EPISODE 46Soy El Idiota Special Exposes Cultural Clashes and Personal Dilemmas. In this episode of "HMA - Am I the Asshole?" (Soy El Idiota?) we dive deep into three thought-provoking scenarios that challenge social norms, cultural sensitivities, and personal boundaries. First up, tensions rise as a user questions their actions in confronting their Latina friend about her use of a racial slur. Is it justified to educate a friend about the offensiveness of certain words, even if they belong to a different ethnic background?Next, emotions flare as another user grapples with the decision to forbid their Mexican girlfriend from participating in a traditional dance. Are they protecting cultural heritage or stifling individual expression in their relationship?Lastly, we explore the complexities of family dynamics as one user struggles with revealing their Latino boyfriend's ethnicity to their parents. Is it fair to keep a partner's background hidden to avoid potential conflicts or judgments from loved ones?Join us as we navigate through these challenging scenarios and invite our community to weigh in on the moral dilemmas presented. Will opinions align, or will diverse perspectives shed light on the complexity of these situations? EPISODE 31It’s time to expand the definition of “medicine”. Healed people, heal people.Welcome back, dear HMA listeners!Join us as we immerse ourselves in the captivating world of curanderismo.Curanderismo is a form of traditional medicine that has its roots in the indigenous cultures of Latin America and has been passed down from generation to generation. It combines elements of herbal medicine, spirituality and energy healing to treat a variety of physical and emotional ailments. One of the most interesting aspects of curanderismo is its holistic approach. Healers believe that body, mind, and spirit are intrinsically connected, and that illness or imbalance in one of these aspects can affect the others. Therefore, treatment focuses on restoring balance and harmony at all levels. In this episode, we had the pleasure of welcoming "Chio" as our special guest. Chio is the owner of Sacred Semillas, a nurturing space located in Oakland, CA. At Sacred Semillas, they offer various services such as Limpias (spiritual cleansings), Retreats, Forest Bathing, Self-Care Socials, and even a Mercadito (marketplace). In the previous episode, some of you might recall that Lizette's mother underwent surgery at the end of June, and her recovery has been quite challenging. Despite the difficulties, Lizette and her family were able to bring her mother back home. It was during this time that Lizette's mother expressed a desire for a "limpia," a spiritual cleansing. Determined to find someone trustworthy, Lizette reached out and met Chio, who played an instrumental role in their journey. To discover the rest of the story and gain insight into the world of curanderismo, we invite you to listen to this episode. We'd love to hear your own experiences with curanderismo or if you know someone who has benefited from its practices.
