Description

The world absolutely didn't need another podcast about the band Phish, and we answered. Two people who saw their first show 10 years ago decided that their absurd phone conversations regarding Phish shows needed to be heard by the world. We listen to random shows and rank each song on a scale of 1 to 5 "phins" (don't worry, we're mostly effusive). We go off on tangents. If you want expert or inside analysis, look elsewhere. If you wanna hear two college buddies have esoteric Phish arguments, why not waste your time with us?

Set 1 is Gamehendge. Set 2 is Hoist. Both Kev and Dan freak out. C'mon just listen!Pheel Phree to email usphivephinsmailbag@gmail.com
Kev and Dan set up the Phish studio album (close to Kev's heart) "Hoist", before...
Kev and Dan were all set to start the new year with a podcast about the GameHoist show. They were going to do a two part episode where the first part set up Trey's senior thesis "The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday" (aka the Gamehendge tape) and also about Hoist as an album. Then, something interesting happened in the 12/31/23 Phish show and all our plans went (AMAZINGLY I MIGHT ADD) right out the window. So here is us on December 23rd, 2023 SPECIFICALLY TALKING ABOUT THE 1987 TAPE made by Trey (more non-specific hyperbole to follow in Pt. 2, don't worry) Happy New Years to any listeners who are still with us!! Kev and Dan are back to break down the earliest show we've done yet; It's Phish in 1989! Coming on the heels of an historic show at the Paradise in Boston, this show finds the band early in their transition from a Burlington bar band to the monster touring act we know and love. Highlights include a memorable version of "You Enjoy Myself", "Sanity" played in the rare fast arrangement, great covers of "La Grange" "On Your Way Down" and "Whipping Post", and a manic "David Bowie". Mostly though, they're here to talk about brass tacks, Werner Herzog and the complete history of the slot machine.Pheel Phree to email us!phivephinsmailbag@gmail.com
Kev and Dan are back to break down Phish show from Charlotte in 2010! Highlights include "Vultures" (which Kev is always excited for), solid renditions of "The Lizards" and "You Enjoy Myself", and a surprise performance of "Mexican Cousin". The main highlight however is the biggest bust-out in Phish history; a performance of the fan-favorite and obscenity-laced Phish classic "Fuck Your Face", which hadn't been heard live since 1987! Mostly though, they're here to perfect their New Zealand accents and give tips on how to win the balloon dart game at the fair.Pheel Phree to email us!phivephinsmailbag@gmail.com
Kev and Dan are back to break down the 1994 Cincinnati show in which the fire alarm went off! Taking place only one day before the show recorded for LivePhish vol. 10, highlights of this memorable evening include Trey trying to convince Phish phans not to smoke (good luck), stellar renditions of "My Friend, My Friend" and Jimi Hendrix's "Fire" (get it?), and an all-time (and atypical) "Split Open and Melt". Mostly though, we're here to debate the relative merits of Chicken Limbo and Gator Golf. Our March episode will cover the 07.02.2010 showPheel Phree to email us!phivephinsmailbag@gmail.com
Happy New Year Phive Phinnigans! Kev and Dan are back to break down Phish's first night in Chicago on the 2018 Fall Tour! Highlights include a great "Reba", exploratory versions of "Mercury" and "Golden Age", and a stellar "Tweezer". Mostly though, they're here to discuss what diners don't need, those big bags of candy you get at the mall, and which Harry Potter character would be the best to rage a show with. Plus, a discussion on America's hottest topic...is Phish now just too good?Pheel Phree to email us!phivephinsmailbag@gmail.com
Kev and Dan are back to break down the show from Boulder Theater in Boulder, Colorado from 1991! Highlights include a show opening "Fluffhead", stellar versions of "Divided Sky", "Esther" and "You Enjoy Myself", and an all-time "Reba". Mostly though, they debate the merits of the Phin system , The Muppets, and the potentially pernicious motives of Fun Dip.Pheel Phree to email us!phivephinsmailbag@gmail.com
