ZED RUN Gambling Podcast

DanShan is back and the world of Zed Run lending has arrived whether we’re ready or not. For current Zed Run stable owners the way to lend horses is simple. You stake 250 Zed tokens on the lending market to receive a permit. Then with the permit you can add horse to the market. If someone chooses to borrow it a four day contract will be initiated then you’ll split the winning while they have it. Pretty simple stuff but we go into pretty deep detail of the ramifications for the game going forward. We plan on lending out to each other soon to see how it all works and tank each other’s donkeys to oblivion. The Strategy Behind Z268s  We also get some great breeding insight for the Z268 tourneys. DanShan really knows his stuff and I can’t wait to try his system out for myself. Definitely worth trying considering the cost to breed them.  Thoughts On 6 Horse Races  Six horses races have now been rolled out in an experiment and boy are they fun. Although there are concerns in regards to data analytics I think that’s an easy fix and it only creates more fun. Very encouraging to see and the fact they fill up so quick will only increase user involvement. On Episode 2 we discussed how to buy a horse, but things change quickly in the Zed Run landscape so we wanted to make sure to clarify a few things. As more tools become available and easier to use there's never been a better time to make informed decisions when buying a Zed Run horse. Speed Kills As Blake said, “fast horses breed fast horses.” At the end of the day the more speed you have in the stable the more things you can do with it. Remember you want your breeding pairs to have matching distance preferences so keep that in mind when building your stable early on. Matching those distance preferences with similar high-speed horses in the same distance goes a long way toward building confidence in how you build your stable from within. Like most things, research is a major key. The more research you do, the easier it becomes to spot advantages and excellent pairings. Things To Look For When evaluating speed you ideally want to find horses that flash elite numbers in more than one distance. If you have two horses that flash hard at 1200m and 1400m they probably make a good breeding pair. If they have a matching tank distance even bigger bonus. One thing we've honed in on lately is finding those pairs with matching DP and tank distance preferences. With things ever changing in Zed Run, this seems to be a combo that has held strong in breeding 2.0. Market Changes A couple of months ago you could pretty much only buy horses on OpenSea. Now Hawku and others have stepped up as viable alternative markets. To be able to buy and sell on Hawkuyou'll need to purchase a very small amount of the MATIC token to bridge the transactions. Also, make sure you check if a male is in the stud barn before you buy! So as we’ve learned more about Zed Run breeding 2.0, it seems like not only is base ability and distance preference passed down, but variance most definitely is too. I’ve seen this firsthand with a new breed I just did Melrose Avenue. Definitely was able to get her mother’s high variance to go with her father’s distance preference. That goes a long way towards helping improve the line a little. Now going forward it doesn’t appear breeding lotto tickets will really hit like they used to. I could definitely see them tweaking the variance in new horses going forward for a breeding 3.0 update, though. I get they don’t want variance luck to be the only way to build a stable but there needs to be a balance with skill and some luck sprinkled in. Perhaps the biggest nugget to drop was it seems progression is on the way. Horses will essentially have their power score and a potential score and it will take the best horse management to get the most out of it. This is a great development and gives me hope that a Zed Run version of Seabiscuit is out there. A perceived donkey that can thrive in the right hands. Can’t wait to see how this works out going forward. This could lead to an entirely new strategy for both breeding and racing. Six horse races are now being experimented with a week after the screenshot was shared showing head-to-head racing. This is, hopefully, all leading to customizable private races where smaller communities can compete among each other without fear of getting killed by the bigger stables. If small stables only exist to kick up cash to the bigger ones the game is in trouble. In a perfect world, though, this is all laying the groundwork for that type of expansion. Becca from Zed Run is doing some class system user feedback sessions so I’m guessing the changes there are coming soon. The game still has Its kinks to work out but, at end of the day, it’s still in beta testing and will take some work in the short term to achieve its full potential. After a week of studying (and some wild highs and lows) I was able to go over the Zed Token white paper and figure a few things out. Good thing BG was available to come on and help clarify things about the air drop and the future of the token going forward. The distribution still hasn’t quite been completely figured out but as BG says in the episode he’s figured out about 70% of it. The tier system still leaves a lot of questions there but since that was the only air drop it’s probably best to focus on coin distribution going forward. Ideally they’ll give us ways to spend it before they begin rewarding it to help keep the supply and demand in check.   However the token is available to buy and trade on a couple of exchanges such as SushiSwap and MEXC. Be careful as you would with any crypto investment but if you’re looking to stockpile before the game switches over to the coin you can find it to purchase there.   