On this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, Scott and I open the show with a TEASER regarding the HUGE announcement coming at the end of the show, that shares some killer news about the future of our podcast. We also announce the three awards our show has been nominated for in the upcoming Nebraska Podcast Awards this August. Then we get down to the most pressing business at hand: the departures of Casey Thompson, Logan Smothers and Richard Torres into the Transfer Portal. Will there be issues with depth at the quarterback position this season? We know Rhule and Company will run the QB a bit more than we saw from a Whipple-coordinated attack, so will 3 scholarship QB's be enough to outlast a rough and tumble Big 10, and lead Nebraska to that elusive bowl game? We also answer a few other questions:1) Does this mean Jeff Sims is locked in as the starter?2) Will Purdy push him in Fall Camp?3) If Sims isn't challenged by Purdy, can Haarberg challenge for the backup spot? We saw what he can do with the read option in the Spring Game.4) Was this Rhule's way of telling D-Coordinators that this kind of QB run game is coming, but without showing how well the Top 2 QB's can run it?We also touch briefly on the other players who are in the portal before calling it a night with a GLORIOUSLY GINORMOUS ANNOUNCEMENT! If you're reading these notes to find out ahead of time what it is, too bad. You'll have to watch the show, or listen to the podcast on Monday. On this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, it is our first MEGA POD, featuring Scott & I and three hosts from three Husker fan podcasts: Honke from the Go Big Redcast, Bryan from the Husker Army Podcast, and Andrew from the Big Red & More Podcast. After watching new Husker Head Coach Matt Rhule's first Spring Game, we had a lot of good to talk about, along with some not-so-good. Five dudes crammed around a small 5 foot dining room table made for a bit of a challenge; both in elbow room and in decent camera angle coverage, but overall it was a fun and entertaining conversation. We break down what we saw out of the new offense and defense, we each gave a game ball to a standout player, and then we finished our discussion with what Husker Nation largely hopes is the end to the Solich and brunette poser Herbie Curse. However, as a season-opening tussle with Minnesota looms in August, all of us will likely be asking the same question: is it REALLY finally over?Lord God in Heaven, we hope so! Stay tuned for future MEGA POD collaborations with these three gentlemen, along with a HUGE announcement about our show coming in the near-ish future. We hope you enjoyed the show, and would love for you to contact us with questions, comments, or suggestions. It's been awhile since Scott & I recorded our 72nd episode in which we happily trolled Iowa for it's three consecutive losses to Nebraska in the two major men's sports.Let's just sit back and enjoy that for a moment...Ok. On to the fun.In this, the 73rd episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, Scott and I watch the entirety of Head Coach Matt Rhule's press conference from March 28th, and give our live and unfiltered thoughts throughout. We also discuss the impending lifting of the Curse of Solich as Frank will be honored in Memorial Stadium during Nebraska's Spring Game on April 22nd. We rememisce on our memorable guest appearance on the Husker Cuz Cast on Sunday, and as always, throw some ear-wax related shade at Iowa's crappy corn.All-in-all, it was a fun and informative show. Coach Rhule informed us, and we had fun talking about it. Lol.We hope you enjoyed the show, and would love for you to contact us with questions, comments, or suggestions. Generation Red: A Husker Podcast presents our latest installment of A GenRed POD, where we look back at the Big Three victories over the Iowa Hawkeyes by Nebraska's Men's Basketball and Football teams. The coolest factoid about this show, is that it is the first time in the history of our podcast, that Scott and I have recorded in the same location: the brand new studio in my basement. That being said, please accept my apologies for some audio and camera issues. This show was recorded with different software, and it has a bit more detail and learning curve involved. In spite of the hiccups along the way, the in-person conversation made for a much better experience for both of us, and we also hope the same will be true for you.Oh...um yes, Iowa fans...we are trolling you. We are really proud of beating your sorry, unworthy-to-be-our-rival hides THREE STRAIGHT TIMES! Plus, we will always be VERY proud of the past glory we have witnessed, and we laugh at the past glory you haven't. Live with it, little brother. We let you have your seven years. That's over now.Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed recording this one, and while it was mainly focused on those tolling Squawkeye fans about three victories, we did venture into a philosophical discussion about the changing mood in the Athletic Department, and whether or not a "Rhule Effect" has begun to permeate throughout.Koolaid Ken says yes...kinda.Skeptical Scott says...meh. Maybe. We hope you enjoyed the show, and would love for you to contact us with questions, comments, or suggestions. In this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, Scott and I talk specifically about Dylan Raiola's surprise unofficial visit to Lincoln last weekend. Over the course of about 30 minutes, we examine the meaning behind the visit, the motivation for Dylan's ultimate decision of where to go play college ball, the crazy fun that was him throwing the bones at a sold-out PBA, the crazy news cycle that was around that weekend, and then we give our percentage chances of him ending up in Lincoln. This is the start of a new type of content that we plan to release during the off-season. They will be focused, single-topic episodes that we are branding as GenRedPods. Shorter name. Shorter shows. On this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, we are joined by Justin and