You often wonder what people did to become successful—whether they had it easy and caught a stroke of luck or just plain persevered until they surmounted their obstacles—and what you can learn from their experience. Each week we explore inspiring stories of struggle, success, and solutions to prevalent problems and how guests turn problems into opportunities.

Episodes cover a diverse range of topics and focus on fascinating stories including how to manage stress and anxiety, how to improve communication skills, how to create a career in entertainment, how to build resilience, future trends in the music business, the importance of play and adventure for adults, and more.

Until the 1980s, a lot of what we bought was made here from companies based here in the US.  Now?  Not so much.  Sure, we still make plenty of stuff, but there are a lot of things we used to make here, entire categories of stuff, that we just don’t anymore.  From what I understand similar situations have played out in the UK and other countries, too.  Why is that?  What happened? Refrigerators— things that used to have an expected life of 15 years at the minimum— aren't lasting like they used to. Here's why.  @stevelehto  just posted a video about the epidemic of bad refrigerators last week, and because I’m weird, I wanted to expand upon that and dig into why things aren’t lasting like they used to. If you’ve bought a new fridge recently or are thinking about buying one, here’s why it might not last as long as your old one…and by extension how you can improve your chances of getting one that does. Are EVs Worth It?

Are EVs Worth It?

2024-01-2612:23

Are electric vehicles from Tesla, GM, Polestar, BYD, Volkswagen, and the like over-hyped? Are they "worth it" for the planet and your wallet? Watch this episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/ZSkEs5JxE0Q Electric cars are becoming more and more common. If you live in a major city, they’re everywhere, and they’ve got a lot going for them. Imagine never having to visit a gas station, or anything resembling one, except when you go on a road trip. With an electric car, you just walk out of your house in the morning, unplug, and you’ve got a full tank. If you drive your car approximately 11,000 miles a year, the average miles traveled per vehicle in the US according to the latest available numbers from 2021, or about 30 miles per day, you probably don’t even have to charge more than a few times a week. And if you’ve got solar panels on your house, you can feel all warm and snuggly that you’re charging your car with clean energy. Sounds awesome! But are they right for everyone? How to Get More Sleep

How to Get More Sleep

2023-10-2308:07

It’s 3am. You’re tossing and turning, trying to fall back asleep. You look at the clock again, it’s only been 10 minutes since the last time you checked, but you know you’ve gotta get up at 6, so you need to get to sleep NOW. What do you do? 25% of Americans experience insomnia every year, though it’s often due to something temporary like being sick or stressing over money, your job, or your family. Chances are good you’ve had times in your life when you’ve had trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or falling back to sleep after you’ve woken up. If it happens three times a week or more for three months or longer, you’ve got chronic insomnia. Temporary or chronic, though, there are several steps you can take to help yourself reliably get a better night’s sleep. What is it that millionaires are doing that you and I aren’t? Why aren’t we doing it too? I’m not interested in accumulating a bunch of money to have a bunch of useless stuff, I want it for the security that it’ll provide, to one day be financially independent where I work because I want to, not because I have to. Since nearly 80% of millionaires received no inheritance at all, it's clear millionaires are made not born, and a lot of how they’re made seems to come down to habit. Here are five simple habits I've observed many millionaires have adopted and you can too! I just finished reading the new biography of Elon Musk by Walter Isaacson.  Love him or hate him, Elon Musk seems to be everywhere with a hand in everything.  He’s the richest person in the world, with an estimated net worth of either $249 Billion or $226 Billion depending on who does the estimating.  And between Twitter, now X, SpaceX, Tesla, The Boring Company, OpenAI, X.Ai., and PayPal, he’s probably been involved in something that currently touches your life or will in the near future, especially if he gets his way.   Note: I totally pulled a Musk myself— this episode was supposed to launch on Monday, but after reading the book last week I grossly underestimated how long it would take to make an episode about it...hopefully you like it! I'm trying something different again and telling a little story about my own personal experience.  You can also watch this episode on YouTube for your entertainment pleasure here: https://youtu.be/vxhB0PNaLnI  How many times have you seen some bank bonus offer and thought, hey, free money! And then when you look at how hard it’ll be to jump through whatever hoops they’ve put in place you wonder if it it’ll be worth the time you’ll spend on it? In the last few months I’ve qualified for 6 welcome bonus offers, had checking accounts with 5 different banks, and opened 4 new credit cards. I don’t really consider myself a points-maximizing credit card fiend or anything, in fact I’ve been trying to simplify my financial life, not make it more complicated by spreading myself thin. I’ve been searching for a new bank…and trying to get the most value out of shifting my business…cause hey, if there’s money on the table, why not?