Now the big token related news this week was the announcement that lending is coming any day now. This has the potential to give a lot of horses value and onboard new players with minimum risk. It appears as if you’ll stake tokens for a lending permit then enter the lending market. Any profits made by the horses will be split between lender and borrower. No word as of writing this if the number of permits will be capped at a certain number or if they’ll be given out each month in a lottery type system.   There was also a very interesting screenshot posted by Zed creative director and co-founder Chris Ebeling on twitter. He showed a shot if two horses running down a two lane track in what we can only hope means head to head racing is coming soon. There’s been a serious problem with the competitive balance in the game and something like this will give every horse a chance to win a little by making the matchups as even as possible. This is the kind of thing that can lead to party mode and other ways casual players can enjoy the game without getting beat up by the top 1% of players.   BG also shares with us his plans for zandyland.run which will be coming soon and should be a major player in third party tournaments and other contests. It’s really cool seeing so many developers working hard to give horses a value outside the main game. It would be nice if Zed followed the communities lead more often and figured out ways to give even the worst horses a chance to win something. Obviously they’re not running a charity here but stable and player numbers are going down for a reason and lack of ways to win a little money is one of them. Well the big day finally came! Zed Token is here and so far it’s been a wild ride. On Thursday morning stable owners awoke to their wallets having a nice surprise in the form of Zed Tokens. Based upon a June 1st 2022 snapshot Zed stable owners were rewarded based on horse ownership, number of paid/free races completed, number of horses bred with your mares, number of studs entered into barn, skin ownership and more. So depending on your ownership and activity you were allotted so much based on what tier activity level you fell in. 34.7% of the tokens have been set aside for this play and earn feature so more is coming down the line. As of this writing the coin has been as high as $0.1934 per coin with several stables being rewarded thousands of coins so it’s definitely triggered some major buying and selling. Zed Token tournaments (courtesy of our dude DanShan) and poker games have immediately popped up with the community wasting no time to find utility for the coin. With Zed just launching the token and not announcing the uses for it in game yet it seems there’s a lot of potential here. Everyone in Zed knows how fatigue can negatively impact our horses. If you run them too much they won’t perform until the stamina meter goes back up. Well, we as humans are the same and it’s important to keep that perspective. Avoiding burnout and exhaustion is important to having a fun experience with whatever you do whether it’s Zed Run, fantasy football, or golf. Okay, those are the only things I do. But doing these things in balance is important so we decided to take an episode to make sure we’re not going to flame out like Dick Vermeil. Sure we talk about the new tourney tracker and some other Zed things but this was a great time to confront the fact that it’s okay to step away from the game occasionally and it won’t hurt. Back in the saddle again this week with our guy DanShan and it’s a beauty. Since he was last on, we’ve come a long way with our analytics and we got another lesson in peak performance this time as well. DanShan has scrapped his old StackedNaks and replaced it with ZLead. I’m a huge fan of the new site and love what he’s done with it. ZLead has all the analytical data and charts we loved on StackedNaks but also provides a lot of stuff sites like Know Your Horses and Hawku have. It really is an all in one comprehensive tool that has pretty much everything you need. The Speed Chute is a simple chart that really helps you figure out where your top speeds are coming from. Plus the site is a great tool for finding horses on the open market complete with purchase links on Hawku. Definitely check it out and of course DanShan is always available on twitter (@Spotonparts) to answer any questions via DM. Easily one of the coolest guys in the world of Zed we love having him on and he’ll definitely be back soon. We also discussed the new Top Six paid races and agree that they are really something the game sorely needed. Now they’re not true double-ups it would be great to see that next but it’s a solid start. On a $2.50 Top Six the payouts can vary with the price of ETH so in a recent one I ran the prize pool was $26.31. Payouts were: 1st-$8.42 2nd-$5.78 3rd-$4.21 4th-6th-$2.63. For this particular race the entry fee was $2.19 at time of writing this since the price of ETH has gone down from when the race occurred. We came to a consensus that these races are extremely valuable because as he said it “I either win $.50 or get to downclass at the worst.” That sums it up perfectly and these races just made more horses out there worth running in paid races. Good move by Zed and I hope to see more of these type of things. The C5/6 $1 races are alright but these have already provided me with hours of entertainment and caused me to reevaluate everything to make sure I’m running the right horses in these. We’re back again and even though we haven’t reached ten episodes we already have our first