The misconceptions about leadership are many. The pressures are very real. The pressure to be a 'certain style' of leader can often be a huge challenge to new leaders or struggling leaders who are being told they need to make a change.   This episode covers 5 common choices that leaders are asked to make and ALL of them can impact the type of leader you are trying to become and have positive and negative repercussions.  Explore the accidental extremes that leaders need to choose between, the fine line that often separates them and learn how changing up your leadership style too abruptly can lead you down the wrong path.   Music in this episode: Epidemic Sound, Guustavv, Jobii, Justnormal - 'Textural' https://www.epidemicsound.com/track/CuKe9oglIz/
Change Management... seems like it's all that leaders do these days. In the retail industry? It has quickly become a leader's primary role in brick and mortar stores. In our first Fresh Take Tuesday interview, we are joined by Joyce Foskin, a veteran leader within the retail industry for over 2 decades and someone currently working hard to help her location and her team navigate some major changes. Her organization is going through rapid growth and a reorganization TOP DOWN into a more structured and aligned team in terms of every aspect of their company - from customer to employee to supply chain to day to day execution. In this episode, we take on the topic of change management and explore 3 MAJOR CHALLENGES that this new 'primary' role has for the leaders out there: 1. Career Growth 2. Applying Change Locally 3. Positive Accountability
The question of whether leaders are born or made has been debated and discussed for over 100 years, and our team takes it on from a perspective that many leaders often find themselves in at one point or another in their career: SELF-DOUBT. "Am I good enough?" "Do I really have what it takes?" Doubt can sabotage many leaders (and even stop potential leaders from taking that first step), and most of that doubt comes from the feeling that we might be lacking 'the thing' that makes leaders REALLY great. This detailed discussion takes you on a journey: from the history of how we view and document great leaders to the theories that have evolved around it, moving into a comparison between the traits of introversion and extroversion and their impact on leadership, concluding with an exploration of 5 common scenarios that leaders find themselves in and how those personality traits can influence how they navigate them. Don't let self-doubt diminish your leadership potential. Learn more about how YOU can become a great leader today!
Are you sabotaging your success by not getting this key element of leadership right? Are you avoiding this all together because it makes you uncomfortable? Stop 'settling' for poor results or lack of improvement in talent and start being effective.   In this episode, we tackle one of the most underrated and often unspoken keys to successful leadership: HONEST FEEDBACK.   It's not a skill that's taught to leaders when your onboard  as a manager or executive, but is learned through trial and error. Usually a LOT of errors... and those bad feedback moments can lead to anxiety around these types of communications, ultimately potentially leading to failures in the future due to poor leadership.    In this podcast, Ed walks you through the importance of getting it right and shares 6 easy tips that will take away your anxiety and worry when needing share honest feedback with a member of your team... setting yourself up for better results, happier team members and a more satisfying work experience! ____________________________________________________ Who is Stand Up Retail? Short, Sweet And To The Point: This episode is about the truth of the retail industry today... that ALL ROLES need to be ready to do more, be more and get comfortable with change. In short, being AGILE mean that you're going to need to step up... and probably step up OFTEN if it's in your job description.   There is good news though: for those who know how to do it WELL (and leverage those moments to their advantage career-wise), stepping up can be a very good thing.   In this 15 minute Micro Episode, Edward walks us through two topics:   1. How to get your team to step up (if you lead one)  2. How you personally can be ready to step up   ________________________________________________________ Who is Stand Up Retail? Short, Sweet and To The Point: This episode is about two workplace concepts that can get 'tuned out' very easily when times get tough, work gets crazy or our workspace/organization goes through a change: WORKPLACE ENGAGEMENT and WORKFORCE EMPOWERMENT.   Here, Edward takes us through both important concepts (that when in play, guarantee greater success and satisfaction at work) from a new angle. By redefining these two overly used (and often vaguely defined) words into terms all can understand, Carrie & Edward guide you through some why's and how's on implementing them and a way to help 'reset' you or your team in the new year.  ___________________________  Who is Stand Up Retail?
