There's a lot of things human beings crave in life - happiness, knowledge, status, wealth, abundance - and most of us embark on seeking out this relentless pursuit of success without really knowing how to juggle all of our aspirations and goals in life. But what if I told you that there's a way to achieve all of these things and have them exist in harmony, no matter who you are, or where you start out in life? Today I'm joined by the genius mind who has done just that and is inspiring so many others to unlock their potential too. Steven Bartlett is one of the most brilliant entrepreneurs of our time, a best-selling author, investor and truly engaging speaker. This is the foundation of most successful businesses - to have people lining up wanting to buy your product and do business with you. Our guest today, Daniel Priestley, knows how to turn that into a reality. The term Daniel uses to describe this situation is "oversubscribed". Daniel is the founder of Dent Global, a company that operates across four continents, assisting businesses to stand out, scale up and make a positive impact. Daniel's book "Oversubscribed" is one of my most highlighted books and is the playbook I follow when thinking about how to create a business that outstrips your competition. Daniel's also written other insightful books, like 'Entrepreneur Revolution,' 'Key Person of Influence,' and '24 Assets,' each one of them offering insights on how to thrive in the modern business landscape. In this episode we talk about all things entrepreneurship and how to make $10k - $1M per month. But somehow you find ourself falling into the rabbit hole of Youtube videos or with a sudden urge to clean your house. Yep, we’ve all been caught by that monster of procrastination.Although procrastination is such a common problem, we still have lots of misperceptions about it. We tend to think that procrastination is a time-management issue. But - as we’ll learn in today’s episode - procrastination is actually a little more complex.By understanding the psychology nature of what procrastination is and why we procrastinate, we might be in a better place to reduce or even overcome procrastination. My guest today is Dr. Fuschia Sirois, professor of psychology at Durham University. Before she came to the UK, Fuschia was a Canada Research Chair and the Co-ordinator of the multidisciplinary Psychological Health and Well-being Research cluster at Bishop’s University (2010-2015).Dr Fuschia's interest stretch from self-regulation — exploring how we manage our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors — to their impact on our health and wellbeing.Above all, Dr Fuschia is probably most well-known for her work on procrastination. Her recent book explores what procrastination is, why we procrastinate, and what we can do about it.What I really admire about about Fuschia is that she believes in the power of psychological science as a tool to improve lives, and she has an uncanny ability to communicate these complex ideas in a way that is both engaging and easily comprehensible. Her work's been features in many news outlets including The Washington Post, The New York Times, and the BBC.I hope you enjoy the conversation!Sponsored by Huel - go to https://www.huel.com/deepdive and with your first order you’ll get a free t-shirt and shaker.Sponsored by Trading 212 - download the Trading 212 app https://trading212.com/promocodes/ALI and use the promo code "ALI" after signing up and depositing to receive a random free share worth up to £100. But really there’s no secret formula to get rich quick and personal finance is actually pretty straightforward, but a lot of us tend to shy away from learning about how money really works and where it comes from because we find it boring or because it requires us to do that slightly scary thing of projecting 20 years ahead. So today we have a guest to help us simplify all things money and finance in a digestible way. Rob Dix is an investment fund adviser, co-presenter of one of the UK’s most popular business podcasts (The Property Podcast) which I’m a big fan of, and the author of four best-selling books about property investment. Rob’s most recent book The Price Of Money: How to Prosper in a Financial World That’s Rigged Against You, is the book he wished he had on the topic money growing up, because despite the fact humans spend their entire lives trying to earn more money very few of us understand how it works and the best way to use it.Sponsored by Huel - go to https://www.huel.com/deepdive and with your first order you’ll get a free t-shirt and shaker.Sponsored by Trading 212 - download the Trading 212 app https://trading212.com/promocodes/ALI and use the promo code "ALI" after signing up and depositing to receive a random free share worth up to £100. Take the podcast survey here (it take 5mins!) 👉 https://forms.gle/NbDdToDNgpHUMzcP9 Have you ever wondered how some people effortlessly attract success, abundance, and happiness into their lives? There’s one school of thought that suggests our beliefs and intentions have the power to shape our reality, so by manifesting positive thoughts we’re able to change our reality for the better. Some call this concept ‘manifestation’. Over the past few years, the word manifestation has got mixed reviews - sometimes seen as a transformative practice that has the power to change people’s lives, and sometimes seen as a bit new-age’y and mystical. Today I’m joined by Roxie Nafousi, who’s going to help demystify the conversation around manifestation and help us understand how we can use the practice to be more intentional about what we want in our future to make deliberate positive change in our lives. Roxie is a