Description

THAT'S A WRAP for Season 2. I will be taking a break for the summer (because I'm a Mamapreneur too and I practice what I preach). Season 3 will be back in August of 2023 with weekly episodes jam-packed with insights and tips. Until then, come say hello over on Instagram - you can find me @RadiantJoyMotherhood.

------------------

For generations, society has painted motherhood as a time of endless joy and beauty - from pregnancy, through postpartum and beyond. This podcast is shattering that image by normalizing conversations about real motherhood. The messiness AND the beauty. The joy AND the self-sacrifice. I am your host, Lynn Turcotte-Schuh, Sea Lion Trainer turned Mama Mentor and I'd like to welcome you to Radiant Joy Motherhood.

Each episode will be packed with inspiration, reminders that you are not alone in your struggles and actionable ideas to help you start redefining your own motherhood experience. My goal: for you to know that it is OK to love your kids AND NOT love motherhood. My mission: to help you break away from society's expectations and redefine your own experience so you can find radiant joy in every single day.

So go reheat your coffee (or Chai) for the 18th time today, plop your kiddo in front of Sesame Street (or Dino Dana if you're in our house) and open your heart to finding radiant joy in motherhood.

I'll never forget the day I brought my daughter home. I was super excited, super scared and really overwhelmed all at once. As the hours went by and the days started melding together, I struggled to get sleep, to feed her and to take care of myself. I felt so alone in the world and unsure of how to navigate this whole new season of my life.If I had only known then about Postapartum Doulas and all the support they can offer, things might have been different. That's why, even though I love teaching Childbirth and helping families prepare for the arrival of their baby, I am even more passionate and intentional about supporting Moms on the other side of birth. Quite often, once baby comes, Mom gets forgotten...and in a time when she really needs to be seen, heard and understood the most. That's why I am so excited for today's guest. She is a Postpartum Doula, a Mampreneur and Mama to a toddler. She has such incredible insight and tips. Whether you are expecting your first child or completely done having babies, there is something here for you. What we touch upon at the core is the universal lack of support we get as Moms and what we can do to change that._____________________________________________________________________________Episode 48: Navigating the Fourth Trimester: Insights from a Postpartum Doula with Tasha CoferHaving a new baby can be an exciting and joyous adventure, but there is still a measure of uncertainty and fear that comes along with a new addition. Tasha Cofer is a Postpartum Doula who's goal is to make birthing parents feel secure and help them navigate the first 12 weeks after birth. She's available to help with answering questions, easing fears, and providing helpful suggestions, so they can feel honored and confident as they grow into the parent they want to be. As a Postpartum Doula, Postpartum Consultant, Infant Sleep Consultant, and Parenting Educator serving Augusta, GA and the CSRA, she has the expertise to nurture birthing parents and their families during the Fourth Trimester. In this episode we talk about:The Fourth Trimester: what it is and why it's so importantWhat is a Postpartum Doula and why they can change the game after baby is bornHow beneficial a postpartum plan can be going into motherhood/parenthoodWhat things can you plan for and get support in - Rest, Nutrition, Education, Self-CareThe importance of community/support as you enter this new season of your lifeHow our partners are walking their own path of entrance into a new season of life and need support and consideration as wellTasha shares how Postpartum Doulas are NOT just for first-time parentsHow to find a Postpartum Doula and what questions to ask as you interviewResources and Links:Website: https://www.honoringthefourthtrimester.orgInstagram: @honoringthefourthtrimesterPinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/honoringthefourthtrimester/Linked-In: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tasha-postpartum-doula/Support the showConnect with Lynn on instagram @HappyMamaWellness. This Facebook Live with Jessica Larson of Mama-Be Self Care was recorded during the lockdown at the beginning of COVID but the insight we share about connecting with our kids applies no matter what season we are in.I have always seen parenting as a relationship, not a strategy. That's why I don't practice or preach any particular parenting style. Each of us, as Moms, is different and each of our children is different. In my opinion, being  successful as a parent means understanding your child's basic needs and what fills their cup. Building an honest and authentic connection. Nurturing your relationship so it feels mutually respectful and safe.Lockdown may have afforded us an opportunity to openly discuss the challenges, stresses and struggles of motherhood in a way that may have felt shameful or guilt-ridden before COVID. What it did NOT do is change anything about the way I approach parenting. I have always been focused on the connection and the relationship and I can't wait for you to hear the tips and insights shared in this Facebook Live Replay. One little note before we get started - the At Home Mamas Club is now known as the Happy Mama Wellness Community AND is still open for any Mama out there looking for support!