In this interview, we talk with Executive Coaches, Jeff Nally and Kimcee McAnally who are the authors of an article in our March issue “Journey to Excellence” entitled:  Coaching Supervision in Organizations ~ A game-changer to improve the impact of coaching. The thought of working with an experienced coach to support leaders is a well-accepted practice across corporations and industries around the world. Leaders readily engage with coaches during leadership transitions, challenging situations, and to enhance their own skills as leaders in their organizations. But who takes care of and develops the coach? Often times, coaches are independent and run their own business, fending for themselves when it comes to their own self-care and personal development. Coaching supervision is a well-established practice in many parts of the world to support the coaches themselves as they coach organizational leaders. The purpose of coaching supervision is to enable coaches to introspectively look at themselves, how they coach, and about their professional health as a coach. As a result, coaches are better able to develop and enhance their own skills so they can better support the leaders and organizations. According to a 2021 publication, “The role of the supervisor is that of a supporter… in the professional development journey and not that of an assessor” (Hemmer et al.)In this podcast, we will discuss supervision – how it works, the benefits, and how to incorporate coaching supervision for yourself as a coach, or in an organization.Dr. Kimcee McAnally is an accredited Coach Supervisor and Partner at CoachSource. Her background includes extensive executive level business experience; academic qualifications (Ph.D. & M.S. in Organizational Psychology, B.S. in Psychology); coaching certification (EMCC European Individual Accreditation/EIA Senior Practitioner), and accredited Coach Supervisor (EMCC ESIA European Supervision Individual Accreditation). Kimcee is passionate about coaching and supervision and contributes to the industry through research, publications, and conference presentations. Kimcee co-authored the book, "Executive Coaching for Results: the Definitive Guide for Developing Organizational Leaders," published by Berrett-Koehler and recent chapters in “Innovations in Leadership Coaching” and “Coaching Supervision: Voices from the Americas.Jeff Nally is an executive coach, coaching supervisor, and professional speaker inspiring leaders and coaches through the neuroscience of human interaction. In this interview, we talk with Master Mentor Coach, Clare Norman, about her article " Un-learning - The key to mentor coaching." Before we became coaches, we each developed ways of seeing the world that kept us safe or gave us a sense of belonging to the "tribe," whether that tribe was a family system, a peer group, or our coach training cohort. The best coaching works on the “who” of the thinker, so that the “what” falls into place with ease (per Marcia Reynolds in Coach the Person, Not the Problem). The same holds true for learning to coach. The best training and the best mentor coaching work on the “who” of the coach, their beliefs, mindsets and paradigms, so that the “what” of the coaching competencies falls into place with ease.In this podcast, we will discuss what mentor coaching is, why we need to change our our mindsets and how we can apply them to our coaching practices.  With over 20 years of coaching experience, Clare Norman MCC is highly sought after by other expert coaches, as well as successful coach training companies as a Master Mentor Coach. Clare looks to continually sharpen individuals’ coaching edge and upskill mentor coaches so they can deliver high-quality feedback to their coaches-in-development.Her laser focus on mindset shifts and her knack for spotting marginal gains has made her a go-to person for coaches looking for mentorship and practical, meaningful ways to improve their practice. With an international following of both her coaching peers and senior leadership, Clare is making a difference to the world of work via the professional application of coaching.Join us as we learn more about mentor coaching and how to apply it in professional coaching.Watch the full interview by clicking here.Find the full article here: https://bit.ly/btp-normanConnect with Clare at https://www.linkedin.com/in/clare-norman-pcc or write to her at clare@clarenormancoachingassociates.com.We invite you to access Clare's gift to you ~ How to enhance your coaching by listening to recordings, an extract from The Transformational Coach: Free Your Thinking and Break Through to Coaching MasteryGrab your free issue of choice Magazine here - https://choice-online.com/In this episode, I talk with the trio about their article published in our March 2023 issue.