self-development coach, inspirational speaker, manifesting expert and 2 x Sunday Times Bestselling author. Her debut book MANIFEST: 7 Steps to Living Your Best Life has become a global success since it entered the market in January 2022, and is widely regarded as the must-have guide to manifestation. In the conversation we cover a lot of questions: what are the misconceptions around manifestation? Is there a “right way” and a “wrong way” to manifest? How much does manifesting differ from traditional goal setting? How much is manifestation about achieving something external vs developing internally? What’s the science? And what are some practical tips to start manifesting?Sponsored by Huel - go to https://www.huel.com/deepdive and with your first order you’ll get a free t-shirt and shaker.Sponsored by Trading 212 - download the Trading 212 app https://trading212.com/promocodes/ALI and use the promo code "ALI" after signing up and depositing to receive a random free share worth up to £100. Globally, people have an of average 6 hours 58 minutes of screen time per day (according to the Average Screen Time Stats 2023) and when you look at an entire week that’s over 46hrs, almost two whole days a week, spent on devices - which is pretty mind blowing. But what kind of impact is this time spent on the digital hamster wheel having on our focus, motivation and overall health? How do we block out the noise and focus on what really matters to be happier and healthier people. Today I’m joined by Hector Hughes. Hector is the co-founder of Unplugged who provide digital detoxes at minimalist, off-grid cabins in nature across the UK to help the always-on, switch off. In the episode, we’ll talk about how Hector started his business after overcoming burnout, all things digital detox and how important it is to unplug in our increasingly digital dependent world, what the consequences are if we don’t and a few hacks for developing a healthier relationship with tech. Take the podcast survey here (it take 5mins!) 👉 https://forms.gle/NbDdToDNgpHUMzcP9 For a lot of us, navigating our future careers can feel like an uncertain and anxiety-inducing time. You might find yourself asking questions like: how do I know that I’m on the right path? Is my job truly fulfilling me? Am I using all my strengths and developing in my role? Do I really have to do this for the next 50 years of my working like? But among all this uncertainty you might be feeling, one thing is for certain - careers, as we’ve traditionally known them, are changing for the better. Gone are the days when a single career path and job ladder could define us for a lifetime. Instead, the world is moving  towards a more exciting, fluid and non-linear model, where the focus is on talents over job titles and new possibilities over career plans — this is known as the squiggly career. And in this episode I’m here with Helen Tupper co-author of the No.1 Sunday Times Business Bestseller ‘The Squiggly Career: Ditch the Ladder, Discover Opportunity, Design Your Career’ to talk about how we can navigate this change and develop the skills to successfully traverse the ‘squiggly career’ and maximise our potential for growth and opportunity. Helen has held leadership roles at Microsoft, Virgin and BP and is now CEO of Amazing If, an award-winning career development company with a mission to make work better for everyone. Her love of learning has led her to study at Henley, Cranfield and Cass Business School. Helen is a trustee for the Working Families charity and a Fellow of The RSA and lives. Along with co-authoring her two books ‘The Squiggly Career’ and most recently ‘You Coach You’ with Sarah Ellis, they also host the No.1 Careers podcast. Take the podcast survey here (it take 5mins!) 👉 https://forms.gle/NbDdToDNgpHUMzcP9 From my experience working as a doctor, it’s very clear that we don’t treat mental health in the same way as physical health. And even though awareness about mental health has grown in the past decade or so, we still have a long way to go when it comes to understanding this topic and changing our attitudes towards mental health. Someone at the front of the campaign to change the conversation around mental health is Dr Alex George. Dr Alex is a TV doctor, best-selling author, and Youth Mental Health Ambassador to the government. Alex has become a well-known and respected figure amongst healthcare professionals in the UK, from his years as an A&E doctor, bringing the nation accessible and reassuring advice directly from the frontline throughout the pandemic. Alex is on a mission to improve mental health support for young people and has become prolific throughout the UK in his campaigning for Early Support Hubs and he’s recently published his latest book The Mind Manual: Mental Fitness Tools For Everyone - which we dive into during this episode. In the conversation, we talk about how to assess your mental health and understand the baseline that’s normal for you, we talk about how to build mental fitness and navigate feelings like anxiety and loneliness, and also discuss some of the ‘universal truths’ from Alex’s new book that everyone needs to remember. Since entering the world of finance, Codie became partner at private equity firm EEC, and built First Trust’s $1 billion+ AUM Latin America business. She’s also the co-founder of ‘Unconventional Acquisitions’ and the founder of ‘Contrarian Thinking’ who have a mission to bring more people into financial freedom. In the conversation we talk about how, just like Codie’s career, human beings don’t have linear paths, we talk about the question of whether you need periods of struggle in order to achieve wealth, happiness and success. As well as advice for women in the workplace and leadership and we finish by covering a handful of truths that will make you more money than any business degree. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.Sponsored by Huel - go to https://www.huel.com/deepdive and with your first order you’ll get a free t-shirt and shaker.Sponsored by Trading 212 - download the Trading 212 app https://trading212.com/promocodes/ALI and use the promo code "ALI" after signing up and depositing to receive a random free share worth up to £100. It's a trait that many of us strive for, believing that it will lead to success and happiness. But what if I told you that this concept of perfectionism as we know it isn’t the full picture? And the badge of honour we think perfectionists wear is one big misconception. Today I’m joined by Professor Thomas Curran, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science at the London School of Economics. With over a decade of experience, Professor Curran is a world leading expert on perfectionism. He has written for the Harvard Business Review, New Scientist, The Guardian, Telegraph and Wall Street Journal. In 2018, he gave a TEDMED talk which has over 3 million views and earlier this month he published his book The Perfection Trap: The Power of Good Enough in a world that always wants more’. In the conversation we talk about the paradoxical effects of perfectionism, how our perfectionistic traits stem from a cultural obsession rather than a personal flaw and shows what we can do as individuals to resist the modern-day pressure to be perfect - and how we can create a culture that celebrates the joys of imperfection.Sponsored by Huel - go to https://www.huel.com/deepdive and with your first order you’ll get a free t-shirt and shaker.Sponsored by Trading 212 - download the Trading 212 app https://trading212.com/promocodes/ALI and use the promo code "ALI" after signing up and depositing to receive a random free share worth up to £100. You might be anxious about whether you’re on the right path (like whether you should stick to a conventional career or go travelling), you might be struggling to find your ‘true self’ (like what your purpose and passions are), or your might be struggling to balance your relationships with your 9-5 job. Let’s face it. The period of our 20s isn’t the easiest to navigate. Today I’m joined by Jemma Sbeghen. Jemma is the podcast host of The Psychology Of Your 20s, the podcast that talks through some of the big life challenges and changes of your 20s and what they mean for our psychology. Jemma has a degree in psychology and started her podcast during the covid lockdown where she applied psychological concepts she’d learned to the common problems people face in their 20s, including everything from imposter syndrome, to break ups and existential crisis’. In its first year, the podcast catapulted to Spotify’s top 10 podcast charts in the US, UK, and Australia. In the episode we talk about this feeling of uncertainty, often known as the quarter-life crisis, how to navigate these feelings filtering into different aspects of our life, as well as talking about the habits we can develop in our 20s to help us feel more in tune and at peace with our relationships, careers and identity. (00:00) Intro (01:34) What is a quarter life crisis?(06:30) The paradox of choice(12:57) Life is a picture but you live in a pixel(16:20) The different narratives of your 20s(29:00) Friendships are the most important relationships in our 20s(31:10) Loneliness and alonement (34:55) Journalling (37:25) How to maintain friendships(48:50) Setting boundaries(53:12) Stepping out of your comfort zone(01:12:54) Habits for finding work life balance (01:21:05) Advice on finding your identity🔗 CONNECT WITH JEMMA The Psychology of Your 20s🎙 Podcast 💻 Website📸  Instagram🔗 CONNECT WITH ALI🎥 YouTube Channel💻 Website📸  Instagram🐦  Twitter👥 Linkedin🎙 ABOUT THE PODCASTDeep Dive is the podcast that delves into the minds of entrepreneurs, creators and other inspiring people to uncover the philosophies, strategies and tools that help us live happier, healthier and more productive lives. If you enjoy listening to the podcast, please do leave a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts - even one line helps! Back in our parents’ and grandparents’ days, it was common for people to meet through family or mutual friends. Nowadays, things are a little more complicated. We’re much less likely to meet our potential partners organically. It’s pretty rare for people to meet through sports clubs, events, or just by hanging out with people who live in your local area. The rise of dating apps and websites means that our first encounter with our potential partners is likely to be through a screen - which comes with a lot of complexities. On top of that, the rise of social media encourages us compare our relationship with the seemingly perfect couples on Instagram - which often creates unrealistic expectations. So, how do we navigate this new landscape and find those meaningful connections that we crave and that add value to our lives? In this episode of deep dive, I spoke to renowned dating coach Matthew Hussey. Matthew Hussey has helped millions of people find love and build strong relationships for over a decade. His YouTube channel has nearly 3 million subscribers and his book, ‘Get the Guy’, is a New York Times bestseller. What you guys said about keeping our business small being better than escaling it to the point of needing a big team resonates so much with what I want for myself. I've never wanted to manage other people. I want to scale my business and make a lot of money, but only as much as I can handle by myself or with just a little help from contractors.