__________________________________________________________________Dr. Jessica Larson is a psychologist, mother, mentor and founder of Mama Be: Self-Care for Moms where she helps women develop and implement strategies to lead connected and fulfilling lives.   In this episode we talk about:I share how my Marine Mammal Trainer experience prepared me to be a parentWe talk about the ups and downs/roller coaster ride of motherhood...especially over the last few yearsJessica asks me how to connect in time of stress - and my answer may surprise you 🥰The importance of honesty and transparency with your child especially when it comes to US failingBeing a Leader versus a Manager Resources and Links:Website: https://www.drjessicalarson.com/  Free Self-Love Guide: https://www.drjessicalarson.com/freeSupport the showConnect with Lynn on instagram @HappyMamaWellness. Alright, Mamas, let's talk about something we all know but rarely discuss – our menstrual cycles. We all have different experiences when it comes to (what my Mom used to call Aunt Flo's monthly visit) but one thing we can all agree on is the ups and downs that come with it.What if I told you that you could use those energy changes to your advantage? Yes, you heard me right – your menstrual cycle can actually help you be more productive! Having been a Childbirth Educator educator for the past nine+ years I thought I had a pretty good handle on reproductive cycles and women's health. But after working with our guest today, Carelyn Torres, several years ago I realized I really didn't understand my body at all. She helped me unlock the power behind my monthly cycle and, as often as I can, I try to honor that cycle and build my schedule accordingly. As women, especially Moms, we're constantly juggling multiple roles and responsibilities, and it can be easy to push ourselves too hard. But by working with our bodies instead of against them, we can create a more balanced and productive life. And that's just one of the time management/productivity hacks we're talking about with Carelyn.Of course, everyone's cycle is different, and there may be some overlap between the phases. But the key is to pay attention to your body and listen to what it's telling you. So the next time you feel like you're on an emotional roller coaster, take a deep breath and remember – your menstrual cycle is on your side. Use those energy changes to your advantage, and who knows – you might just surprise yourself with what you can accomplish. You might want to take notes for this one so press pause here and go grab some paper and a pen. Don't worry...we'll wait :-) Awesome! Welcome back! Now that we're all ready to go, let's dive right in.____________________________________________________________________________________Carelyn is a wife, Mom of two boys and a Lifestyle Engineer helping moms in business recover from exhaustion and reignite their passion for life through prioritizing their self care and fun!Using her signature process, The CARES Method, her clients not only scale their businesses and their impact, they have the energy to be active, go on adventures with their family and play with their children and fill their life with happiness and joy! What we discuss in this episode:How to manage your energy versus managing your timeWhere you put your time and energy are your true prioritiesUnderstanding how your energy changes throughout the menstrual cycle and using that to manage your schedule and activitiesCarelyn's new course (get more details at the link below)Resources and Links:Thriving Biz-E Mom Lifestyle Facebook CommunityInstagram:  @CarelynTorresFreebie: https://www.carelyntorres.com/selfcarejournal/ Ditch the Overwhelm: Planning System to Create Harmony in Your Day (Make sure to use code "HMW" for a 20% discount)Support the showConnect with Lynn on instagram @HappyMamaWellness. On-air Coaching Call time! We love these episodes because they are real-life and unscripted. Today I am chatting with Megan and her main question initially was "How do I react when my daughter does something that's really unacceptable?"