Derrick of the Husker Cuz Cast for the 11th installment of the Big Red Roundtable. Ahem, Tyler was again absent. Some people...Tonight, we discuss the return of the Fullback to Nebraska's offense under new head coach Matt Rhule. We list our pros and cons, and then embark on a lively, tongue-in-cheek "debate" about the merits of the position, and it's relevance in modern football. We hope you enjoyed the show, and would love for you to contact us with questions, comments, or suggestions. On this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, we discuss the return of the huddle on offense for the Huskers. We list our pros and cons, and then proceed to wax not-so-eloquent on the topic. This is also the 10th installment of the Big Red Roundtable, in which we were joined by our buddies Derrick and Justin from the Husker Cuz Cast. Tyler was unable to join us, and we missed him, but at least we didn't have to hear another steak sauce analogy. We hope you enjoyed the show, and would love for you to contact us with questions, comments, or suggestions. In this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, we are back for second show in a series of pro-con debates about topics related to Husker football, or college football as a whole. This is the Big Red Roundtable, featuring the Cousins from the Husker Cuz Cast.On the docket tonight is a shorter, more compact episode covering one topic, and one topic ONLY: non-playoff bowl games, and what we believe are some pros and cons them. After sharing our individual pros and cons, of course the Cousins unleash their pent-up need to argue and we find ourselves traveling down many roads leading to nowhere. However, the entertainment value is absolutely priceless on this one! This is a new format we will be using this off season. Half-hour pre-recorded episodes that will drop on Wednesdays instead of Mondays while we await the start of the 2023 season. Weekly content. Better content. Less arguing...sort of.We hope you enjoyed the show, and would love for you to contact us with questions, comments, or suggestions. In this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, we are back from our hiatus to reunite with the Cousins from the Husker Cuz Cast for our 8th installment of the Big Red Roundtable. On the docket tonight is a shorter, more compact episode covering one topic: The 12-Team Playoff, and what we believe are some pros and cons to expanding the post-season. We wrap up the show with a spirited debate about some of the pros and cons shared by all five of us.This is a new format we will be using this off season. Half-hour pre-recorded episodes that will drop on Wednesdays instead of Mondays while we await the start of the 2023 season. On this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, the Cousins are BACK! It's been awhile since we hung out with Justin, Derrick, and Tyler on a livestream, but that is exactly what is on tap for this show. In fact, it is our first off-season installment of The Big Red Roundtable; the once-a-month show where we hang out with the cousins, and talk all things Husker football while waiting for the 2023 season. On this show, we will go over the results of the 2022 Over-Under Game that we played back in August. In case you are new to our channel, or to refresh your memory, here's a link to that episode: https://youtu.be/UqIUd3hs2Uo.Here's the audio podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/50607462If we don't get too long-winded going over those results, we may discuss the new coaching staff...most notably the retention of one Donovan Raiola. Let's just say some of us are not a fan of the move, and one in particular believes it indicates that Matt Rhule was a bad hire. That's a little quick to judge, but OK.Anyway, it's always a hoot to hang out with these guys, and we look forward to the monthly Roundtables in the future. We plan to have a few off-season Husker Fan Hangout streams as well, which are a relaxed show format that features YOU. The Husker fan. No notes. No outlines. No research. Just off the cuff video hangouts about our favorite Husker topics. It's like the breakroom at work, but on a computer. We would love to sit down with anyone who has a smartphone and a pair of earbuds and wants to be on a livestream with us. We already have a few folks lined up, so it should be fun. On this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, Scott and I gladly welcome back our buddy Bryan Knutzen from the Husker Army Podcast, and we are talking about all things Matt Rhule. The Huskers newest Head Football Coach was welcomed into Lincoln with great fanfare. My wife and I were there at Gate 20, cheering like crazy as he walked through a throng of Husker fans. AD Trev Alberts introduced him at the top of the steps, and then Coach gave a few remarks. After that, he tossed 5 autographed footballs into the crowd, one of which my wife caught. It's behind my left shoulder in the counter window into our kitchen. We will talk about the hiring and the crazy whirlwind that surrounded it, including the tragic news from the household of Mickey Joseph. We won't talk extensively about that situation, except to say that all of our thoughts and prayers are with the ENTIRE Joseph household, and we hope that the full truth of what happened that day will come to light, no matter how difficult it is for us to know. We'll take a quick look at the assistants that Coach Rhule has brought so far to Lincoln, and discuss about some roster changes and recruit decommits. Then we'll turn our attention to the future. We hope you enjoyed the show, and would love for you to contact us with questions, comments, or suggestions. Today's episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast is oh so sweet! Over the next hour or so, Scott and I revel in three days of good news: First, there's the ginormous victory in Iowa City on Friday, where Nebraska upsets Iowa 24-17; and then the Athletic Department announces Matt Rhule as its new Head Coach on Saturday, and here we are, celebrating both on a Sunday. Nothing feels