success story. That’s right our baseball editor here at SGPN Blake Meyer got into Zed when we started doing the show and has since built up an impressive stable with solid success. He’s an absolute maniac pounding dozens of races a day and showing some damn good results lately. Check out his progress in the SGPN Slack Channel with daily reports. Seems like he’s always winning at least 15% of his races and 100% blames us for getting involved like this. A big factor in his success has been focusing on speed. I kind of scoffed at race times for a while. It seemed like there wasn’t much of a gap in times from class to class. But using them to establish kilometers per hour and then comparing those top speeds to the median seems to have some serious value. Especially looking at fastest in last 90 days. That keeps you fresh and always with what’s currently happening in the game. Changes in Zed happen so frequently and it looks like more are on the way so it’s good to stay in the moment in your evaluations. To quote our own Ryan “Real Money” Kramer “there’s a reason why the windshield is bigger than the rear view.” It’s so amazing to see Blake grow with the show and lap us in terms of picking and managing winners. It shows that with the right approach and trusting the data you can get it going in the right direction quicker than later. I’m excited to see where he’s at in a few months with his stable and evaluations. Look no one likes losing. For those of us with a competitive streak, the idea of it is revolting. But in Zed Run, the ability to take some losses to stay in your winning range is a must. Not everyone has the firepower to hang in the higher classes. The worst thing that can happen is getting a horse stuck in C1 that you can’t get back down to a competitive level. You have a good horse that can’t win. I have one of those and it’s very frustrating. But what we’re going for here is using the data we have to put ourselves in the class we can be most competitive. Now if you have a horse that’s in discovery it’s easy to find a weaker distance and pound that in hopes of being assigned a lower class out the gate. But not everyone will have that opportunity so my advice is to go to stackednaks.com or mjinformatics.com and learn to dial in where you’re more likely to finish in the 8-12th range. When you find a horse that has a distance preference for winning odds are they have one for losing too. Look around at some of the top stables and how they run their horses. You’ll see them hit the podium followed by bottom three finishes pretty regularly. Let’s not kid ourselves a 25% winner is incredible and extremely rare. They're still not winning 75% of the time. Let's understand that and try to use those losses to our advantage. By continuing to monitor your results and making the proper adjustments to the data you can get there much easier than entering races blindly. Zed Bulletin: New features continue to be rolled out and the quick entry might be my favorite to date. Instead of guessing where others are entering you just have to be one of the first twelve to enter. Well done they must be listening to the show...On the other hand, the Z11-100 tournament was something of a disaster. Way too big a range there. Asking Z75s to compete with Z12s is just ridiculous. I'm all for specialized tourneys that get more people involved but let's be realistic about the competition in these fields...The Budweiser sponsorship seems to be turning some heads and getting noticed in the mainstream community. His stream with partner Sean on Twitch was the first one in the Zed Run space to offer parimutuel odds and gives a real glimpse into the future potential of the game. I met him at the first live Zed event I attended here in Las Vegas for the Kentucky Derby and loved the backstory and what these guys have already been able to accomplish in this space. Hopefully, the red tape and all the legal stuff get worked out and we’re all able to download his Zed Bets app one day so we can place irresponsibly large wager on our horses. It’s people like Tomi with their creative spirit and ingenuity that truly make Zed Run an exciting place to be. Zed Bulletin: With the recent uncertainty in the cryptocurrency market at large Zed announced on their blog that they’re moving 80% of the WETH supply into USDC to stabilize the game a little and ensure the payouts keep coming…the Belmont Stakes event at StarbaseLV was a great way to close out the Hybrid Triple Crown Series. GVG Genetics took down the big prize for the stables competing and there were even a couple hours of an open bar! In the world of Zed Run breeding makes up a huge portion of the game. With the game constantly evolving and the new conditional tournaments, being able to cheaply breed a horse on your own to compete in these events will only become more valuable. Now it isn’t cheap and I’m not about to pretend to have this part of the game dialed in yet but it is fun to smash horses together and see what you get! Hopefully, we can run through the basics for you here and give you some insight into the process. When you open the breeding tab it will ask you to select a horse. If you own the male it will be placed in the stud barn where others can pay you a fee or you can breed between horses in your stable (I don’t recommend this. It’s cheaper to set up a second wallet address and stable and do it that way.) Now with your female, you’ll either select your male in the stud barn. If you're looking for something specific you can use the filters to find your stallion of choice. After you select your mate you’ll see the procreating screen then bam you will have your new horse. Now only two genesis