Climb aboard the Orca as we take a Slow Burn (or maybe it's a Slow Soak) of Jaws and Peter Benchley's novel that started it all. Then we'll set sail with those that came after, the sequels and copycats. We break down the story arcs of the Jaws film and novel, Jaws 2, Jaws 3D and Jaws the Revenge. We discuss Pirahna and Orca, Sharknado and the Land Shark (he's just a dolphin, ma'am).

Join Bill and Chad as they take a stroll through the dumpster fire of remakes and how Hollywood needs to just stop it. Next, they take a look at the robots we were promised and still haven't received. Lastly, they take a hard look at a ridiculous prophecy that isn't really a prophecy. Imagine: "Behold a pale horse..." and then some idiot says, oh, my god the Lone Ranger beheld a pale horse named Silver! Eeeeerie." Dumb.

Settle into a seat next to Bill, grab your popcorn (don't cut a hole in the bottom of the bucket because Bill won't fall for that twice!) and get ready for Chad's terrifying campfire tale of the Friday the 13th 12-movie story arc!
Can you believe there's been 12 Friday the 13th movies in this slasher franchise out to scare the Jason Voorhees out of you? Well, there has and they are crap! Or mostly crap. If you're a die-hard fan of the franchise, we're sorry to hurt your feelings but too bad - just like this franchise - it's toooo baaad.
Chad took a machete for the team and suffered through nine of them. Find out which three weren't that painful. Which ones made his blood boil, which one left him cold and which one was like a puck in the face! Find out why this franchise is a time capsule for a female body part - and which one? How many degrees of Kevin Bacon is Jason Voorhees? Is Jason afraid of the water? Why is Michael Myers so much better and why didn't they call Jason X: "Spacin' Jason X"?
So, take a break from all of that irresponsible sex, make sure all of your campers aren't drowning in Crystal Lake and pull on your fisherman's sweater because you'll no longer be required to watch all of these movies in order to get your hunting season machete license. Bill insisted this not be referred to as comprehensive history but still Chad did all the viewing for you, your fraidy cats, and almost answers all of these questions.
P.S. Can you believe Chad's Aunt Monique didn't know Jason's last name? She asked him and when he told her she was in disbelief, asking where they had said this subtle off-handed script note. Sheesh.

Chad and Bill dive into the greatness of Michael Myers and his top-of-the-heap slasherpalooza Halloween movies.
Next, they take a hard look at why the trend of rooting for the bad guy is taking over the temperament of movie-goers in current times. Are people just so sick of the world that the antagonist is today's protagonist? That explains Trump.
Finally, it's time to look both ways before crossing the street because them cars is possessed. It is not a good time for chickens to be crossing roads.

There's a dearth of genuine people in Hollywood; Canadian actor-comedian John Candy was surely one of them. Larger than life on the screen, Candy passed away from a heart attack in 1994. But in his formidalbe wake he left a library of quality movies and television, so in this episode Bill and Chad remember such classics as Uncle Buck, Summer Rental, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, and others.
Show Notes:
03:39 - Uncle Buck.
06:03 - The language of real life.
07:08 - By way of comparison: Uncle Buck vs. Parenthood.
11:38 - Really hits home watching the movie after having kids.
13:56 - Losing John Candy was like losing a close friend.
14:53 - Johnny LaRue
16:04 - The toothpick guy.
18:30 - One problem with Uncle Buck.
19:25 - Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
21:37 - YOU'RE GOING THE WRONG WAY!!
24:43 - Summer Rental.
30:49 - Stripes.
36:13 - The Great Outdoors. (I meant to say spin cycle, not rinse cycle - Bill)
43:13 - Only the Lonely + the unbearable 'acting' of Ally Sheedy.
46:19 - By way of comparison: Molly Ringwald.
49:55 - The Canadian Conspiracy.

We talk it out in this episode, and for a positive spin Chad also points out some quality movies and TV shows he's been watching.

People are asking, "Why make a Han Solo prequel movie?" Disney answers, "Where is the money, Lebowski?" So here we are reviewing a movie that doesn't really have a reason for existing. Or maybe, it exists so that we can review it! So we did that.

Movie critics are people (until A.I. takes over), and sometimes people make terrible mistakes... like atomic weaponry, President Donald Trump, and now the movie reviews for Bright, starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton as a human and orc cop team out to save the world from devious, magical elves. David Ayers' alternate world buddy-cop film drew heavy fire from critics, but is it deserved? Chad and Bill dive deep to illuminate you on this Netflix original movie. The usual caveat: we give our typical very thorough look at the film and its meanings, so SPOILER ALERT!
Show Notes:
01:23 - Did we mention that critics suck?
06:02 - The Suicide Squad effect.
07:58 - More great worldbuilding.
11:51 - The story of Bright.

29:53 - The unused wife.
31:55 - Funny scene: Jakoby spills the beans.

This is part 2 of our review of Steven Spielberg's nostalgia-porn movie Ready Player One. In it we lament the lack of any real danger or even drama in the film, as well as laugh at its lack of knowledge of the actual nature of online gaming, and discuss how the changing nature of copyright and IP management these days has made this film easier to make. All this, and much more in the last of our two-parter on Ready Player One. Plus, it's dangerous to go alone, so take this warning along with you as you listen to this episode: we take a deep dive into the movie and explore many plot points, so be pepared for MANY SPOILERS!

Ready Player One is so stuffed with pop-culture references, and our derision so strong for this hollow exercise, we can't even fit our review into one Nerdstalking episode! Log in and listen to Part. 1 of our review as we slag director Steven Spielberg for not understanding video games, knock the world-building of the film as being as shaky as the Stacks, and lament about the lack of heart in the film, among other complaints. And you might even find a couple of positive comments in here too; consider them the Easter eggs you have to search for. As usual here at Nerdstalking, we give the movie a thorough going over and dive deep into what it is and what it means, so also be on the search for MANY, MANY SPOILERS!
Show Notes:
01:19 - Will they start patching movies next?
03:37 - Steven Spielberg: out of touch.
05:59 - Bill's favourite line of the movie.
07:33 - The real problem with video games these days.
11:27 - A case study in better world-building: Alexander Payne's Downsizing.
19:58 - Would the kids of this near-future give a shit about all this retro stuff?
29:31 - Missing in action: any character arcs.
36:13 - The movie lacks a solid heart.
41:51 - So much exposition!
43:24 - The best part of the movie: the Shining sequence.
Thanks for listening! Tune in next week for the conclusion!

What happens if you take TRON, mix it with The Last Starfighter, and throw in a pinch of references to every SF movie and video game of the last 30 years or so? You get Steven Spielberg's latest flick Ready Player One, based on Ernest Cline's love-letter-to-videogames novel of the same name. We anticipate the release of the film with all the giddy glee of kids waiting in line for Back to the Future in 1985. I realize this presentation is an assault on the visual senses, but this is the full version of the TV play of Bertolt Brecht's Baal, by David Bowie. My recommendation to you is to zoom in to the window on the bottom left that contains the video, so you don't see any of the effects that are designed to throw off the content ID algorithyms of Google. As far as I can see, this is the only post of the TV show in its entirety. And the immense creative power of Bowie is not diminished by reducing the image. No Earthly confinement could ever do that:
