found a perfect producer in Sonny DiPerri (Emma Ruth Rundle, Lord Huron, Portugal The Man). With the right engineer behind the board, the San Franciscans adopted a songwriting approach that emphasised poetry and lyrics rather than starting with a riff. This way of working uncovered a more vulnerable side of the band. With “Marten”, Brume take a bold step toward their musical future by challenging first themselves and now listeners to move from comfortable spaces toward more challenging, less familiar destinations. http://brumeband.com Cover by General LLC Recording date: March 2, 2024 People present: Jamie | Jordan | Arthur Notes: recorded on Zoom _ Interceptor Beyond Podcast Website: https://www.interceptorbeyond.com  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/interceptorbeyond

SKYND We all conceal something behind the earthly façade we show to the world. Maybe it's an unspoken fetish. Perhaps it's a covetous urge. Or it could just be the kind of darkness we acknowledge in passing —but don't dare reference out loud. SKYND peel back those layers and uncover what lurks beneath in all of its painful glory. The industrialized gothic electronic duo — Skynd [lead vocals] and "Father" [producer, multi-instrumentalist] —exorcize beauty by bloodletting as they mine some of history’s most baffling, bizarre, and brutal crimes across their EPs. https://skynd-music.com/ https://www.youtube.com/c/skynd https://skynd.bandcamp.com/ https://open.spotify.com/artist/3Ca8UhvMDcgM1zyfAZGw3M _ Intro music: The Funk - Qubesounds _ Send your opinions, comments and suggestions to podcast@interceptorbeyond.com

HOWLING GIANT Every song on HOWLING GIANT's sophomore album "Glass Future" tells its own story. Yet even without an overarching concept, all could exist within the same universe. Such crafty lyrical world-building is hardly surprising coming from a trio of enthusiastic fantasy and science fiction aficionados. "Glass Future" downright asks to inspire a book or graphic novel, even as it explodes with furious energy and thunderous acrobatics. Musically, "Glass Future" offers a continuation and evolution of all the elements that made the debut album "The Space Between Worlds" (2019) such a success. HOWLING GIANT entice classic metal and hard rock to interact dynamically with spacy, prog-infused passages, desert and psychedelic metal moments, rock organs, catchy hooks, and top everything off with soaring harmonized vocals. HOWLING GIANT hail from one of the most legendary places for music on earth: Nashville, Tennessee, USA. Despite the city's reputation for assembly-line pop country, the town called Music City is a place of deep history, where brilliant songwriters and virtuoso session players keep dozens of musical legacies burning bright. Fertile ground, then, for a preeminent fuzz-psych power trio who consciously live in the pocket of that lineage. During the last two years, the trio integrated bassist Sebastian Baltes, the son of German metal legends ACCEPT's former bass player Peter Baltes, fully into the band as a co-writer. HOWLING GIANT take a gargantuan leap forward with "Glass Future" that brings their outstanding musicianship and golden-throated triple vocal attack fully into stride. Nothing to do but try to keep up and enjoy the stunning sonic scenery along the way! Intro music: The Funk - Qubesounds _ Send your opinions, comments and suggestions to podcast@interceptorbeyond.com
Coogans Bluff From the very start they’ve been critically acclaimed yet so many have failed to put the right genre tag on them. It hardly seems possible to find an adequate classification for their music with so many epochs and styles floating in, that’s for sure. Every album bears new influences, highlights certain musical parts and lets others move further to the background – or disappear completely. Krautrock, Progressive, Fusion, Spacerock, Psychedelic and Bluesrock – it’s all part of the routing. Even Stonerrock, Funk and Heavy-something if you count in older material