better than beating that stinky, stuck up, and sucky-corn-growing state to the east of us. Also, nothing is better than knowing they’re not going to Indianapolis. And finally, nothing is better than finding out yesterday that a long coaching search is finally over; and in spite of the reticence among those in the fan base who wanted a big-time “splash” hire, the Huskers have their man in Matt Rhule. But we’re not covering his hiring on this show today, even though we really want to. After he's had his introductory press conference on Monday, and has hopefully assembled a staff that includes Mickey Joseph and Bill Busch. we will join a few friends from other Husker podcasts next Sunday afternoon at 4:30 CST to discuss our new head coach.Instead tonight, we want to talk about the huge win over Iowa on Friday afternoon, and the pure joy that is taking the Heroes Trophy back to Lincoln, where it belongs; and it will be here to welcome the Hawkeyes into Memorial Stadium next November. We will give our overall impressions of the game, cover the stats, give out our final Game-Breaker and Game-Wrecker of the Week awards, and then rate the offense, defense and ST on a scale of 1-10.After that, we will have a special segment dedicated to the difference Bill Busch made on this team in just 8 games as the Huskers’ DC. We’ll compare and contrast the stats from 4 years and 4 games under Eric Chinander to what Coach Busch accomplished from Indiana thru Iowa. It should make for a compelling case to keep him on Coach Rhule’s new staff for 2023. If not at DC, then at least let him coach safeties and Special Teams. In my opinion, it is nearly as important as retaining Mickey for the purposes of both recruiting, and staff continuity in all 3 phases of the game.We hope you enjoyed the show, and would love for you to contact us with questions, comments, or suggestions. On this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, we are joined by Bryan of the Husker Army Podcast, and Andrew from Big Red and More to discuss our favorite candidates for the Head Coach job at Nebraska, if it isn't Mickey. In full disclosure, the original intent of this show was to discuss a common Top 3 list of candidates; but due to my embarrassing decision to enjoy too many adult beverages, we never reached that point in the discussion. Also, this episode is heavily edited down from it original run time of 1 hour and 12 minutes, because no one really wants to listen to a drunken fool host a video podcast. Too many embarrassing moments for me to feel comfortable airing on this channel. My deepest apologies to all the other panelists for my irresponsibility in not finishing the discussion we had originally intended to have.Regardless of my own stupidity, it was STILL a great discussion. All four of us share our Top 5, with Scott dropping an interesting twist on the discussion. We hope you enjoyed the show, and would love for you to contact us with questions, comments, or suggestions. This episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast is hosted by Bryan from the Husker Army Podcast, and we spend just over an hour talking about the pros and cons of hiring Mickey Joseph as the permanent Head Coach of the Huskers. On this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, Scott and I recap the Michigan game, in all of it's crazy, wacky and wild unglory. From targeting a nutsack, to wiping out the most hated OC in college football, we cover it all folks. We look back at the stats, pick some players we thought stood out, and look forward to when Wisconsin rolls into Lincoln next Saturday. We may or may not be joined by some other wounded Husker fans in this endeavor. Hopefully, we can all help each other not feel so...despondent? No. Angry? No. What's the word I'm looking for here...oh yeah. Apathetic. On this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, Scott and I recap today's disappointing, and weird offensive performance by the Huskers in their 20-13 loss to the Minnesota Golden Gophers. We'll look at the final stats, pick our Game Breaker and Game Wrecker of the week, and bring the 1-10 ratings scales for the O, D, and ST. The Fool's Gold that was the 1st Quarter, in which it looked like Anthony Grant might go for 200 yards on the day, quickly turned into the same old, same old. Throw, throw, throw. Miss, miss, miss. And the wrong QB was likely playing for most of it. Ya just gotta love Whipple Ball, right? After that, we'll pick next week's Michigan game and call it a show. Ugh. This one hurts folks. On this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, Scott and I look forward to the Minnesota game this Saturday at 11AM in Memorial Stadium. ESPN2 has the honors to completely sh** on the Huskers for 4 quarters this time, and Scott and I kind of did the same thing for 35 minutes. We look at the stat comparisons between the two squads so far for the 2022 season, give our keys to victory for the Big Red, and then finish up with a couple score predictions that might make most of the Husker faithful who listen to us (all 5 dozen of you) unsubsribe. But we don't care. On this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, Scott is out sick, so while he rests up and gets better for next week’s show, I am joined tonight by Justin from the Husker Cuz Cast and Andrew from Big Red & More. We’ll open things up by getting to know Andrew a little and find out more about his podcast, and then we’ll catch up with Justin and find out what hijinks he and the cousins have been up to. Then we will take a look at Saturday’s tussle with Illinois at Memorial Stadium, including a discussion about both teams’ stats for the season so far, share some keys to victory, and then predict the score. Man, that Illinois defense is awfully good, so it will be an awfully tall task for the Huskers to win, namely because the offensive line has shown no signs of improvement since kicking off this crazy season in Ireland back in August. We hope you enjoyed the show, and would love for you to contact us with questions, comments, or suggestions.
