Meet Lincoln Police Chief Teresa Ewins! Beginning in August of 2021 Chief Ewins is the first woman to ever serve at the Chief of Police in Lincoln, Nebraska. She has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, has completed the FBI National Academy; Harvard Kennedy School’s State and Local Government; and the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police. Taking a break is part of being leader and Aakriti and Elsbeth are putting that into practice this summer. We don’t have a new episode for you this month - but we just couldn’t leave you like that! Elsbeth is also the producer and sometimes host of another show, Tech Refactored, and we're delighted to share a special crossover episode! This December on Tech Refactored Elsbeth welcomed Jona Van Deun, the executive director of the Nebraska Tech Collaborative. The collaborative is a a business-led workforce initiative committed to convening leaders from government, education, and not-for-profit organizations across the state to develop, attract, and retain tech-talent and entrepreneurs to Nebraska.Note, while the format of this episode is different and may be more appealing to older listeners, it is appropriate for all ages. 

Meet Ashley Votruba! Dr. Votruba's  research at the University of Nebraska examines how cognitive biases and culture influences legal decision-making in the areas of alternative dispute resolution, tort law, criminal law, and family law. One this episode we learn about Dorothy Denning, a computer scientist and cybersecurity expert who is best known for her work on encryption and security. Elsbeth also interviews Dr. Deanna House, an Assistant Professor in the Information Systems & Quantitative Analysis department in the College of Information Science and Technology at the University of Nebraska Omaha. Her research interests are related to the behavioral aspects of cybersecurity and the protective and preventative measures performed by users and organizations. She is an Assistant Professor of Practice in Management and the Director of Business Development for the Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Nebraska College of Business. One this episode we learn about one of Elsbeth's personal heroes, Eilene Galloway, who was a legend in the fields of space policy and space law - which just so happens to be the field Elsbeth is in! A few months ago Elsbeth interviewed Aakriti to learn more about her background in coding. Meet Deborah Gilg, former U.S. Attorney for the District of Nebraska and the first woman to hold that position! She joined Elsbeth this March, as we bring the Girls Code Lincoln EmpowHER speaker series to the podcast.
