New age spirituality is creeping into the fitness industry. From tarot cards at the front desk of barre studios, yoga classes at nearly every gym across the country, and a general openness to trying things like horoscope readings, psychics, and sound bath meditations to improve wellbeing, the industry that is meant to make us well is leading us down a path of darkness. As Christians, we must be discerning about what we open our heart to and allow into our lives. The great news is that the Holy Spirit is your best friend when it comes to determining which classes and gyms to step into and which to avoid. Join me in this episode for a conversation on defining new age spirituality and some thoughts on why it's working its way into spaces where we never thought we'd see it. Scriptures referenced in this episode:John 12:46Leviticus 19:31Colossians 2:6-8Genesis 1:312 Corinthians 5:17Philippians 3:20-21Research and related articles mentioned in this episode:Ligonier Editorial: What Is New Age SpiritualityPsychiatric Times: Religion, Spirituality, and Mental HealthOther episodes to check out:I Changed My Mind: YogaKnow that you can always reach out with prayer requests or listener questions by emailing me at movedbyhimpodcast@gmail.com (or message me on Instagram at @movedbyhim_)!Did you know that leaving a 5-star rating takes only a couple seconds? Let's dive into the science! In this episode I share all the details on a recent piece of research comparing intermittent fasting to calorie counting. I offer my thoughts on the results of the study and also give you clear steps to determine if intermittent fasting or calorie tracking is right for you.I have yet to talk much on this podcast about intermittent fasting (also called time restricted eating), so this felt like the perfect opportunity. We are made to worship and if our worship isn't intentionally directed at God throughout our days there are tons of things that can take His place. Fitness is one of those things that can easily become a "religion" in our lives - I know this from personal experience! If our energy, time, attention, and thought space is constantly being directed toward our physical being, there is a good chance that fitness is starting to compete with our faith in God. Our physical body and fitness level can become a god of sorts; something we begin to worship without even realizing it.In today's episode, I share 4 questions to ask yourself to identify if fitness is becoming a religion to you. I pray that this episode is encouraging and directs you back to God!The scriptures I referenced in this episode:Exodus 32:21-24Revelation 4:9-11Romans 8:5-8Galatians 5:16-18Additional episodes to check out:I Changed My Mind: YogaHow to Keep God at the Center of Your Wellness Journey, Not Your BodyReframing Exercise: Don’t Worship Your Body, but Use Your Body for WorshipKnow that you can always reach out with prayer requests or listener questions by emailing me at reed@fitfeedbyreed.com!Grateful for this free content? One of the most popular times to pop in some headphones and jam out to music is while working out, but what's coming out of those headphones, and how is it affecting your heart? In this episode, I discuss how the Lord has changed my mind on secular workout music and encouraged me to fill my heart (and ears) with uplifting music focused on Him, rather than profane music focused on the things of this world. Gone are the days of me deadlifting to heavy rap music with lyrics about promiscuity and anger. Beyond sharing my own story in this episode, I share 3 steps to seek God's direction in your own workout playlists and offer some encouragement for how fun this journey toward more God-centered playlists can be!The scriptures I referenced in this episode:Proverbs 4:23Colossians 3:5-82 Timothy 1:7Additional episodes to check out:I Changed My Mind: Revealing Workout ClothesI Changed My Mind: On Becoming a MomI Changed My Mind: Finding My Worth in My AppearanceI Changed My Mind: YogaMy Testimony: From Eating Disorder to Empowered DiscipleKnow that you can always reach out with prayer requests or listener questions by emailing me at reed@fitfeedbyreed.com!Thank you for making this show possible. Modesty... the age old Christian topic that many of us don't want to touch because there a lot of ways to interpret what modesty is and is not. In this episode, I share my own personal journey with some recent convictions about modesty that the Lord has placed on my heart. Through the many things He has changed my mind on, I've come to realize that much of the journey of sanctification is simply keeping our hearts open to hear from God and to be willing to be obedient in what He asks of us.  The scriptures I referenced in this episode:2 Corinthians 5:17Romans 12:2Proverbs 31:301 Peter 3:3-41 Timothy 2:9-10Additional episodes to check out:I Changed My Mind: On Becoming a MomI Changed My Mind: Finding My Worth in My AppearanceI Changed My Mind: YogaMy Testimony: From Eating Disorder to Empowered DiscipleKnow that you can always reach out with prayer requests or listener questions by emailing me at reed@fitfeedbyreed.com!Thank you for making this show possible. If you had asked me a decade ago what I thought my life would look like now... I would have imagined myself living in a bustling city, strutting down the sidewalk to my "important" job in perfectly paired heels and pencil skirt, definitely not married, and DEFINITELY not with a child at home. I feel incredibly blessed to be celebrating my first Mother's Day this year (Happy Mother's Day to you too!), but I didn't always plan or desire for my life to look like this. In this episode I share my personal journey from pursuing the "boss babe" life and idolizing career over everything, to accepting Jesus as my Savior, and gaining a new appreciation for marriage and family. I discuss the way God has been working in me to shift toward a God-centered life over a self-centered life and how I am continuing to grow and learn, now as a mother to a sweet baby girl. The scriptures I referenced in this episode:John 17:14-17Genesis 1:28Psalm 127:32 Peter 2:1-3Deuteronomy 6:5-7Additional episodes to check out:I Changed My Mind: Finding My Worth in My AppearanceI Changed My Mind: YogaMy Testimony: From Eating Disorder to Empowered DiscipleBible study suggestion: Experiencing GodLearn more about the Your Yo Yo Diet Upgrade: Build Healthy Habits Course here! We all need regular reminders that we are perfectly made in God's image. In today's world, it is so easy to get wrapped up in finding your worth in your appearance. In this episode, I share my personal journey with idolizing my appearance and releasing that as I grew with God through my 20s; from the bondage of an eating disorder to then idolizing my ability to perform, and finally stepping into the freedom of simply taking care of my body so that I can steward it for God's kingdom. I am by no means perfect at this, so I share 3 specific tactics I use when the devil's words start to creep into my mind. The scriptures I referenced in this episode:Proverbs 31:17, 30John 1:12Mark 10:42-45Additional episodes to check out:I Changed My Mind: YogaMy Testimony: From Eating Disorder to Empowered DiscipleReframing Exercise: Don’t Worship Your Body, but Use Your Body for WorshipKnow that you can always reach out with prayer requests or listener questions by emailing me at reed@fitfeedbyreed.com!Thank you for making this show possible. This episode kicks off a new series, all about various health + wellness topics I've changed my mind on, over the recent years. I'm starting the series with the topic of yoga. In this episode I answer a listener question: When I focus on taking care of my body, sometimes it can consume me and cause God to come second. How can I change that? The ultimate reflection point is where your focus is, which can be easily seen in the way you steward your resources - time, talent, and treasure. This episode breaks down examples, activities, and assessments to understand where your focus is, and ideas for ways to reprioritize God into His well-deserved #1 spot, while still pursuing your health goals! The scriptures I referenced in this episode:Psalm 37:23-24Colossians 3:23-242 Corinthians 10:5Matthew 6:19-21Links to some additional episodes to check out:The Enemy Doesn’t Want You Doing This: 25 Ways to Love Jesus in the Little MomentsWant Results?
