In today's episode, I share the top strategy my couple's therapist taught me over the past two years. This episode discusses the importance of creating fair fighting rules with your spouse to avoid lengthy arguments and ensure a healthy marriage. Why Create Fair Fighting Rules? Arguments in relationships are normal, but they can quickly escalate and damage a marriage if not handled correctly. By creating fair fighting rules with your spouse, you both establish clear guidelines for approaching and resolving conflicts respectfully and healthily. What Are Fair Fighting Rules? Fair fighting rules are the agreed-upon guidelines couples create to ensure arguments stay constructive and respectful. These rules can include not using hurtful language or bringing up past issues, taking a break when emotions run high, and actively listening to each other's  perspectives How to Create Fair Fighting Rules? To create fair fighting rules, both partners should come to the table with an open mind and a willingness to listen. Identify your personal triggers and share them with your partner, and establish guidelines for communication that honor both perspectives. Benefits of Fair Fighting Rules By establishing fair fighting rules, couples can resolve conflicts more quickly and effectively, leading to a healthier and happier marriage. They also help couples keep arguments from being drawn out and emotionally charged. Mentioned in This Episode: Find me on Instagram Email Me: taran (at) undomesticmom (dot) com

In today's episode, I'm sharing the five tips that would help any mom who ends up in the emergency room with her kids and has to be admitted to the hospital.  Last week, my toddler Cillian, came down with RSV and unfortunately needed to be admitted to the hospital for the night to get oxygen because he was having trouble breathing. He's doing much better now! But the RSV this year is no joke, and there are a few things I learned during 24 hours in the hospital with him that I wish I had known before.  Tips: 1. Put together a cheap "go bag" with some Dollar Tree toiletries, a change of clothes, and some snacks. When it's time to go to the emergency room, you won't want to waste time packing a bag, and it would be nice to have something to bring with you.  2. Don't suffer in silence. This is probably my biggest tip of them all. When it comes to anything you're dealing with at the hospital, speak up if you're emotionally, p,hysically or mentally drained. Tell your partner, your medical staff, and your family/friends. Let them help you devise a better plan or give you a break so you can walk away and collect yourself. These things will drain any mom quickly; we must be prepared to ask for help or try something new. 3. Get the doctor or charge nurse involved if necessary. I don't say this lightly as I completely respect the medical staff, and I know they have been stretched too thin over the past 2.5 years. However, if you do not see eye to eye with your nurse, could you ask the charge nurse so you can voice your concerns? YOu can also request to speak to the doctor if you want to discuss other treatment options. Never feel wrong about advocating for yourself and your child. 4. Sleep when you can. Don't let anyone make you feel like you should pull an all-nighter at your child's bedside, especially if they are content and sleeping. It would be best if you got whatever rest you can so you can make clear-headed decisions and not fall apart. Be bold and ask staff not to come in as often to do checks if everything is going well and you need sleep. OR as them to do checks very quietly and not wake you up.  5. Take all the help that's offered. This one is for my fellow recovering people pleasers. People will support you through childcare, food, and companionship when you're going through a hospital stay; take them up on it! Let your family take care of your other kids. Have friends bring food to the hospital or keep you company while your partner leaves (if permitted). Whatever is being offered, could you say yes to it without any guilt? People want to help you, and you deserve to receive it.  Find Me on Instagram Leave me a Review on Apple Podcast and I'll send you a coffee! In my first ever "Meaningful Mom Chat," I have the pleasure of chatting with Jessica Smith from the Fit Life with Jessica Podcast. It's no secret that motherhood is one of the most rewarding yet challenging jobs a woman can have. In my newest series, Jessica Smith shared her insights on inner healing, combatting mom guilt, and how to little moments to yourself can restore you in motherhood. This is a candid conversation between moms that you won't want to miss! Jessica Smith is an accountability coach who helps you NOT break promises to yourself.  She will push you when you need to be pushed and be there to listen when you need a friend.  Tough love mixed with compassion and motivation.  She loves taco night and would never expect you to skip the chips and salsa:) Her logical and realistic approach to helping women who want to work on their health goals is not just some fad diet.  Jessica and I connected on Instagram in April 2021 when I wanted some help staying accountable for my health goals. Jessica helped me fall back in love with riding my bike and having fun with daily movement. In today's episode, I'm asking Jessica my top 5 burning questions for all moms. We have a really meaningful conversation that touches on inner healing, mom friends, being proud of yourself in motherhood, carving out time for yourself, asking for what you need, and getting the support you need when times are tough.  We discuss the struggles with feeding our kids dinner, how the little moments impact our kids and how therapy can be the turning point on your road to happiness.  Going through tough times when you have little kids, and a mountain of responsibilities that don't stop can be extremely tough. Jessica and I get honest and vulnerable about how we both struggle to ask for help or support, and Jessica shares how she likes to receive support from friends that's meaningful and comforting. She gives some real-life anecdotes on how to get through the tough times and come out of the other side stronger. If you're a mom looking for uplifting and authentic conversation, this episode is for you! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. So, pour yourself a cup of coffee or tea, put your feet up and let's chat about how to have the happiest life possible. You are not alone in this journey called motherhood.