HEAVY TEMPLE are back from extensively touring across the United States and for the first time also Europe. They are also back from the rehearsal room where the making of new songs became far more of a group effort than on the debut album. And finally back from Animal Farm studio where John Forrestal gave the new album "Garden of Heathens" a rich and warm organic sound that is also crisp and crystalline. Where the debut full-length "Lupi Amoris" charged forward like a roaring mastodon, "Garden of Heathens" comes across more diverse and sophisticated without losing punch or heaviness. And while the powerful vocals of frontwoman High Priestess Nighthawk provide a strong gravitational pull, HEAVY TEMPLE always remain a riff-first kind of band. Even so, the heavy-touring Philadelphia, PA trio have expanded their range to encompass an even wider breadth of rock and metal road stops, from BARONESS to THE BEATLES and BLACK SABBATH to FU MANCHU – with many crossroads in between. Lyrically, Nighthawk wrote her most personal lines so far as the album revolves thematically around things that aren't real – from the American Dream to relationships. No matter how shiny something looks, below the surface lurk anxiety, betrayal, and doubt. HEAVY TEMPLE came into existence on the 2012 winter solstice during a night filled with the pure enjoyment of creating and playing heavy music. Once established, the band started playing live and soon got to tour alongside such notables as RUBY THE HATCHET, ROYAL THUNDER, and CORROSION OF CONFORMITY and they also got to play at notable festivals such as The Maryland Doom Fest and Psycho Las Vegas among many others. Following the two EPs "Heavy Temple” (2014) and "Chassit" (2016) and a number of singles, HEAVY TEMPLE at last took a break from heavy touring to record their first full-length. "Lupi Amoris" (“Wolves of Love”) that was released in 2021 to strong applause from both critics and followers alike. This album opened new doors including more festival appearances, a US tour with THE OBSESSED and their first tour of Europe with friends and labelmates HOWLING GIANT. HEAVY TEMPLE are not just back, they are here to stay. "Garden of Heathens" gives strong testimony that the trio is pushing hard to broaden their spectrum and break through any preconceptions and obstacles in front of them. "Garden of Heathens" sheds new light and a wider perspective on heavy and desert rock, psychedelia, and doom metal. Hippie Death Cult Hippie Death Cult's journey through shameless and triumphant artistic expression has led them to become a vibrant force in the realms of psychedelia and riff-heavy rock n' roll. Throughout their formative years, the band underwent what proved to be a very significant evolution, transitioning from a 4-piece to a more cohesive and harmonious power trio. This lineup currently consists of guitarist and founder Eddie Brnabic, vocalist and bassist Laura Phillips, and drummer Harry Silvers. In 2019, Hippie Death Cult caught the attention of Cursed Tongue Records, who signed them for the release of their highly anticipated album "111." The record was met with widespread acclaim, solidifying their place in the music scene. Building on this success, the band made another significant move in 2021 by signing with Heavy Psych Sounds Records. This partnership resulted in the release of their album "Circle of Days" and a split release titled "Doom Sessions Vol.5" with label mates High Reeper. Both full-length albums soared to the very top of the Doom Charts as well as many “Album Of The Year” lists, further cementing their status as a rising force in the genre. Beyond their studio work, Hippie Death Cult is renowned for their electrifying and passionate stage performances. Their captivating stage presence have taken them on tours across the United States, Canada, and Europe, where they have garnered a dedicated and growing fanbase. https://www.hippiedeathcultband.com https://hippiedeathcult.bandcamp.com https://open.spotify.com/artist/4IZavjyt6nf7m5fq31pjXl https://www.facebook.com/hippiedeathcultband https://www.instagram.com/hippiedeathcultband _ Intro music: The Funk - Qubesounds
Blackwater Holylight Blackwater Holylight, as the name suggests, is all about contrasts. It’s a fluid convergence of sound that’s heavy, psychedelic, melodic, terrifying and beautiful all at once. As a heavy band, their songs aren’t anchored to riffs, but rather riffs come and go in waves that surface throughout the band’s meditative, entrancing songs. It’s a hypnotic sound, with orchestral structures that often build tension and intrigue before turning the song on its head — not by simply getting louder or heavier, nor by just layering elements. They expertly subvert the implied heaviness of a part, dissecting it and splaying the songs guts out to seep across the sonic spectrum. https://www.blackwaterholylight.com https://blackwaterholylight.bandcamp.com/ https://www.instagram.com/blackwaterholylight https://www.facebook.com/blackwaterholylight