Description

Beginning January 2019: This feed is a dedicated feed for reruns. Once a month, we will pick an episode from our backlog and share it anew. Usually this will be from the Channel 1 backlog, but occasionally we'll pull from Channel F, or from any future shows we do (aka "Channels"), so long as the original episode does not exceed 2hrs. Sometimes I will tack a new prelude or special announcement onto the front of an episode, but usually it'll just be the original content unmodified. But please stay subbed to the feed, as there is a lot of excellent content in the backlog to either explore for the first time, or to revisit. I think you will enjoy the look back! :-)Nerd Noise Radio - your home for the best Noise from the YM2612/SN76489, SPC700, 2A03, HuC6280, AY-3-8910, YM2151, LR35902, POKEY, PAULA, SID, and beyond!

Reverse
The second of two "special make up session" episodes to compensate you for the lack of April and May reruns. Though this one is "TECHNICALLY" a rerun, since it originally released a month ago, it is effectively "not a rerun" because it is still the most recent all-new production from Nerd Noise Radio. I would've uploaded it on the same day it came out, but the previous episode had taken up the month's content limit. So this was as early as I could get it to you. As such, I hope you'll consider it an "honorary non-rerun". :-) It's a "Nerd Noise Radio - Channel 2" episode, which you've heard once before, and so you know how VERY different a show it is from Channel 1. Enjoy!-------------------------------------------------------------------Today’s Broadcast is C2E4, for Theme Thursday, June 24th, 2021. Today’s theme will be summery and seasonal music on a program we’re calling “Summer Jams”. SPECIAL NOTE TO RERUNS FEED LISTENER: I owe you a tremendous apology! I usually schedule reruns ahead of time a month or two ahead, and so, there exists the possibility that I'll get confused on whether or not I have done so for a given month, and miss one. To make up for that, and since today's episode is a very special occasion, I figured I'd do something special and share something that's not a rerun, but an actual fresh episode! Today's [all-new] episode is a 40th birthday celebration of a listener, and someone very important to me: my brother, Jesse! Enjoy! Also, since Buzzsprout character limits for episode descriptions are so restrictive, the tracklist by itself without any notes exceeds it. Therefore, I'll have to resort to attaching it as a Google Docs link. You can find that link here:https://docs.google.com/document/d/190vQT3p3zkxWudP0_aelkuiXGPaI_U0zyHXOW3lVww4/edit?usp=sharingHowever, so that you at least have clickable timestamps, here's just a "Track 1" style generic list with timestamps:Intro - 00:00:00Track 01 - 00:04:11Track 02 - 00:06:21Track 03 - 00:08:21Track 04 - 00:10:13Track 05 - 00:12:08Track 06 - 00:16:05Track 07 - 00:18:27Track 08 - 00:19:08Track 09 - 00:20:54Track 10 - 00:22:23Track 11 - 00:24:22Track 12 - 00:25:52Track 13 - 00:27:13Track 14 - 00:30:23Track 15 - 00:31:47Track 16 - 00:36:26Track 17 - 00:39:37Track 18 - 00:41:44Track 19 - 00:44:46Track 20 - 00:46:05Track 21 - 00:47:09Track 22 - 00:47:48Track 23 - 00:49:38Track 24 - 00:51:42Track 25 - 00:53:48Track 26 - 00:56:57Track 27 - 00:59:45Track 28 - 01:03:29Track 29 - 01:06:16Track 30 - 01:08:07Track 31 - 01:11:50Track 32 - 01:14:33Track 33 - 01:17:48Track 34 - 01:19:30Track 35 - 01:21:28Track 36 - 01:23:06Track 37 - 01:25:03Track 38 - 01:27:41Track 39 - 01:30:58Track 40 - 01:33:53Outro - 01:37:25Bonus - 01:53:57Lastly, I think I'll also do something special for you next month. We will continue to broadcast reruns, only that service will now be consolidated into the main Nerd Noise Radio feed, along with the ongoing all new Channel 1, Channel 2, and Channel F releases. You can find