This week we have...A New Year with Mike and Bill! Same old stuff, different year.Mike started out with his reading and it was about blame and hiding. We were always good at that before we got sober and it could be an easy trap to fall back into. It was a good conversation.We chatted about some medical stuff, New Year's Resolutions, Dry January, Mike's trip to see classic stuff from MAD Magazine, triggers and glimmers, detaching, expressing your feelings, geographicals, Jim Beam shutting down and becoming more difficult with age. This week we have...Same old hosts, different week.Mike started out with his reading and it was about allowing others to give and not being afraid to ask for help. Those can be hard things for people like us and it was a good conversation.There was a horrible (but funny) holiday story, we heard a great quote about fear, talked about faith over fear, the show Brockmire, comparing ourselves to others, and people on the bubble.We also talked about Rob Reiner and his wife. We try to live that way every day and hopefully it shows.Mike started out with his reading and it was about saying thank you. Those are two very simple words, but do we use them enough? Do we truly appreciate when someone is kind to us? It takes work to be kind and we should say thank you more often. This week we have...Mike and Bill, doing this thing that they do.Mike started out with something a little different. It was reading, but it was actually from a speech that Dr. Bob gave in Cleveland, in July of 1950. He talked about AA, the simplicity of the program and keeping it that way. He also talked about kindness, consideration and tolerance. It was a great thing to hear and discuss.We chatted about family events. Mike was with family last weekend for an early Thanksgiving and Bill was able to get together with his kids.Then it was self care, do we do enough for others, hiding away in early sobriety, feeling sorry for ourselves and Patton Oswalt. We both enjoy him and he's a fellow atheist. Apparently he and Mike hang out at the meetings. We wrapped up with a story about an artificial intelligence teddy bear that got naughty. This week we have...Yep, it's us again, Mike and Bill. And buckle up, because we had a lot to talk about.Mike started out with his reading and it was about letting go and hanging on. Which is better and which is worse? Could they be interchangeable? It was a great topic and we had a good conversation. Then we had a brief conversation about John Candy. There is a documentary out now about his life and we are both fans. We don't know if he was an alcoholic or if maybe he just had addictive tendencies, but he acted a lot like one of us.Next was some fairly big news. About 2 1/2 weeks ago, Bill had a "cardiac event," and we just call it what it was. A heart attack. It's not really a joking matter, but of course we found some humor in it. It's what we do.
