Description

The past year has been full of difficult challenges: the switch to online learning, isolation from our friends and family, political tension, social justice issues, burnout, and a global pandemic that we’re all still trying to get through together.

In this podcast, we’ll talk about how to care for ourselves and each other when things are difficult. We’ll learn some new things, practice some exercises together, and hear from folks in our community about how they care for themselves. So follow us, subscribe, and join us each month for a new topic. We’d love to have you with us.

"R" for Rest

"R" for Rest

2022-03-2940:03

In this episode we define the "R" in "CARES" - rest. While sleep is a very important aspect of rest, the full potential of rest is dynamic and unique to each person.  We begin by discussing rest and then you'll hear a discussion with a current HRS student about what rest looks like for her, and we encourage listeners to think about what rest looks like for them. Our thanks to Gretchen Murray for joining us on this episode.
"A" for Attitude

"A" for Attitude

2022-02-0801:01:29

In this episode we define the "A" in "CARES" - attitude. A quick definition of attitude is that it is a learned tendency to evaluate our experiences, which often includes evaluations of the people, objects and events in our life. We'll also explore the components of attitude, factors that influence attitude, and the nine attitudes of mindfulness.  After that we host a discussion with faculty from the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences all about attitude.
Is it too soon for a special bonus episode? We don't think so. In this episode, we'll try actively practicing self-compassion together with a "Compassion Break" exercise.
It's our first episode! We'll make the case for self-compassion, address some common misgivings, talk about the scientific and cultural roots, and dig into what it really means to be kind to ourselves.
Hi friends and welcome to HRS CARES, a podcast recorded for The Ohio State University School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. I’m Tyler Rogols and I’m one of the embedded mental health counselors in the School of Health and Rehab Sciences.  The past year has been full of difficult challenges: the switch to online learning, isolation from our friends and family, political tension, social justice issues, burnout, and a global pandemic that we’re all still trying to get through together. That’s why we created the HRS CARES campaign, a series of programs and resources to help all of us, students, staff, and faculty, to recover and care for each other. In this podcast, we’ll talk about how to do that, how to care for ourselves and each other when things are difficult. We’ll learn some new things, practice some exercises together, and hear from folks in our community about how they care for themselves. So follow us, subscribe, and join us each month for a new topic. We’d love to have you with us.  Join us for the HRS CARES kickoff event October 28th from 9-11am in the Atwell Hall lobby for therapy animals and popcorn!