Kev and Dan are back to break down the second show from St. Louis from 2019, a night where Phish just happened to be in the St. Louis Blues home arena as they were winning the Stanley Cup! Highlights of this memorable evening include an all time version of Loving Cup (get it?), spectacular versions of "Mr. Completely" and "Twist", and a performance of the Blues' victory song; Laura Branigan's "Gloria". Mostly though, Dan is here to drop an incredibly hot Phish take! You'll want to be seated for this one.(Programming note: we apologize for the long wait between episodes. Beginning in December, Phive Phins will be released on the first day of each month)Pheel Phree to email us!phivephinsmailbag@gmail.com
Kev and Dan are back to break down the first night at Deer Creek from 1999. Highlights include a rare live performance of "My Left Toe" leading into a bustout of "Whipping Post", great versions of "Birds of A Feather" and "Run Like an Antelope", and a wacky and memorable "Makisupa Policeman". Really though, they're here to discover which one is on the motorcycle and which one is in the sidecar.Pheel Phree to email us! (about anything really)phivephinsmailbag@gmail.com
On the (potentially) exciting tenth episode of Phive Phins, Kev and Dan talk about a show they were actually at!! This show was Phish's return to the Glens Falls Civic Center 19 years after their legendary 1994 Halloween performance, which included them covering covering The Beatles ”The Beatles” (aka The White Album) in its entirety. Not only did this show feature incredible covers of tracks from the White Album, it also contained great versions of ”Undermine”, ”Split Open and Melt” and ”Harry Hood”. The shows biggest highlight is without a doubt a legendary performance of ”Twist”, highlighting the bands strengths in 2013 as well as hinting at directions the band would head in years to follow. Mostly though, we're here to discuss a hot dog vendor, talking to a nice older couple, and the fact that we love people in Finland and we hope they know what mozzarella sticks are.Pheel Phree to email us! (about anything, really)phivephinsmailbag@gmail.com
Kev and Dan are back to break down the first night of Jones Beach from 2012 (which they had tickets to... its a long story). Highlights include "Golden Age", "Run Like An Antelope" and (much to Dan's chagrin) "Sand". Mostly though, they're here to add a new element to the Phive Phins ranking system! It's not super complicated. We hope.Pheel Phree to email us! phivephinsmailbag@gmail.com
Kev and Dan zip up their tent, grab a couple cold Zimas and head back to the concert grounds at Lemonwheel night 2! Highlights include "Ghost", "Down with Disease" and "Wilson" (and the other songs too really). Mostly though, they're hot like an oven, and they need your lovin' (platonically of course).
Kev and Dan break down the second night of Alpharetta in fall 2016, which includes a great "Simple" and outstanding "Fuego". Mostly though, they are here to play an incredibly esoteric Phish Game Show!
In a very special episode (we hope), Kev and Dan break down night 1 of Phish's 1998 Lemonwheel Festival. Though sometimes lost in the shuffle of the great festivals in the 90s, Lemonwheel contains many highlights. Among those in night 1 is an all-time version of "Gumbo", a crazy "David Bowie" and a stellar "Limb by Limb" before the night concluded with the "Ambient Jam". Mostly though, they try to get the people on the ferris wheel sick.
Kev and Dan break down the Sunday Phish show from Chicago in 2014, which includes an all-time version of "The Wedge" and an excellent version of "Ghost(apaug)". Mostly though, Kev tries to not get struck by lightning and Dan continues producing inscrutable inside jokes.
Kev and Dan break down a show from the Spring 2000 Japan tour, which includes great versions of "Free", "Stash" and "Harry Hood". Mostly though, they once again wonder why we cant pronounce venue names and towns. We apologize in advance.
Kev and Dan break down the New Haven show in the legendary fall 1995 tour, which includes a great "Tweezer" and early versions of several Phish staples. Mostly though, they talk about Van Hagar. (Also Kev gets 1 phin for turning his normal mic on, sorry about that)
Kev and Dan break down the show that happened right before Bakers Dozen, which includes some hidden gems and stellar versions of "Prince Caspian" and "Mr. Completely". Mostly though, they are here to announce the soft launch of their new smash hit podcast "All things Omaha".
Kev and Dan talk about the Phish show from June 25, 1997 but mostly just try to figure out how to pronounce the venue name.
