I've been trying a new routine these past few weeks. Ultimately I realized being flexible is not for me. I need a rigid schedule to stay on task and be successful. For me, I cant help but feel like my experiment was just weakness. I am reminded of a quote I wrote down some time ago, "Its ok to be weak, but its never ok to stay weak." Weakness is not an option...

Today I talk about my morning run in the rain. I've had many mornings like this, but my recent training cycles have been pretty mild. I was reminded of my early days in training getting through harsh weather. It prepared my mind for some difficult moments and races. Looking forward to warmer, wetter weather...

I quit...

I quit...

2022-05-0908:37

This episode was recorded on March 14th and has sat on my desktop ever since. Call it procrastination. Call it lack of motivation(I hate that word), but I never released it. There was a bit of a change of heart after the David Goggins 4x4x48 and I needed to get everything off my chest. Running has given me so much, its hard to walk away from it. In this episode, I discuss the potential of hanging up my running shoes for something different. If you follow me on social media you know that I've been very busy these past 8 weeks...
On this episode of the podcast, we recap the David Goggins 4x4x48 Challenge. I knew going in this was going to be a tough event. I anticipated becoming fatigued over the two days. What I underestimated was what lack of sleep would do to me. As time went on I began to second guess myself, but ultimately pulled together to mentally finish the miles. This was an important lesson to learn as our minds can trick us into submission. I was thankful to get through and raise almost $3000 for St. Jude in the process. Looking forward to future events that challenge me both physically and mentally.
In this episode of the Former Fat Dad Podcast, we discuss my current training and upcoming events. I am preparing for the David Goggins 4x4x48 on March 4th. For this event, I will run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours to raise money for St. Jude. Click to support. I am also training for the upcoming Flying Pig Marathon on May 1st.  We also discuss current supplements I am taking/representing.  Huma Gel Bucked Up Code 'FFD20' for 20% off your order
Embrace suffering

Embrace suffering

On this episode of the Former Fat Dad Podcast, we discuss my love/hate relationship with running. Chipping away at a 10k program and ultimately competing in a half marathon, I found myself wanting more. I read David Goggin's book “Can’t Hurt Me” and considered it my bible through those early runs. My new motto became "On the other end of suffering is the true growth of life."
In this episode we discuss how I was able to find my discipline. I picked up a copy of Jocko Willink's book, Decline Equals Freedom, and was mind blown at what I was reading. Could I really change my life by simply waking up early and ignoring the urge to rely on motivation? As time went on and I trusted the advice from this former Navy Seal, something started to happen. I no longer cared if I "felt like it", I just did it. Repetition after repetition and simply showing up yielded the results I had spent years trying to "hack".

In episode 1 of the Former Fat Dad Podcast I discuss how I started my weight loss and fitness journey. We talk about the death of my closest friend and how dealing with that led me to make a complete life change. Giving up vices to be able to move forward was part of my path, and I dive briefly into that. We wrap up with a call to action to challenge yourself to make a plan and stick to it for 30 days.  Follow me on Instagram  @formerfatdadruns @formerfatdadpodcast