the main Nerd Noise Radio podcast feed here:    https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/nerd-noise-radio/id1191401173    You will also be able to find the same content as the main feed on Spotify, Stitcher, TuneIn, iHeartRadio, Pandora, and Vurbl, and of course, we’ll still be around on social media, the Blog, Archive.org, and reachable by email. In fact, since the last time I updated you on the state of Nerd Noise Radio, the Blog, and especially Archive have been reworked to feature the occasional additional content only available there. The Nerd Noise Radio YouTube channel is dormant currently, but will be making a comeback – hopefully in 2021.    It is my SINCEREST hope that we will not lose a single one of you to the shutdown of the Buzzsprout feed, and that we will see each and every one of you over on the main feed and/or through the other outlets. But whether you make it over or not, please accept my tremendous gratitude for sticking with me the past four years and into this fifth year of Nerd Noise Radio. The show never would’ve been what it has been were it not for you, the listener    And for those who do come over and stick with us, I hope you will enjoy what we have in store. The plan is to continue Nerd Noise Radio through Channel 1 Episode 100, which at our adjusted release schedule, should take us all the way through the end of calendar 2026. So, quite a bit of time left to enjoy each other’s company on our great sonic journey through the winding, twisting, sloping waves....of delicious VGM!    Hope to see you there!    Cheers!    -St. John (Nerd Noise Radio)   p.s. Something special planned for December. So don't unsub just yet. :-)

Also, if you do submit tracks, please remember to indicate whether you wish to lend your voice to recording the intro and outro, or if you just want to submit tracks. Either answer is fine, but please do let me know. Lastly, while submissions longer than five tracks are VERY welcome, if you're going to do so, maybe break it into "must make it" tracks (max five), and "would be nice if" tracks, so I know what to prioritize, and also have flexibility between many contributors or few. NOTE: Timestamps will be about two minutes off because of the addition of the earcatcher.Today’s broadcast is Episode 13 for Soundtrack Saturday, August 5th 2017. In celebrating my receipt of the all-new Turbografx16 Mini yesterday, I thought that I would share my own personal Turbografx story from my childhood. Unfortunately, I don't have a recording that is nothing by the TG story. But what I do have is the Channel F Introduction post, which not only contains my TG16 story (centered around Christmas 1992 / December 2000), but also my "NES Story" - Christmas 1989, which, apart from the simply terrible production value as my very first release (even before the release of Episode 1) is just an incredible story! And in my opinion, the Christmas 92 story is not that far behind it in terms of story worthiness. I don't know whether I'd stand behind every single word I say in this recording, but I know one thing that hasn't diminished is my love for the TG16 / PC Engine. In fact, as a make-up for not doing this in March, I believe our rerun cycle for June will also center around the TG16...specifically, a certain mini-series co-starring Bryce Dumond of the Turbotastic Podcast! Stay Tuned! Meanwhile, enjoy this surprise bonus rerun - a surprise even to me, as I had not planned to do this until I had the Mini hooked up, and was playing through game after game of greatness! Whether you're a TG16 veteran, have only had the most fleeting brushes with it, have never played one....or perhaps have not even heard of it, you owe it to yourself to try it out! If you've got a spare $100 laying about, I STRONGLY recommend you pick up one of your own! Cheers!
