Description

“Indigenous Women Being” is a creative expression of Indigenous women, a podcast celebrating us in all our beautiful dimensions. Grounded in motivation to counter the invisibilization of Indigenous women in Canada (as demonstrated by the continued murder and disappearance of Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit peoples), this podcast aims to provide a safe space where Indigenous women and those who identify as Indigenous women can be heard and share their unique gifts with the world. Join me as we discuss ideas surrounding gender, sexuality, politics and culture to demonstrate how these forces shape our experiences in settler-colonial nation-states.

In this first episode, I speak to Penina Sara-Lynn Harding of Esk'etemc First Nation found in the central interior of what is now referred to as British Columbia, Canada.  A PhD candidate for the University of Northern British Columbia, Penina discusses her influences in life and how she maintains balance between her children, community, school and work. We talk about what it's like to be an Indigenous woman in Canada and what our world could look like without Canada's oppressive Indian Act of 1876.Find Penina on:TikTok and Twitter @ academic_auntyIG @ penina_and_her_phd