can breed a legendary and only two crosses can make a pacer. Depending on how you arrange the breeding pairs the chart goes as follows: Genesis-Legendary-Exclusive-Elite-Cross-Pacer Now to me personally the major benefit of breeding IF you have the proper pieces is being able to potentially get a great racer at a discount. The problem is you may have to try it a couple of times with the same pair to get that big winner or find out you have a couple of bad breeders. It can be expensive. It’s cheaper in my mind right now to buy solid racers on the market for below the breeding costs. They’re out there. Random notes: -Starbase Las Vegas has been having a great series of live Zed events for the Triple Crown races. According to my source, this is going to be a monthly thing going forward. The next one will be the Belmont Stakes on June 11th. If you’re in Vegas that weekend it’s a must-attend event. 12 free horses are given out at each event. -Social media logins are now available for new users. Great news for expanding the game and getting new users in. People will also be able to rent a horse for an hour to try it out before making their first purchase. I get the feeling we’re going to see a ton of new stables soon. -Conditional tournaments are finally here! The first Fibonacci Cup Pacers-only tourney went off well and drew a ton of great reviews. Next week will be a Cross only tourney as they work up the breed type ladder. There will be specific tourneys for different Z numbers and bloodlines as well. Huge news for the game as it gives way more value to several existing horses and gives stable owners a reason to breed more. There are many aspects to Zed Run but at its heart it’s a digital horse race game. The fun part of it is racing and always will be. So after you jump through the hoops and buy a horse it’s time to run it! The Zed menu makes it easy to navigate and get going real quick. Let’s take a look at the different types of races they have on there.  When you click on the Racing tab click Events now depending on your horses experience level you’ll either start in a class already or work your way up through the Griffin/Discovery process.  Griffin Race   A Griffin Race is a Zed horses first race. In North American horse racing we call them Maiden Races and same logic applies. In Zed all types of horses that will later be in a variety of classes all compete together in Griffin races.  Discovery Races A Griffin Race is the first leg of the Discovery process. There’s been recent changes to it but basically you compete in ten races to earn a score and get your class assignment. This is a great time to experiment with different distances.  Paid Races The name explains it all. You pay a fee to get in and then the prize pool is split between win, place, and show (1st/2nd/3rd). Prize pool is split 60/25/15. Zed used to take a small rake but now it’s split evenly down the line. Races are based on US dollar amount but in wrapped ethereum.  Free Tourneys Free races are apart of a daily tournament structure. Click on tournament rules to get scoring details for each format.  You need to race at least five races in a specific distance funnel to qualify in a tournament quarterfinal.  Races from all funnels will count towards your score but you can only qualify in one funnel per tournament. Free races will count towards your stats and class standing but you only get paid upon reaching the quarterfinals and finishing in top three there no matter the format.  Third Party Tournaments There are several people offering third party Zed Run tournaments now. I think some of the stuff that DanShan and Zombie Racing are doing is particularly interesting. Both are doing their best to create an environment where more horses can be profitable. Even deadbeat trash donkeys! DanShan has double ups which I especially like. Since the days of kings racehorse ownership has signified a status symbol among the elite. Well thanks to Zed Run us common peasants can get in on the action and feel like nobility. With this simple step by step guide you’ll be able to buy your horse and get your stable going in no time.     Step 1. Set up MetaMask wallet Easy to find app that will serve as your main tool for logging in and out of Zed Run and sites like Hawku and OpenSea where you’ll actually be purchasing the horses.  Step 2. Add ethereum to wallet There are several ways to purchase ethereum including directly on MetaMask.  I suggest you find an exchange that you feel comfortable with that has Lowe fees and transfer to MetaMask.   Step 3. Set up Zed run account  In your MetaMask browser go to zed.run. Click start. Your wallet should sync right up and now you have a stable! Don’t forget to think of a name and make a logo! Step 4. Bridge ethereum to polygon  For opensea: In Zed wallet bridge ethereum to polygon network In MetaMask settings go to networks  Find add network and add polygon with info provided  Wrapped eth won’t show up right in MetaMask but will in opensea  For Hawku: In zed wallet bridge ethereum to polygon  Purchase small amount of  MATIC Step 5. Find your horse Use filters on knowyourhorses and hawku to find what you want Step 6. Buy horse on opensea/hawku You can pay the current asking price on several and get them right away or try putting a bid in and see if they accept.  Step 7. Race your horse Switch back to ethereum main network  Go to Zed run How to Transfer horses Step 1. Copy wallet address in zed Step 2. Go to other stable Step 3. Click settings  Step 4. Transfer will be first thing  Step 5. Click transfer Step 6. Paste address. It will show the stable you’re transferring to. Double check and confirm.  Step 7. Wait a few minutes.
