Description

Be inspired by conversations in radical thinking from leaders who are doing the unfeasible every day.

In the next 30 years, if we want to survive on this planet, pretty much everything must change about the way we organise our societies; and this will require a huge shift in the cultural stories we tell and defend; it will require all of us to do things which might currently seem undoable; and it will need revolutions in each of our minds. Host David Aula, meets people in business, law, politics, the arts and elsewhere who are today's Unfeasible Thinkers and Do-ers.

Kyle is Partnerships and Product Manager at B-Lab UK - the certification body for all B-Corps registered in this Sceptred Isle.  Noticed the little B in a circle on the packaging of some of your favourite ethical products? Or been following this movement for some time? Can business be a force for good? B-Lab says a resounding yes and has created an Impact Assessment Tool with serious teeth.  Links  Find me on twitter @davidaula LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-aula-750b68227/ Insta: @unfeasigram Find Kyle:  Twitter - @kylesoo LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kylesoo/ Linktr.ee/kylesoo B-Lab UK - https://bcorporation.uk/about-b-lab-uk/ Lego Serious Play - https://seriousplay.training/lego-serious-play/ PechaKucha - https://www.pechakucha.com/ BrewDog - https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0013yfj/disclosure-series-4-the-truth-about-brewdog https://greenermatters.com/sustainable-business/what-can-b-corp-learn-from-the-brewdog-debacle/ https://bcorporation.uk/complaints-about-uk-b-corps/ Atomic Habits - https://jamesclear.com/atomic-habits www.unfeasible.world www.pronkproductions.com
People should be having friendly competition over who can make the tastiest dishes and throw the best party, not over who can be the most ethical or most sustainable. We can’t be sustainable on our own, for that we need collaboration. It’s also more fun. Listen to this episode if you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by the enormity of the task we face this century - as if changing the world and saving the species is your sole responsibility! Judy Wicks wisely explains how the very best thing you can do is make a difference LOCALLY. Because you really really really can make a difference locally… and when we combine that with a network connecting local living economies from other places, then the world changes pretty fast. Judy Wicks has been working for over 50 years to make her neighbourhood - and neighbourhoods around the world - better for everyone and better for nature. If you haven’t heard of her, you’ve almost definitely heard of the projects she has been involved with. She was an early pioneer of ‘farm fresh’ food in restaurants - believe it or not, that was a rarity when she started out. She hosted the signing of the declaration of Interdependence which effectively launched the B-Corp movement. She is currently campaigning hard to keep corporate interests out of the legalisation of marijuana, so that local farmers and the communities that have been disproportionately harmed by the war on drugs, can get a share of the $3 Billion industry that is emerging. And, if that's not enough, she was also the founding partner of the business which is now known as Urban Outfitters.  COMMENTS WELCOME  Twitter @davidaula  Instagram @unfeasigram  LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-aula-750b68227/  Links  Get 'Good Morning Beautiful Business' from Judy's website - http://judywicks.com/book All Together Now PA - https://alltogethernowpa.org/ Pot Profits for Pennsylvanians - https://alltogethernowpa.org/p3/ The Circle of Aunts and Uncles - http://www.circleofauntsanduncles.com/ Proud Pennsylvania - https://www.proudpennsylvania.org/ Teal - https://www.reinventingorganizations.com/ Today Bread in Walthamstow - https://www.todaybread.com/ https://www.instagram.com/today_bread/ Martin Luther King's Beloved Community - https://www.huffpost.com/entry/the-beloved-community-dr-_b_4583249 Hopi Elders' Prophecy - "We are the ones we've been waiting for" - https://artistic.umn.edu/we-are-ones-weve-been-waiting-prophecy-made-hopi-elders Unfeasible’s website - https://www.unfeasible.world/  Pronk’s Website - https://pronkproductions.com/podcast-production/
‘How can coaching change the world?’ And ‘How did you first discover coaching?’ are two questions with the same answer for Simon Crowe. Many of the episodes so far have discussed the importance of support if you’re attempting any endeavour of great consequence. Today, David speaks with his own coach and mentor about how that support, int he form of a professional coaching relationship, can turbo charge your ability to make change around you. For 16 years Simon has been developing his skills as a master coach. He shares his conviction that the coaching approach can unlock incredible potential in individuals, and through those individuals effect large collective change. And he delves into that process and the difficult work of just being able to ‘see’ what is already there. A coach is sometimes there to simply point our that ‘the peanut butter is in the cupboard’. Freedom and Responsibility go hand in hand.  In this episode, Andy Brogan makes a spirited case for how we must create the greatest freedoms for ourselves by taking our individual responsibility seriously. If we don’t, he says, we risk making drones out of one another. Listening to Andy speak will provide valuable insight into how you see yourself within the constraints of a system, but find the courage to act anyway. He helpfully refocuses morality away from stringent judgements of ‘right and wrong’ and refocusses us with the more useful question: is it kind? As the co-founder of Easier Inc and one of the leaders of the Next Stage Radicals, Andy has a welcome ability to challenge the underlying assumptions of how we think and act in the world whilst always treating us kindly. Discover Andy’s insights from twenty years of working in systems change, and discover how change can actually happen person to person in the time it takes to have a five-minute conversation. Building unfeasible worlds is not a theoretical endeavour, but happens at the level of ‘the problem’ When we look clearly at our problems and get honest about what’s causing those problems, the paradigms can shift without ever needing to refer to a paradigm at all.  COMMENTS WELCOME Twitter @davidaula Instagram @unfeasigram LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-aula-750b68227/ Links Lots of them this week.  