In this interview, we talk with co-authors, co-creators, co-supervisors, co-coaches and co-friends Kerry Woodcock, Larissa Thurlow, and Sherry Matheson about their article " Reflecting on Reflection ~ The journey to coaching maturity."We recognize and honor that as coaches, we are all at different levels of maturity. Reflecting in and on our practice, where do we consciously and unconsciously enable or inhibit our development and journey to coaching mastery? The journey to maturity invites you to step into a review of your path so far, stand still long enough to notice where you are now, and look towards what lies ahead for you, both as a coach and as a human being. In this podcast, we will discuss the three practices of reflection, Pre-flective, Reflexive and Reflective, the metaphors associated with those practices and how we can apply them to our coaching practices.  Kerry Woodcock, Larissa Thurlow and Sherry Matheson have had the privilege of working and playing together in a range of roles and combinations over many years, as co-coaches, colleagues, co-leads, co-supervisors, co-authors and friends. In 2021, they leaned into their courage and commitment to form a powerful, pioneering, co-creative trio to develop and co-lead a Team Coaching Supervision Training Program delivered through Novalda. Weaving together lightness and depth, championing and challenge, with a dash of irreverence, they often joke that they are two parts sparkle and one part grass stains – no parts assigned! The trio are all certified Supervisors with Larissa holding an ESIA (EMCC Global Supervision Individual Award) with Sherry and Kerry to follow later this year.Join us as we learn more about the practice of reflection.Watch the full interview by clicking here.Find the full article here: bit.ly/WoodcockThurlowandMathesonLearn more about Kerry, Larissa, and Sherry on their website Novalda.com. In this interview, we talk with Lisa Ong about her article, Changing the Lens ~ How coaching with an inclusive equity lens accelerates cultures of belonging. As organizations increasingly see the importance of embedding diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging into their policies and culture, more leaders are focusing on how to incorporate those ideas. Coaching is a great skillset for promoting cultures of inclusion and belonging because when you look at the traits for inclusive leaders, giving and getting feedback are two of them.  Being curious and listening. Being open-minded, all of those things and skills that coaches are trained for fit right into DEI&B.  Companies recognized for their DEI work make an effort to embed DEIB into everything they do. In this interview, we talk with Julian Humphreys about his article, Let Down ~ Coaching teams through disappointment.Disappointment is often a visceral experience that can feel like the wind has been taken out of your sails, and it can have a long-term impact on the motivation, trust and commitment of a team. Team coaches have an important role to play in helping teams process their disappointment so it doesn't get in the way of setting and meeting future expectations that propel the team forward. Team coaches need to check in with teams about the attributions they make, so the causes of behaviors that are experienced as disappointing can be more accurately understood and addressed.Team coaches need to be brought in early so disappointment can be addressed proactively, before it becomes chronic. Team coaches also need to be aware of their own feelings of disappointment, understanding the expectations that are put on them, and that they put on themselves. To avoid unnecessary disappointment, coaches need to ask themselvesthe same questions team members do – are the expectations explicit, are they reasonable, and are the attributions made when expectations are not met accurate enough?Julian is a Global Executive and Team Coach, helping senior leaders around the world take their careers to the next level by developing critical thinking, strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, social intelligence, mindfulness, authenticity and integrity.  He is an ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC), the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the international coaching journal Philosophy of Coaching, and the developer and instructor for the advanced-level ICF-accredited courses Psychology for Coaches, Philosophy for Coaches and Level 3 Mastery.Join us as we learn more from Julian about what he has found to be effective in coaching disappointment - in individuals and teams? In this interview, we talk with Elaine Taylor-Klaus about her article A Brave New World ~ Neurodiversity inclusion in coach training. The brain does not discriminate; neurodiversity is a universal human phenomenon that crosses all racial, ethnic, gender, socioeconomic and/or religious boundaries. Neurodiversity-inclusion in coaching invites coaches to dance with the brain’s role in a client’s self-concept and execution of behaviors. To meet all clients where they are, coach training must include information about how people process information differently so coaches can:• help clients recognize and embrace neurodiversity;• ethically assess whether they feel equipped to support neurodiverse clients;• determine when to refer or collaborate with coaches and/or therapists with neurodiversity expertise.Author, parent educator & certified coach, Elaine is the CEO of ImpactParents.com, founded in 2011 because the support she needed as a parent wasn’t there when her three complex kids were young.