As always, I apologize for the sound quality in the intros and outros on all episodes 10 and earlier. Today's Rerun is the third of three chosen in light of tomorrow's C1E51 episode on the main Nerd Noise Radio feed, in celebration of St. John's 40th birthday. Each rerun was chosen because it shared an important aspect with the upcoming episode. C1E40 (on the main feed last month) for the massive collaboration element, C1E41 (on the rerun feed last month) for the start of a season, and today's rerun, C1E32 (originally released 07/23/2018) for the family connection. Be sure not to miss C1E51 tomorrow. T'was the day after Christmas, and all through the house, everybody had gift cards....even the mouse. The eShop proprietors hung banner ads with care, in hopes that big spenders soon would be there. To see much activity with so little clatter, as people spend money and eat up their data. The implicit plea which they hope that fills ya when you see what they've built is "Buy Something, Will Ya!".Today's rerun is C1E6: "Buy Something, Will Ya!", originally released Marth 23rd, 2017. The theme of today's rerun is eShop music, composed or spearheaded by Kazumi Totaka (due to the tack on intro, the time stamps will be incorrect).Tracklist - Track#, Track Name, Timestamp (system is WiiU and/or 3DS unless otherwise listed): 01: Intro - 00:0002: Wii - Shop Music - 01:4803: DSi - Shop Music - 03:4604: 3DS - June 2011 - 05:0605: November 2012 - 06:4606: September 2013 - 09:2307: December 2013 - 11:5608: January 2014 - 14:4309: April 2014 - 17:2810: July 2014 - 20:1911: January 2015 - 23:1112: June 2015 - 24:5113: September 2015 - 28:1414: December 2015 - 31:2615: January 2016 - 34:3016: May 2016 - 36:4717: Outro - 39:31
Merry Christmas, everybody! On the occasion, and the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the events contained therein, I thought we should re-broadcast a VERY special Christmas memory that actually predates the launch of the show! This was Channel F before Channel F existed. Hell, technically, even before Channel 1 existed! Episode 1 of Nerd Noise Radio - Channel 1 released 01/05/2017. Meanwhile, this was released 12/19/2016, and while behind the scenes, AT LEAST the first four episodes, and maybe as many as the first six were already completed before I sat down to record this, this was THE VERY FIRST Nerd Noise Radio production to be released to the public. Now, the production quality is TERRIBLE! ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! But the content therein, particularly the story, but also all the little background goodies are WONDERFUL! Hopefully more than wonderful enough to make up for the production awfulness! :-)Christmas 1989 was an incredibly special, and meaningful day for us, and the story is very touching, because it contains such highs, such lows, and a profound appreciation for the contrast between such wonders and such horrors all occurring inside one building all within 24hrs and three floors of each other. The story, called "The Fire and the Glory - and the unfortunate truth of what happened to the Transformers" - which is as close to an accurate telling of personal history as the memories of a child will allow - began life as a forum post on the now defunct "The Retro League Forums", before being finessed into a college English class essay at the University of Iowa in 2012. It was then republished a year or so later, with little to no changes in a lay-produced online video game magazine called "Retrogaming Times Monthly"....issue 105 if I'm not mistaken, before finally being recorded in this December 2016 proto-podcast broadcast which I'm sharing anew with you again today. It's very meaningful, and very special, and I hope you will enjoy it! Also, while the circumstances of the day may or may not allow it, it is my intent, on occasion of the 30th anniversary of these events to live broadcast myself today, reading the story again. It should appear on Facebook Live, and YouTube, and the audio from it, should I succeed in the occurrence, will also appear on the main Nerd Noise Radio iTunes / Podbean feed, as well as on Archive.org and blogspot.com. Make sure to keep an eye out for that.Lastly, I do not have the full credits for background music, but in addition to hearing "Not Today (the Building is on Fire)" by the Gregory Brothers - feat. Michelle Dobyne, and, of course, "We Didn't Start the Fire" by Billy Joel, you also hear an assortment of absolutely wonderful NES-caliber Christmas carols by DJ Octoroc, from his collection titled "8-bit Jesus", which are not merely NES-style Christmas carols, but are actually each in the style of a PARTICULAR PIECE of NES music. Like, "Kraid Rest Ye Merry Mother Brain" is the melody of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen", but with all the touchpoints of "Kraid's Lair" from Metroid. It's an unrivaled example of musical fusion, which amazes to this day! So be sure to be paying attention to what's happening in the background as well as to the story laid over it.Sorry, one very last thing: since we never featured a rerun in November, and have the bandwidth for it, I'll plan on releasing a second rerun tomorrow, and plan a special, festive tack-on to the front of it, recorded fresh for you! So, be on the lookout for that!In the meanwhile, Merry Christmas, and/or whatever other holidays you celebrate, and Happy New Year from Nerd Noise Radio!Enjoy!