Teal - https://www.reinventingorganizations.com/  Easier Inc. - https://www.easierinc.com/  Next Stage Radicals - https://www.nextstageradicals.net/  10 year plan - Do Stuff - https://tommccallum.com/2020/10/19/the-perfect-10-year-plan/  Mark Cannon - ‘The System Takes Care as a Given’ - https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-cannon-6a0b0121/?originalSubdomain=uk  Squire to the Giants blog - https://squiretothegiants.com/  Fred Laloux discussing Decathlon - https://reimaginaire.medium.com/a-conversation-with-frederic-laloux-5fef1e4b64fe  The West Wing, President Bartlett discusses Tender Ships with God, 0.58 - https://youtu.be/dVgK5HKj3P4  ikigai - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ikigai  Nash’s Equilibrium - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nash_equilibrium  A Beautiful Mind - https://youtu.be/Yvhp-3Rma80  Joeri Torfs - https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/joeri-torfs-beyond-institutions-creating-a-world/id1507625333?i=1000537204707  Next Stage Radicals Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/next-stage-radicals/id1507625333  www.unfeasible.world   Pronk Productions - https://pronkproductions.com/podcast-production/
David speaks with two founders of Teal organisations in the UK: Annie was a co-founder of Neighbourhood Midwives and Helen of Wellbeing Teams.  As we continue to explore what it takes to build our Unfeasible world, it's striking that Annie and Helen appear on the podcast together as firm friends: two women working in related but separate fields supporting one another to do things differently. Empathic support once again proving foundational. We talk about how the very systems that are supposed to be there to care for us in the UK, can conspire to block us from the very best examples of that care. Not because it's more expensive (in fact considerably less expensive), not because it's unsafe (in fact considerably more safe), but simply because the old system doesn't have the capacity to recognise things working differently.  We discuss success and failure and again contemplate the true costs of being a pioneer.  Listener, this episode may make you angry. May make you want to smash the old system. May make you want to pull your hair out in despair at how wrong-headed the reality of our current world can be.  We hope you can turn that frustration to action, to find the courage and compassion to bring life to the new ways and take on the lessons Annie and Helen are able to share with us.  COMMENTS WELCOME Twitter @davidaula Instagram @unfeasigram LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-aula-750b68227/ Links  Teal - https://www.reinventingorganizations.com/  Neighbourhood Midwives no longer exists but still provide a directory of private midwives if you'd like to explore working with one of the former Teal midwives- https://www.neighbourhoodmidwives.org.uk/midwife-directory/  Wellbeing Teams https://wellbeingteams.org/the-model/  Yanis Varoufakis - Adults in the Room - https://www.yanisvaroufakis.eu/books/adults-in-the-room/  Annie's work to bring the Joy of Panto to your home, with her partner Peter Duncan - https://www.pantoonline.co.uk/  Helen's podcast - A Cup of teal - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/a-cup-of-teal-with-helen-sanderson/id1476437378  Unfeasible Website - www.unfeasible.world  Pronk Productions - https://pronkproductions.com/podcast-production/ If you're here looking for better care whilst pregnant... How do you feel about conflict? Love to avoid it? Or do you like some robust debate, maybe getting a bit carried away from time to time? By the end of this podcast - we'll be amazed if Dominic hasn't shifted your perspective one way or the other. Dominic Barter is something of a household name in Brazil, known for fearlessly pursuing peaceful approaches to conflict, notably in the Favellas but also in prisons, schools and the high courts. He also consults internationally, wherever Peace is under threat.  His background, like our host, David Aula, is in the theatre and his perspective on the 'risk' involved in loving relationships draws a direct comparison with the risks we take when engage in a piece of dramatic art.  Dominic shares multiple insights into diverse topics including: the genius of the local financial co-responsibility community going missing And above all he makes a hugely compelling case for putting Empathic Support at the centre of activism of any kind.  If you have ever wanted to change anything in your life (and who hasn't!?) you need to listen to this episode.  The recording says pod@unfeasible.world, but for now please contact david@unfeasible.world if you'd like to talk to us.   COMMENTS WELCOME Twitter @davidaula Instagram @unfeasigram LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-aula-750b68227/ Links   Dominic's collective - Restorative Circles - https://www.restorativecircles.org/  Teal - https://www.reinventingorganizations.com/  Ken Wilber's Quadrants https://integrallife.com/four-quadrants/  Our website: https://www.unfeasible.world  Pronk Productions' website: https://pronkproductions.com/podcast-production/
If we want to change the game, we have to start looking at the rules.  The rule of law has developed in our society with the express purpose of producing Justice: but how often is it actually doing that?  And has our conception of what is 'Just' evolved since many of our laws came to pass?  Furthermore, how do most of us see the role of lawyer? We imagine, at best, a stressed but driven warrior tackling the bad guys and winning the good fight with her superior wit, indefatigable commitment and luck on her side. At worst, the image of a manipulator, disengaged from the human impact of their work, motivated only by money and the thrill of the game.  Kim and her colleagues are writing a new script and reinventing the character of the lawyer. The lawyer in the Integrative movement becomes a facilitator for peace, restoration and repair: they essentially help people to make agreements despite massive apparent conflict.  How did a small-town lawyer and mother of 16 children, become a leader in a global movement? And how did she deliver excellent results for the people she worked with? And how did she capture the attention of Oprah, only to be inundated with requests she could not field? J. Kim Wright gives an extraordinary account of her work to build a movement that still might not be as visible as Oprah, but is now robust enough to reach the growing demand for equitable restorative justice all across our world.  If you'd like to build your own unfeasible world, talk to us.  david@unfeasible.world COMMENTS WELCOME Twitter @davidaula Instagram @unfeasigram LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-aula-750b68227/ Links J.
