Gold, silver and Bitcoin have had a rough 2026, and some say the bull run's over, or at least on pause. But governments are still buried in debt, the Treasury is buying back its own bonds, the 10-year yield is back above 5%, and inflation isn't going away. Lawrence Lepard, author of The Big Print, joins the show to talk rates, sound money, and central banks. We cover whether higher inflation or a currency reset comes first, what Judy Shelton's Treasury role might signal, gold versus Bitcoin, and how everyday investors can protect their wealth. My guest today is Ashley Church. You'll probably know him as one of New Zealand's best-known property commentators, and he's a regular voice on politics too. He's a former CEO of the Property Institute of New Zealand and the Auckland Property Investors Association, a past Chairman of the Taxpayers' Union, and the author of Prophecy Shock, a new book that takes a fresh look at Bible prophecy.Book in a free 15-min phone call with Darcy Ungaro (financial adviser).Sign up to the fortnightly newsletter!Thank You Swyftx: With over 1 million customers across New Zealand and Australia. Will raising interest rates make inflation worse? The OCR won’t fix an oil shock. Central banks, including the RBNZ, can create too much currency and crush demand, but they can’t print oil. When energy prices jump and stay high, raising rates mostly hits mortgage holders and businesses who use debt to grow - is it really wise to squeeze the part of the economy responsible for growth? In this conversation I talk with Christoph Schumacher, Professor of Economics and Innovation at Massey University, co-creator of GDPLive, and author of 'Sitting on the shoulders of giants'. Yields have already climbed to levels last seen in 2002 but most investors are still banking on the post-Covid inflation being a temporary spike. That was a solid assumption, but at almost a third of the way back to the 1981 highs, could it be time to look at this? I have sat across from hundreds of people with an inheritance coming, and almost always they make one of two mistakes. The less common one is when people take their foot off the gas - The knowledge of money coming justifies no budget, no discipline, no plan. Black holes for intergenerational wealth. The second mistake is worse, and I think it often comes from a decent instinct. People live like the money is never going to come. They play it safe. What if an inheritance didn't work as a safety net, but a permission slip?Book in a free 15-min phone call with Darcy Ungaro (financial adviser).Sign up to the fortnightly newsletter!Thank You Swyftx: With over 1 million customers across New Zealand and Australia.