Today’s RERUN is C1E8: "Battle of the Bits - vol. 1" Originally aired 04/23/2017. In honor of Vol. 2 (C1E48) releasing this Sunday, I thought it'd be the perfect time to share. The new episode will be about twice as long and feature many more BotB composers. However, I am pleased to announce here that every single BotB'er who appeared in this first episode returns for the second. As always, with episode 1-10, I must apologize for the terrible production value of the intro and the outro. Will be vastly improved in episode 48. Make sure not to miss it! This Episode is dedicated to the memory of Chris Chandler.  Tracklist - Track#, Composer, Track Name, System (Chip(s)), BotB Event, Timestamp:  01: Intro - 0:00 02: FearOfDark - Pancake Department - NES - WinterChip 7 - 01:57 03: Strobe - Citizens of Luala - Turbografx16 - SummerChip 3 - 05:43 04: Diagamblic (DYA) - The Upside Down - PCE - SummerChip 6 - 8:45 05: TristEndo - Take One For Teh Team - Genesis - WinterChip 8 - 12:31 06: Baron Knoxbury - Smeakny - YM2149/AY - WinterChip 8 - 15:16 07: TQ-Jam - Amanats - 2A03+N106 - SummerChip 3 - 15:54 08: Warlord - Space Boogie - AmigaMOD - WinterChip VI - 18:27 09: FearOfDark - The Day the Sun Exploded - SAPx2 - SumCh3 - 20:22 10: MootBooxle - A Change of Pace - OPL2+voc+drum - WinCh8 - 22:30 11: Kulor - The Sawblade Factory - SNES - SummerChip 7 - 27:13 12: Jredd (feat DYA) - Rise from the Ashes - Gen - SumCh7 - 29:50 13: Diagamblic (f Jredd) - Double Jump Moon Casino - Gen - SC7 - 32:30 14: Kfaraday - Diamondilium - SID - WinterChip 8 - 34:56 15: Chip Champion - Ice Fields - SMS - WinterChip 8 - 37:23 16: Baron Knoxburry - Azure Ascension - SNES - SummerChip3 - 39:48 17: Strobe - The Current System - Genesis - WinterChip8 - 41:55 18: FearOfDark - Fun With Laser Guns - FDS - WinterChip8 - 44:40 19: Outro - 48:10  Music Block Runtime: 46:20, Total Episode Runtime: 54:40  Our Intro and Outro Music is Funky Radio, from Jet Grind Radio on the Sega Dreamcast, composed by BB Rights.  The "Nerd Noise Radio" audio podcast feed can be found here:  https://nerdnoiseradio.podbean.com/feed/  or here  https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/nerd-noise-radio/id1191401173?mt=2  You can also find our audio episodes on Archive.org Best of 2018 - N/A  Our YouTube Channel can be found here:   https://www.youtube.com/user/NerdNoiseRadio  Our episodes (and occasionally, other content) can be found on our blog here:  nerdnoiseradio.blogspot.com.  Nerd Noise Radio is also available on The Retro Junkies Network at www.theretrojunkies.com, and is a member of the VGM Podcast Fans community at   https://www.facebook.com/groups/VGMPodcastFans/  Or, if you wish to connect with us directly, we have two groups of our own:   Nerd Noise Radio - Easy Mode: https://www.facebook.com/groups/276843385859797/ for sharing tracks, video game news, or just general videogame fandom.
NOTE: Because a) I failed to give you a rerun in August, b) The Sega Genesis mini comes out this month, c) I have  at least two Genesis soundtrack episodes in my back catalog, d) because they will both fit within the 2hr/mo upload limit the free service on Buzzsprout allows me, and e) because it seems extra apropos, and extra special to have a mini Genesis music focus on the Reruns feed, while we are having a min-series on the PC Engine / Turbografx16 over on the main feed (and between both my feeds, we will be simultaneously showcasing BOTH of my favorite two retro sound systems / music libraries), there will be TWO reruns this month. First up: C1E7: Sword of Vermilion (originally aired April 8th, 2017), followed later by C1E31: Streets of Rage 2 (originally aired July 7th, 2018)  Here's Streets of Rage 2!
