In this episode of The Traveling Therapist Podcast, Kym interviews Ally Rosenberg, a therapist specializing in women's mental health, who is exploring the possibility of living a traveling therapist lifestyle in Quebec. Ally's interest in this lifestyle stems from her partner's career flexibility and citizenship in Canada. Which allows them to consider living in different locations. She discusses her efforts to navigate the complexities of virtual therapy practice across borders, including understanding the specific licensure requirements in different regions.   Ally has been researching the legalities of cross-border virtual practice and has utilized resources like Person-Centered Tech trainings on this topic. She balances her work between community services and private clients to mitigate risks and gain experience. Ally also emphasizes the importance of having liability insurance coverage for cross-border practice, advising direct contact with insurers to understand international coverage specifics.   As for her future plans, Ally remains open to new connections and sharing insights about the process of practicing in Quebec. Her decision between France and Quebec will depend on her partner's job situation, which is expected to be finalized in June. She encourages listeners to reach out to her to discuss these topics further.   Key Points: Navigating Virtual Practice Across Borders: Ally is researching the legal requirements for virtual therapy practice in different states and countries, focusing on understanding the regulations for therapists practicing outside their licensed state. Managing Risks and Gaining Experience: Ally balances her work between community services and private clients to mitigate risks while practicing abroad. She also discusses the importance of liability insurance for cross-border practice and the need for thorough research.   About Ally Rosenberg Ally is a therapist new to private practice and interested in experiencing an amazing career as a therapist while needing to move around for my partner's academic/research career. In her practice, she enjoy empowering women through life's challenges and finding a sense of liberation in their every day life. This episode discusses practicing telehealth across multiple U.S. states. David built his practice to be mobile, working remotely from anywhere, as long as he follows local laws. The COVID pandemic opened up possibilities for how therapists can live and practice post-COVID. He left his clinic job when required to return to full-time in-person work and started his own private practice which is booming!    Amazingly, (to me anyway) The Traveling Therapist Podcast was an inspiration for designing his mobile therapy practice. David plans to work from Tulum, Mexico over New Year's to gain experience practicing telehealth abroad. About David Smith:   David Smith is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and psychotherapist. He is also a Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and Certified Family Trauma Professional. He specialize in working with people and families who have experienced trauma, abuse, divorce, neurodiversity, and other complex life challenges.     Much of his professional experience has been as a school-based therapist in elementary schools.   David is passionate about spending time in nature, especially sailing, scuba diving, and outdoor photography. He traveled to 47 of the 50 US states and 17 other countries on 4 continents. These days he spend a lot of time in Mexico and other parts of Latin America with his wife, who is also a psychotherapist, born and licensed in Peru. Both of them serve clients purely via telehealth, which makes travel much more feasible.   He love to write and have several books in progress – a guide for parents and teachers of children with trauma, another to help healers and caregivers deal with burnout, and just for fun, a historical novel set in 8th-century Constantinople. He is constantly learning and am usually in the middle of some new training program on an aspect of therapy and healing that I find interesting.   Connect with David Smith: Website: www.thrivingfamilytherapy.com Contact: david@thrivingfamilytherapy.com Facebook: www.facebook.com/thrivingfamilytherapy Instagram: @ThrivingFamilyTherapy   Build a thriving private practice with Alma, your private practice support system. In this episode, Mor shares her journey from being a traditional therapist to becoming a traveling therapist, combining her passion for travel and her love for therapy. Mor started traveling internationally alone at a young age and developed a strong desire to see different countries. Originally, her background was in tech, which made it challenging to transition to therapy. Eventually, she pursued her passion and became a therapist, specializing in couples work and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).   Mor discusses how she incorporated her tech background into her therapy career. She currently work for a tech company called Mentaya, where she serves as the head of provider experience and growth. The company offers solutions for therapists who prefer not to handle insurance directly. Therapists can refer their clients to Mentaya, which handles insurance claims, eligibility checks, and streamlines the process for therapists, allowing them to focus on therapy while ensuring accessibility for clients.   The episode highlights the importance of following one's passion and finding creative ways to incorporate therapy into different income streams. It also emphasizes the significance of understanding out-of-network benefits and considering alternative options for reimbursement, especially when working with insurance companies that may not be ideal.   Keypoints: Pursue your passions: Follow your interests and find ways to incorporate them into your career, even if it requires a shift in direction. Explore alternative income streams: Look for creative ways to generate income as a therapist, such as leveraging technology or offering additional services beyond one-on-one client sessions. Understand insurance options: Gain a working understanding of out-of-network benefits and consider utilizing platforms to help streamline insurance processes, reduce logistical strain, and maintain financial sustainability. About Mor Goldberger: Mor Goldberger has an MFT from the Wright Institute and an MBA from Berkeley Haas. By day Mor leads Therapist Experience and Growth for Mentaya and by night she works as a couples therapist. Mor is passionate about helping therapists grow their private pay practice and create more time for themselves.    You can learn more about Mor & Mentaya here Alma is on a mission to simplify access to high-quality, affordable mental health care by giving providers the tools they need to build thriving in-network private parties. This week's episode features Michal Cohen, a psychedelic therapist who helps clients through therapeutic cannabis ceremonies and ketamine therapy. Michal explains how she got into this unique work through trainings in alternative modalities like ganja yoga. She sees immense value in psychedelics for mental health based on her own healing journey.    As a traveling therapist, Mihael has figured out how to guide clients before and after ketamine experiences even when she's abroad long-term. She shares tips for therapist-travelers like vetting accommodations for strong WiFi, researching destinations thoroughly, and staying flexible when plans change. Mihael aims to model a sense of adventure in navigating the inevitability of travel mishaps. She provides an inspiring example of how therapists can blend travel and online work successfully.   Michal grew up in a family that loved to travel! These early travel experiences shaped her to decide to pursue college in CA, even though she grew up in NJ. During college, she traveled to Aix-en-Provence for a semester abroad. Her experience as a student in France was so rewarding, she moved to Italy after graduating and lived there for a year teaching English. She then joined the Peace Corps and went on to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer in both Madagascar and St. Lucia. It was her experience as a Peace Corps Volunteer that led her to pursue a Master's Degree in Social Work at Columbia University. 12 years ago, Michal decided to make her home in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she offers online therapy and in-person psychedelic cannabis journeys.    Michal loves working as an online therapist because it has allowed her to resume travel as a way of life. This past year, she spent 5 weeks in Mexico and she is returning there for another month in October.    Her favorite travel quote is from the movie The Sheltering Sky: "We're not tourists. We're travelers... Oh. What's the difference?... A tourist is someone who thinks about going home the moment they arrive, Whereas a traveler might not come back at all.   https://michalcohen.squarespace.com/ https://www.instagram.com/the_take_a_trip_therapist/  Episode Key Points:    Michal models flexibility when travel plans change, approaching mishaps with a sense of adventure rather than frustration. Michal entered psychedelic therapy through trainings in alternative modalities seeing immense value from her own mental health journey. As a traveling therapist, Michal meets ketamine clients remotely before and after clinic experiences or guides at-home oral ketamine journeys.
