Just because products and treatments are marketed towards women of color does not make them automatically safe for skin of color. Unfortunately, choosing the wrong treatment for melanated skin can have damaging consequences, as more melanated skin is prone to hyperpigmentation or uneven increased pigmentation. So what are some aesthetic skin treatments that are safe and beneficial for melanated skin? The Skin Report is a podcast created to educate listeners on methods to improve skin health for people of all ethnicities and ages. This week our host Dr. Sethi concludes her September series on the beauty industry and how it approaches skincare for people of color. In this episode, she explains the science behind melanated skincare and why it is important to choose the right products, regimens, and procedures for non caucasian skin types. Unfortunately, the lack of research on skin of color has resulted in less outreach from the aesthetic treatments industry toward people of color. However, Dr. Sethi provides information on several safe medical-grade treatments for melanated skin.Follow and DM a question for Dr. Sethi to answer on The Skin Report Podcast: RenewMDBeauty Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/renewmd_beauty/RenewMD Beauty Medical Spas, California:https://renewmdwellness.com/
As discussed in prior episodes, the skincare industry has not appropriately addressed the skin concerns of all races and often excludes people of color from skin care studies. Unfortunately, the industry’s inherent racism has caused various consequences for people of color regarding their skincare products and the knowledge of how skin conditions affect these individuals differently. The Skin Report is a podcast created to educate listeners on methods to improve skin health for people of all ethnicities and ages. On this episode, host Dr. Sethi continues her discussion on the skincare industry and how it approaches skin products and care methods for people of color. While many products and techniques exist to treat skin conditions in individuals with lighter skin tones, people of color receive fewer resources for appropriately treating their skin concerns. This episode covers the common skin issues faced by people of color, including dyschromia, atopic dermatitis, and adult acne. Furthermore, Dr. Sethi explains how to treat these conditions in ways that are safe for melanated skin.Follow and DM a question for Dr. Sethi to answer on The Skin Report Podcast: RenewMDBeauty Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/renewmd_beauty/RenewMD Beauty Medical Spas, California:https://renewmdwellness.com/
The beauty industry is a vast market, generating billions of dollars yearly from customers worldwide. The skincare industry is a large part of this, so why is it so difficult for people of color to find skincare products formulated for their skin needs? Unfortunately, the strong presence of racism, colorism, and euro-centric beauty standards in the beauty industry has led to the skin care industry’s active exclusion of people of color. The Skin Report is a podcast created to educate listeners on methods to improve skin health for people of all ethnicities and ages. On this episode, host Dr. Sethi discusses the skincare industry: what’s wrong with it, why, and how it can be improved. While there is much demand for skin care products aimed toward people of color, not many exist on the market today. We will discuss why this is, covering topics including the lack of research on darker skin tones, the lack of diversity within the skincare industry itself, and the lack of consideration for melanated skin when developing skincare products. Tune in to this episode to learn more about the skin care industry’s problems with inclusivity and how they can improve this by formulating effective and safe products for people of color.Follow and DM a question for Dr. Sethi to answer on The Skin Report Podcast: RenewMDBeauty Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/renewmd_beauty/RenewMD Beauty Medical Spas, California:https://renewmdwellness.com/