IRON JINN Iron Jinn are Oeds Beydals (The Devils Blood/Molassess/Death Alley), Wout Kemkens (Shaking Godspeed/De Niemanders), Bob Hogenelst (Birth of Joy/Molassess) and Gerben Bielderman (Pauw) and their debut full length on Stickman Records (21st of April 2023) is a frantic album that follows the logic of a dream; none. The nine songs on the album are the result of a chaotic accumulation of modern world impressions, information and conversations that are forcefully pushed through a human funnel: the minds of Iron Jinn. https://ironjinn.bandcamp.com/ https://www.instagram.com/iron_jinn https://www.facebook.com/ironjinn Timecodes: 00:00 - Intro 01:24 - Blackwater Holylight 21:47 - IRON JINN Intro music: The Funk - Qubesounds _ Send your opinions, comments and suggestions to podcast@interceptorbeyond.com
Timecodes: 00:00 - Intro 01:09 - MARES OF THRACE 23:23 - Slat’ 39:25 - TarLung MARES OF THRACE  Canadian mixed-race mixed-gender two-piece Mares of Thrace deal in a brand of heaviness that draws as much from noise rock and hardcore as it does from the doom metal they’re commonly grouped with. Their three critically-acclaimed releases have been punctuated with international tours, where their live show has gained a reputation for what Absolute Underground Magazine described as “[sounding] like there are at least five people onstage”. Founded in 2009 by Trez (vocals, guitar) and Stef (drums), Mares released their debut The Moulting in 2010, where it topped campus radio charts and was hailed by PopMatters as “superb”; they signed to Canada’s Sonic Unyon Records shortly thereafter. 2012’s The Pilgrimage was produced by Sanford Parker (Voivod, Yob) and praised by Pitchfork, Decibel, and Terrorizer, as well as a nod from Canada’s prestigious Polaris Prize. After several North American tours, a long hiatus followed; they re-emerged in 2022 with Trez remaining at the helm, and long-standing Mares friend and collaborator Casey on drums, bass, and electronics. 2022’s The Exile was deemed by many reviewers as their finest work to date; Decibel praised its “nuance, vulnerability, and maturity”, and AngryMetalGuy called it “the sound of a band in its prime, not one just slinking back in from the cold”. Like the first 3 records, the raging two-minute bonfires that make up Free LSD were written by the core of the band, Keith Morris & Dimitri Coats. The album introduces new members, drummer Justin Brown (Thundercat, Flying Lotus, Herbie Hancock) and bassist Autry Fulbright II (...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead), who push the idea of punk into another dimension. Coats blankets a number of these tracks with layers of electronics and Morris sounds timeless. **A Reminder! The next live “Interceptor Beyond Show” as a part of BLACK RABBIT event is happening on July 15th at Arena Beisl.** The Melvins It's no overstatement to say the Melvins thoroughly reformulated the sound of heavy guitar music in America in both the punk underground and the hard-rock mainstream. This is no small feat, considering that the band—cofounded by guitarist Buzz Osborne and drummer Dale Crover in Montesano, WA, in 1983—have always been unconventional cult artists. Across their first five full-lengths, from 1987's Gluey Porch Treatments to 1993's Houdini, they developed a grinding synthesis of Black Sabbath-inspired metal and hardcore punk aggression that influenced not only Nirvana and grunge but also sludge, stoner rock, doom, and drone metal. The Melvins aren't just heavy, however: They're weird and irreverent, too. You can hear it in Osborne's gnarled bellows and absurdist lyrics. That sensibility also explains why their records—especially those released after hooking up with Mike Patton's Ipecac label in 1999—boast such wildly different personalities. Their 2004 collaboration with industrial pioneer Lustmord descends into dark ambient; by contrast, 2018's Pinkus Abortion Technician is a slab of '70s rock worship featuring Butthole Surfers legend Jeff Pinkus on bass. There's real freedom in the Melvins' unpredictability, and it's just as central to their legacy as all their brilliantly crawling riffs and thunderous grooves.  https://www.themelvins.net/ https://www.instagram.com/melvinsdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/melvinsarmy https://open.spotify.com/artist/6aVjo0xHSiuW5hkasoYSR3 - Cover photo by https://www.instagram.com/belialcricetinae/ _ Don’t forget to follow this podcast everywhere you get your podcasts.
