Eating disorders can affect everyone – not just the thin. Our society encourages overconsumption. Yet we also demand thinness, willpower and self-control. We seem incapable of believing that being overweight is anything but a result of greed and that it’s simply evidence of weakness or laziness. This creates the belief that bingeing is a ‘failure’. Bingeing is a fundamentally misunderstood act, yet newsflash: binge eating disorder (BED) is also the most common type of eating disorder. Binge eating disorder controlled Lyndi's life for 10 years. During this time, she felt like food controlled her. She was always trying to lose weight. She didn’t want to binge eat but she didn’t know how to stop binge eating. We have chatted on the podcast about many people. But now it's time for Lyndi's story.  If you struggle with binge and emotional eating, please try Lyndi's FREE 5-day course. In the weeks since Lyndi has released her new book Your Weight Is Not The Problem, she heard from multiple (ex) Weight Watchers customers that after posting a photo of the book in the WW Connect forum, it was almost immediately deleted by admins...Seems like WW knows she might be onto something and that’s got them worried. And so they should be. The evidence is clear and people are starting to listen. Not only do diets not work, they overwhelmingly do more harm than good. And with all this talk of WW..the ears of No Wellness Wankery were engaged. Both Lyndi and Jenna have been through the school of Weight Watchers and have come out with the scars to prove it. Looking at foods and having their 'points value' etched into your brain, bingeing on 'free' foods or the dread of a public weigh-in.  Lyndi put the call out on her Instagram for her lovely followers to write in with their tales of WW and the response was overwhelming. So we knew we needed to dive in.This episode is a space free from diet judgement or 'failure'. A place for you to know that you haven't failed Weight Watchers, it has probably failed you. Note: For legal reasons, the following episode is based on personal experiences. To kick off 2023, we have decided to mix up the format of No Wellness Wankery.  And we are outrageously pleased to introduce our first guest to the podcast, Turia Pitt.Over ten years ago - At age 24, Turia Pitt's life was drastically changed. She was competing in a 100km ultra marathon in the Australian outback, she encountered an out of control grassfire. Turia was trapped by the flames, and suffered burns to 65% of her body. She survived against the overwhelming odds, undergoing over 200 medical procedures and has gone on to rebuild an extraordinary life. She has written three best-selling books, given birth to 2 babies, has coached thousands of people to lead happier lives through the Run with Turia program, which Lyndi has personally done. Lyndi asks Turia about how she ensures greatness is squeezed into everyday, how she uses movement on bad body image days and the simple tricks to ensuring you remain consistent with exercise.Spoiler: It's not about enlisting the help of an even scarier person to yell at you at the gym to do one more rep....Oh and if you’ve EVER thought about learning how to run... if you like the idea of being a runner but worry that you don’t have time or don’t look like a runner or can’t even jog for 50m without getting puffed out... then you’ve gotta check out Turia Pitt's Run with Turia program. You’ll have the best running coach in Turia Pitt, who I reckon is the real, deal. Her advice is doable, realistic (and totally free from wellness wankery) even if you’re a busy mum or human. Did you see I was recently on Turia's insanely wonderful podcast?
