This week it's all about Ma and the cringe factor. So inappropriate and all kinds of wrong in this movie. However, we couldn't help but love Octavia Spencer's performance. Do we give her a pass? Tune in and listen to us discuss Ma and a real world connection with a hero teenager out of Mississippi. It's another two-fer episode! Ringu, the Japanese original, vs Ring, the American remake. We thought it'd be fun to get into both movies seeing as we were obviously going to start talking about one if discussing the other. We have opinions, lots of them. In addition to good movie conversations, we also get all biblical on your butts with a little Talmud talk. Tune in and find out how that naturally happened. We're back! Season 4 is still underway with Women in Horror! This week we bring you two movies for the price of one, free that is. Casa Muda and The Silent House, an Uruguayan horror flick and its American remake are up for discussion. We also hop in the time machine and had back to 1940s Uruguay. We're on a break, and not in the Rachel and Ross kinda way. New episodes return after the Holidays, but we decided we wanted to share a few of our favorite episodes from the past 2 years. This week's reshared episode is our discussion on Sweetheart. Check it out and check out the movie before it leaves Netflix (Dec. 2022)! What do you get when you put a strong AF woman and a sexy sea creature in the same movie? A fight for survival during a shipwrecked getaway. Alma and Dalia discuss proper castaway attire and how Alma is not fit to be your survival buddy. During this week's Real World Connection we head off to Tokelau and tell the survival story of 3 teenage boys lost at sea for 51 days. We're on a break, and not in the Rachel and Ross kinda way. New episodes return after the Holidays, but we decided we wanted to share a few of our favorite episodes from the past 2 years. This episode, an interview with Gerardo Preciado, was originally shared Sept. 24, 2021. Since then, Gerardo has remained busy creating and we thought it'd be a great episode to re-share. Audio is not our finest work, sorry, but it's still such a fun discussion and we feel you'll enjoy it as much as we did. Ginger Snaps! This is honestly one of those movies where you can just say the name and everyone will instantly get all kinds of mood. Mood, yes. It's a thing. This entire movie is a mood. We absolutely adore Ginger Snaps, the sister characters (because duh, we're sisters), and the awesome Canadian-ness of this wonderful flick. If you haven't watched this one yet you absolutely must. If it's been awhile, go now. Watch it! And also listen to us talk about it of course. This week’s episode, we are celebrating and discussing the movie “A Girl Walks Home Alone at NIght”. If you haven’t yet watched this flick from Ana Lily Amirpour, seek it out now and watch. It’s moody, it’s fun, and full of great performances. Dalia also comes back at us with a Real World Connection! It’s been awhile, and we’ve missed these so much. Tune in to this episode to hear our thoughts on this spaghetti western vampire flick! Episode 3 in our Season 4: Women of Horror, we get to discuss the 1982 movie "The Slumber Party Massacre". So much going on here. Is this a campy slasher flick or exploitation film? We discuss the movie, what's going on behind the scenes, plus Dalia's encounter with a stranger before we hit record. Ooh, color me intrigued. We will be the first to admit that the horrible marketing campaign for Jennifer's Body worked on one of our hosts. We actually didn't watch it until this year. I know, sorry! And unfortunately we were not hip to the incredible job that Megan Fox did with the poor misunderstood character of Jennifer until the ripe old age of now. We're kinda Team Jennifer here on 5th Street...boooooo "Needy". Seriously, though. We dig deep into the discussion of how 20th Century Fox screwed up the PR campaign, the so-so writing of this now cult classic, and how Megan Fox alone is what made this movie watchable. Film Summary: A newly-possessed high-school cheerleader turns into a succubus who specializes in killing her male classmates. Can her best friend put an end to the horror? Okay, actually I do know but not spoiling it for you in the show notes. Kicking off the new season with this 1962 twisted tale of sibling rivalry gone too far. Joan Crawford and Bette Davis left their personal drama at the door to create even spicier drama on screen. We discuss this classic along with the demands and expectations placed on these two powerhouse women. Old Hollywood, New Hollywood, ridiculous beauty standards, and the talent...oh the talent. You all are in for a treat! We had our wonderful neighbors from A Nightmare on Fierce Street over for a sleepover. Well, not technically or literally, but you know what we're getting at here. It was a good time. Sharai and Trent from Fierce Street came over and we discussed the French horror flick, High Tension (Haute Tension). We got stuff to say, people, so you need to tune in. We have a great conversation about Queer horror and mental health representation in movies, plus we even break out our screenwriting skills to offer up a great movie idea.  Movie summary: Best friends Marie and Alexia decide to spend a quiet weekend at Alexia's parents' secluded farmhouse. We're back! Season 3 is here and it's QUEER! We kick off the new year and our new season with the 1932 black and white flick, The Old Dark House. We discuss our main man Frankenstein, because of course. We also get into the obvious and subtexts of queer representation in older movies. I mean, it wasn't always hidden when it came to cinema. Dalia talks about her homie Boynton and we conclude that the new year is going to be amazing. Join us for this discussion and don't forget to follow and leave a review! https://www.nightmaremoviepodcast.com/reviews/new Movie Summary: The Old Dark House is a 1932 American pre-Code comedy horror film directed by James Whale. Based on the 1927 novel Benighted by J.B. Priestley, the film is set in interwar Wales, and follows five travellers who seek shelter from a violent storm in the decaying country house home of the eccentric Femm family.