...but the real question was "How do I regulate my emotions enough to do what I know I should be doing?"In this episode you'll find:How to respond to toddlers who are doing their work (biting, kicking, etc). How to respond to our kids when they have done something (like break a television) that they don't understand fully.A REAL LIFE PARENTING MOMENT that illustrates exactly what we talked about above - and then we unpack it.Why we sometimes regulate and sometimes we can't...and what to do about it.Here is a link to the IG Video that shows some fun breathing exercises: https://www.instagram.com/stories/highlights/18097717303157364/Support the showConnect with Lynn on instagram @HappyMamaWellness. Amelia Kriss is a Drama Therapist and Certified Coach in private practice in the Bay Area, California, where she lives with her husband and two powerhouse daughters. She works primarily with recovering people-pleasers and "Nice" girls who are ready to deconstruct self-shrinking patterns, and find more ease & joy. Amelia is also deeply committed to Birth Story Medicine work; helping birthing parents integrate, and move forward from, unresolved issues connected to the experience of giving birth. She believes that supporting parents through birthing as a rite of passage is an important (and too often missing) piece of creating healthier & happier families. Amelia is also a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator and a director for therapeutic theatre. She is deeply interested in the connection between our personal healing journeys and our collective liberation. What we discuss in this episode:Amelia shares her own postpartum journey and the moment her husband asked her how she was. Her answer surprised her and helps to frame her transition into motherhood. What it really means when we get the message after a birth that says "Mom and Baby are healthy and happy."Why it is so important to prepare birthing people for the psychological and spiritual identity changes that come with the physical experience of birth. Why the information preparing families have access to leans towards one of two extremes and why both sides are just not complete. "Most of us hold both sides; fear AND trust."Growing humans is a bad-ass thing and we are strong enough to think about, and prepare for, all potential outcomes. What it means to be "empowered" as a parent. You have life experiences you can draw on as you prepare for birth. And how birth is like going on a hike.Amelia shares about her Group Coaching program - how she designed and it and how it will help expectant parents. How society steers us wrong in birth and motherhood and why Redefining Motherhood exists. How motherhood is not a role or an archetype but an experience.Lynn shares the experience that jolted her out of "survival mode" in motherhood.Amelia connects for us that there is a level of death/change/rebirth that takes place in the transition into motherhood. The truth of matrescence, or the transition to motherhood, is that it's messy. It's overwhelming. It's a period of intense transition where you your mind, body and spirit feel out of control and you don't recognize the person in the mirror. You lose your confidence. You're caught between two worlds. You're stumbling to figure out who this new person is. What she likes. What she fears. What she needs. When you listen to your inner voice and go against the grain, you get Mom-Shamed and bullied...by other people going through the same thing you are. So when we say motherhood is hard. This is what we mean. And it's also beautiful. Mixed in with the exhaustion, the ambivalence, the guilt are moments of pure elation. Gratitude. Inspiration. Awe as you watch your child grow. You are on separate journeys of discovery...but you get to do it together and that is an incredible gift.So far all the Mamas out there who feel like they're failing. Who feel numb. Who feel burnt out and overwhelmed. Who feel alone. Who feel drained. Who feel deceived by society's narrative of motherhood, this episode is for you. These are the five things I wish I'd been told about motherhood before I began matrescence.Mamaste, Lynn Support the showConnect with Lynn on instagram @HappyMamaWellness. Ep. 29 - What is Love?

Ep. 29 - What is Love?

2022-06-0605:55

I came across the words of Iain S Thomas and it struck a chord. Here is what he wrote:Before your children came, they were told you would love them.So whatever you do, however you treat them, to them, it is love.If you are cruel to them, they will think it is love.If you yell at them, they will think it is love.If you ignore them, they will think it is love.If you walk away from them, they will think it is love. And if you are kind to them, they will think it is love. And if you are gentle with them, they will think it is love. And if you listen to them, they will think it is love. And if you hold them tightly, they will think it is love.Because we cannot point to anything that exists and say, ‘This is love.’ So you will teach your kids every day they’re with you what it is. And one day, when someone else treats them the way you treated them, they will say, ‘This is love.’"__________________________________________If you enjoyed this episode of the Redefining Supermom Podcast, leave a review on iTunes!
